This month has seen Years 1-3 hold their first Parent Workshop. I would like to say a huge thank you to the teachers, who put a lot of me and thought into what informaon would be most useful to you and how they could best share it with you. Thank you to all those Parents who came along to find out more about the Curriculum content, aainment expectaons and key strategies for their children this aca- demic year. Your feedback is very much welcomed. We intend to hold another Workshop on a different aspect of the Curriculum next term. I am delighted to share that our Autumn Term Parents Evening saw 99.2% aendance. We hope to raise that to 100% by the end of next week, with those parents who were unable to make their original appointment finding an alternave, mutually convenient me to see their childs class teacher. This term has seen a marked increase in the number of Aſter School Acvies that we have been able to offer. This has only been possible as a result of the hard work of Mrs Preston and Mrs Lucas, who have co-ordinated everything. Im sure you can imagine that this has been no small or easy task so I extend my appreciaon to them because I know this is something that many of you have welcomed and hope to build on in the future. Please be aware that, as a result of their popularity, most clubs had a waing list of children who had been disappointed in our September allocaon. Those children have been priorised for the places available during the Spring Term. 2P had their special Class Mass with Father Kevin last Friday. The children prepared a beauful liturgy around the theme of people who are special to us.They read brilliantly and contributed so reverently to the Offertory. Father Kevin gave a lovely Homily in which he invited the children to peek inside a set of boxes and describe the special person hidden inside. One of the boxes contained a mirror and the children were able to recognise that they are all special because God loves them. Thank you 2P – it was a genuine pleasure to join you for your Mass. Today we marked the start of Advent with a service in which we lit the first candle on our wreath. This month has seen Years 1-3 hold their first Parent Workshop. I would like to say a huge thank you to

the teachers, who put a lot of time and thought into what information would be most useful to you and

how they could best share it with you. Thank you to all those Parents who came along to find out more

about the Curriculum content, attainment expectations and key strategies for their children this aca-

demic year. Your feedback is very much welcomed. We intend to hold another Workshop on a different

aspect of the Curriculum next term.

I am delighted to share that our Autumn Term Parents Evening saw 99.2% attendance. We hope to raise

that to 100% by the end of next week, with those parents who were unable to make their original

appointment finding an alternative, mutually convenient time to see their child’s class teacher.

This term has seen a marked increase in the number of After School Activities that we have been able to

offer. This has only been possible as a result of the hard work of Mrs Preston and Mrs Lucas, who have

co-ordinated everything. I’m sure you can imagine that this has been no small or easy task so I extend

my appreciation to them because I know this is something that many of you have welcomed and hope

to build on in the future. Please be aware that, as a result of their popularity, most clubs had a waiting

list of children who had been disappointed in our September allocation. Those children have been

prioritised for the places available during the Spring Term.

2P had their special Class Mass with Father Kevin last Friday. The

children prepared a beautiful liturgy around the theme of ‘people

who are special to us.’ They read brilliantly and contributed so

reverently to the Offertory. Father Kevin gave a lovely Homily in

which he invited the children to peek inside a set of boxes and

describe the special person hidden inside. One of the boxes

contained a mirror and the children were able to recognise that they

are all special because God loves them. Thank you 2P – it was a

genuine pleasure to join you for your Mass.

Today we marked the start of Advent with a service in which we lit the first candle on our wreath.

Juliette joined us and helped us to remember that we are preparing for the gift of Jesus

during the season of Advent.

Best wishes,

Miss Wogan

Reception Class News

We have had a busy and fun-filled month learning about dental hygiene. Our topic began with a visitor from a real dentist who helped us to understand how to look after our teeth. We have loved having our role play area as a Dentist Practice and have all experienced taking on different roles. Our ‘Tooth Fairy’ story has inspired us all to create beautiful fairy gardens and we have already had notes

delivered by the fairies to say how much they loved them. With great excitement, the Tooth Fairy visited us all today and rewarded everyone for their hard work with a choco-late coin. We all know that a little bit of chocolate is ok for our teeth as long as we have it with a meal and we remem-ber to brush our teeth afterwards! In RE, our topic has been Prayers Saints and Feasts. We have looked at who can be a follower of Jesus and talked about what makes people a Saint. We also learnt the story of the Wedding Feast of Cana. We know that:

There are different ways of showing love for other people.

Jesus invited men and women to be his disciples and follow him.

We know that Jesus showed that he cared for us with special signs (miracles).

Another successful topic!

We look forward to the final preparations for the Christmas Nativity over the next two weeks. Thank you for all

the costumes we have received. If you haven’t sent your child’s in yet, then please do so by Monday

4th December.

Reception Team

Year 1 News

This half term Year 1 started their exciting new topic ‘Out of Africa,’ based all around the

story of ‘The Leopards Drum.’ The children are really enjoying this topic and have already had

an opportunity to show off their creative skills and get their hands messy by making their

own African drums. We spent some time researching real Djembe African drums and where

they originated from. Then, using our knowledge, we designed our very own, decorating them with different

colours, patterns and shapes. We were amazed by the end results - the children did a super job! In our topic

lessons the children have been using their knowledge of how to make an African drum to write some ‘how to’

instructions containing some very bossy verbs!

In RE we have been focusing on the topic of Prayer, Saints and Feasts in which we have enjoyed discussing some

big questions such as ‘Who makes a good Saint?’

On Friday we are looking forward to celebrating the start of the Advent season. In our classes

we will be making our own Advent wreaths and lighting candles to reflect on the significance of

this time of year.

Year 2 News

Year Two have been really engaged in our new topic

‘Meerkat Madness.’ They have been learning about

different types of mongoose and the habitats in which they

live. The children used their artistic skills to create plans

which they then turned into fantastic information texts!

They have focused on using precise vocabulary to describe and different sentence

openers to engage the reader.

In RE we have been learning about the Rosary Prayer. The children were very excited to make their

own set of Rosary beads using cheerios! We have learnt about the Joyful Mysteries and how to

think about them when we are praying the Rosary.

We are really looking forward to our trip to Marwell Zoo on Friday 15th

December. In preparation for our visit,

the children will be looking at the behaviours of meerkats. We will learn how to record our observations using a

Tally chart so that, during our visit to Marwell, we can carry out a study.

Thank you to all of the Year 2 parents who attended our Parent Workshop and for your continued support,

Year 2 Team

Year 3 News

This half term began with a ‘Wow’ moment as the children arrived at school to find their classroom had turned to tin! They had a magical time exploring and then writing diary entries to document the shock and awe that they felt. Following this, we introduced our topic book ‘The Tin forest,’ where both classes had the opportunity

to re-transform their classrooms into whimsical ‘Tin forests’ (thank you for all your recycling contributions to this). After learning all about the main character in our topic book, and his glum life living in a land filled with junk, we thought about the hope and dreams he may have. Both classes created some incredible ‘dream jars’ with plasti-cine to accompany their powerful, emotive writing.

Currently in Year 3 our focus is on plant life and looking after our planet through recycling. We are so proud of the ideas and care the children have been putting into how we can look after God’s creation. This week, the children had the opportunity to become scientists and understand the life cycle and needs of a plant. After this they had the chance to plant their own flowers ready to be added to our wonderful grounds. As a year group we are currently creating our new recycling scheme ‘St. Peter’s do recycling!’ We will be ready to introduce this to the rest of the school in the new year. Year 3 had a visit from the ladies at Bournemouth Borough Council who taught them all about how to recycle and the consequences of not being conscious of where we put our rubbish – something they are now putting a lot of thought into.

With our Christmas play coming up we are all getting into the festive mood. A few reminders of dates:

Our Christmas play costumes need to be in by Monday 4th December (ready for our dress rehearsals).

On 7th December at 5pm we have our school Christmas Fair. Your children will be given a time slot during this

evening when they can come along to help run their class stall.

Thank you for everything you have provided to assist with the children’s learning this half term – your support

really helps us in making learning meaningful and it is much appreciated!

Choir St Peter’s Primary School are very proud to now have their own choir! They have been rehearsing every week and working really hard to learn lots of different songs. They recently performed at the St. Peter’s Community Choir concert, in collaboration with Twynham Primary School and Poole Borough Brass Band. They sang beautifully and were a real credit to the school. The choir will be performing again at the St. Peter’s Advent Service which takes place on Tuesday 5th December at Corpus Christi Church. Everyone is very welcome. The choir will also be entertaining us at our Christmas Fair on Thursday 7h December, in the school hall. Mrs Byles

Jack and the Beanstalk

We are almost ready to go on our exciting trip to the Panto. Thank you to all

those parents and carers who have offered to join us. Without your help this

kind of trip could not go ahead so it is very much appreciated.

PTA CAKE SALE

The cake sale held last Friday was a huge success and raised £137 For our playground fund. Thank

you to the parents of Year 1 for supplying delicious cakes and to all those who purchased them.

The next cake sale is on Thursday 14th December. Please may we ask the parents of Year 2 to

supply the cakes for that sale.

Gymnastics Schools Tumbling Competition

Year 3 children

On Sunday 19th November we took two teams to the Schools Team Tumbling Competition. It was a huge event with over 100 competitors. Congratulations to Brandon Hearn, Lucas Cezak, Aimee Carrington, Madalyn King and Jessica Hynde, who competed in the Mixed tumble team. They came 6th overall,

missing the final by just one place. The girls tumble team of Sophie Edwards, Pheobe Coulston, Jessica Duffy, Imogen Simpson-Fernandes and Julia Zipser faced a very strong field and performed their tumbles beautifully. As the youngest teams in the competition this year, we are really looking forward to challenging for places in the final next year with a Year 3 and Year 4 combined team!

POPPY APPEAL

We received £210.68 for this years Poppy Appeal. The organisers would like to thank

the children for helping with their appeal. Without this support they would be

unable to continue their vital welfare and benevolent work.

Daily Mile The Government have set a challenge for primary schools to ensure that all children are active at school for thirty minutes each day. It is their hope that all primary aged children will be physically active at home for at least thirty minutes each day also. This one hour of daily physical activity has been introduced to improve the fitness and well-being of children. With this in mind, we have introduced all children and staff to our ‘Daily Mile’ initiative. Every day the children run, jog, or even skip for 20 mins with the goal of completing a mile (some children are trying to complete 2!). All children and staff have thoroughly embraced the daily mile. It has been a pleasure to see their happy faces at completing the distance. They are already noticing an improvement in their general fitness levels and rightly enjoying the huge sense of achievement that this brings.

Samaritans Purse Shoe Boxes

A massive thank you to everyone who sent in a shoe box for this

year’s appeal. We collected 107 boxes and the organisers were

extremely gratefully. They have asked us to send on their thanks

to the children and parents for their tremendous generosity.

Music News

It has been a very busy term, full of singing and playing! Year 1 have been really enjoying learning all about African Drumming, and have learnt how to play the Djembe drums. Year 2 have just started to learn to play the recorder, and are making amazing progress! Year 3 have been looking at how to create instruments out of recycled materials, and have learnt how to play Pompeii by Bastille on their newly created junk orchestra. Several Year 3 children have taken up the opportunity to start instrumental/singing lessons. There are now 4 children learning the violin, 12 children learning the piano and 3 children having singing lessons. These lessons are currently only available to Year 3 children, and there is a waiting list at the moment. If you would like your child (Year 3 only) to learn the violin, piano, or singing, then please see Mrs Preston to be placed on the waiting list. Mrs Byles
