SALT & LIGHT MINISTRY NEWS
CRS RICE BOWLS: ENCOUNTER OUR NEIGHBORS
We encounter Jesus this week in Jerusalem, a community he knew well.
We prayerfully enter into our own communities too, encountering those who are hungry and thirsty, and others who need our help.
How does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those we meet in our daily lives? ?
How can you support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities?
Visit crsricebowl.org for more.
Remember that 75% of your donation is used throughout the world by Catholic Relief Services.
The remaining 25% is used by our three local food cupboards.
A CHALLENGE: Last year we collected $1519.44; more than doubled 2016 collection of $600. Let’s see if we can do it again.
Please return your Rice Bowl Containers Easter weekend,
March 31st/April 1st.
Receptacles will be placed in each church for you to return your boxes.
The Salt and Light Committee would like to suggest that as a final Lenten family activity, you count up the change and write out one
check for the amount made payable to “St. Peter’s Parish.”
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT.

FROM THE PASTOR
Praised be Jesus Christ!
We tend to think of the four Gospels as being biographical accounts of the life of Christ, recording for us the main details of Our Blessed Lord’s teaching and ministry.
While this is certainly true, it is also important to point out that the Gospels are not written in the style of modern biographies which attempt to give a comprehensive description of each stage of a person’s life.
Instead, the inspired Gospel writers composed their accounts in the style of what we might call “ancient biographies” which tended to “focus in” on the key moments, giving extended treatment to the most important events without having to give equal treatment to all the other details of a person’s life.
If you look at each of the Gospels, it is remarkable that the events of the last week of Our Blessed Lord’s life typically account for about one-quarter to one-third of the entire text of the Gospel!
It is almost as if once the four Evangelists get to Holy Week, they each “zoom in” in order recount those events in great detail.
It is a literary way of saying: “Pay extremely close attention because this week is the culmination of all the rest of what has been recorded.”
In a similar way in the liturgical life of the Church, Holy Week should be the high point of the year for us as Catholics as we walk with Our Lord on the way to the Cross and Resurrection.
These are the greatest events in the history of the world!
These are the source of our joy and salvation!
It is my hope that we can all make sure to commemorate this Holy Week with the seriousness and solemnity that it deserves.
I especially encourage all to join us for the liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil as the mysteries of our salvation are expressed in the rites and ceremonies of the Sacred Triduum.
In the hearts of Jesus and Mary,
Father Peter Van Lieshout
