St Peter’s is a small, friendly, church school, steeped in the rich history of Wapping and the London Docks area. We are a good school and are committed to improving further, with a clear focus on maximising the achievement of each member of our rich and diverse community. We

are strongly focused on raising standards through good teaching and learning.

We very much value and appreciate the positive support of our parents and of the wider community and we strive for an open and welcoming environment where we can work in partnership for the benefit of all our pupils.

A ChurchSchool

St Peter’s London Docks is a Church of England school, providing education in a Christian context for children of the parish, who come from a range of Christian and other backgrounds. We seek to instil religious and moral codes which will sustain children throughout their lives and help them become moral and responsible adults.

St. Peter’s School is organically linked to St. Peter’s Parish Church, a link strongly supported by the clergy and the school staff . Every Thursday morning children attend school mass at the Church, as they have done for more than 150 years. Pupils in years 5 and 6 eagerly volunteer to act as servers each week. On all other mornings we hold assemblies which are Christian based and have a high moral and spiritual content.

At St Peter’s we believe in children’s entitlement to a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum.

We have a strong focus on literacy and numeracy as a basis for all learning. The curriculum is tailored to the children’s interests and reflects the multicultural nature of our community. We promote an enjoyment of learning with as many first hand experiences as possible. Educational visits, workshops, visitors and theatre groups extend opportunities for learning and enhance the curriculum.

Establishing a clear picture of how each child learns best is important. Rigorous procedures are in place to identify and meet children’s individual needs. Each child’s progress is carefully monitored so that appropriate action can be taken to help any child who might be struggling with a particular area of learning, to provide the more able with appropriate challenge and help every child to fulfil their potential.

“ The good curriculum ensures that pupils have access to a wide range of extracurricular clubs, trips and visits which add to their enjoyment of school.”Ofsted

Letter from Father T E Jones SSC, Chairman of the Governing Body

“ Under the current headship, St Peter’s has become a quite inspirational place for our children to learn.” Ofsted

St Peter’s is a thriving, happy and challenging school in the heart of Wapping. We are thriving because of church and community traditions, our deep roots in the local community and our welcome for all that is good and new. We are a happy school because our Christian culture leads us to value every child and staff member; at St. Peter’s people matter. We are a challenging school because we always seek out the best in, and for, our children. Our Teaching and support team under the leadership of our exceptional head teacher brings an amazing level of talent, commitment and experience to their work.

The school provides a secure, caring and engaging environment, in which the good, the true and the best are constant and repeated themes; thus we expect, encourage and enable high standards of both achievement and behaviour in the whole school community.

Traditional standards, the best in contemporary education and a culture of faith, nurture and kindness make St Peter’s a unique school offering an education that will enable your child to build for a positive, happy and fulfilled life.

“ God made flowers and children to make this world more beautiful.”

Father Charles Fuge Lowder SSC, founder of St. Peter’s London Docks
