A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah (IS 35:1-6A, 10)
The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will
bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song. The glory of Lebanon will be
given to them, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the LORD, the
splendor of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are
weak, say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he
comes with vindication; with divine recompense he comes to save you. Then will the eyes
of the blind be opened, the ears of the deaf be cleared; then will the lame leap like a stag,
then the tongue of the mute will sing. Those whom the LORD has ransomed will return and
enter Zion singing, crowned with everlasting joy; they will meet with joy and gladness,
sorrow and mourning will flee.
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
John the Baptist baptizing Our Lord
December 15, 2019The Third Sunday of Advent - Gaudete or Rose Sunday
(The people’s responses in bold represent wording that Pope Benedict had changed in the Mass throughout the world.)
Greeting
Priest: The Lord be with you.People: And with your spirit.
The Confiteor
I confess to almighty Godand to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinnedin my thoughts and in my words,in what I have doneand in what I have failed to do, (And then striking your breast three times)through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.Priest: Christ have mercy. People: Christ have mercy.Priest: Lord have mercy. People: Lord have mercy.*
*(Or any other option the priest chooses. “The Lord havemercy” can be sung as “Kyrie elÁison” or the Penitentialhymn “Asperges” may be sung.)
A Reading from the Letter of St. James (JAS 5:7-10)
Be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the
precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You
too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not
complain, brothers and sisters, about one another, that you may not be judged. Behold, the Judge
is standing before the gates. Take as an example of hardship and patience, brothers and sisters,
the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Lector: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew (MT 11:2-11)
People: Glory to you, O Lord.
When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ, he sent his disciplesto Jesus with this question, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look foranother?” Jesus said to them in reply, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: theblind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead areraised, and the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the onewho takes no offense at me.” As they were going off, Jesus began to speak to thecrowds about John, “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by thewind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those whowear fine clothing are in royal palaces. Then why did you go out? To see a prophet?Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written:Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way before you.Amen, I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater than Johnthe Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Responsorial: Lord, come and save us. (PS 146:6-7, 8-9, 9-10)
Lector: Alleluia People Only: Alleluia (Stand) Lector Only: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. (IS 61:1)
People Only: Alleluia
Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit.
Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through Him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation He came down
from heaven,At the words that follow, up to and including and became Man, all bow
and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the
Virgin Mary and became Man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
He suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver ofLife, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
Who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the deadand the life of the world to come. Amen.

O Come, Divine Messiah
O come, divine Messiah! The world in silence waits the dayWhen hope shall sing its triumph,And sadness flee away.
Dear Savior haste;Come, come to earth,Dispel the night and show Thy face,And bid us hail the dawn of grace.
Entrance
Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming
Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse's lineage coming as men of old have sung.
It came, a flower bright, amid the cold of winter
When half-gone was the night.
Isaiah 'twas foretold it, the Rose I have in mind:
With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.
To show God's love aright
she bore to men a Savior
When half-gone was the night.
This Flower, whose fragrance tender
With sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor
The darkness everywhere.
True man, yet very God,
From sin and death He saves us
And lightens every load.
Offertory
Eye Has Not Seen
Refrain:Eye has not seen, ear has not heard what God has ready for those who love him; Spirit of love, come, give us the mind of Jesus, teach us the wisdom of God.
When pain and sorrow weigh us down, be near to us, O Lord, forgive the weakness of our faith, and bear us up within your peaceful word. Refrain
Our lives are but a single breath, we flower and we fade, yet all our days are in your hands, so we return in love what love has made. Refrain
To those who see with eyes of faith, the Lord is ever near, reflected in the faces of all the poor and lowly of the world. Refrain
MeditationMother at Thy Feet is Kneeling
Mother at your feet is kneelingOne who loves you, 'tis your childWho has sighed so oft to see you
Bless me, Mother, bless your child.
Mother, when my Jesus calls meFrom this world so dark and drear
From the wily snares of Satan,Shield me, Mother, Mother dear.
Constant was the love he gave her,Though he went forth from her side,Forth to preach, and heal, and suffer,
Till on Calvary he died.
Communion
Let There be Peace on Earth
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth,
The peace that was meant to be!
With God as our Father, brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me.
Let this be the moment now.
With ev’ry breath I take,
Let this be my solemn vow;
To take each moment and live each moment
In peace eternally!
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin
with me!

From Fr. Pat ...
An excellent book by Dr. Scott Hahn! This would be a greatChristmas present for yourself and to give to others. I suggestreading a chapter a day.
Review: The only Catholic Study Bible based on the Revised Standard Version2nd Catholic Edition, the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible New Testament bringstogether all of the books of the New Testament and the penetrating study toolsdeveloped by renowned Bible teachers Dr. Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch. Thisvolume presents the written Word of God in a highly readable, accuratetranslation, excellent for personal and group study. Extensive study notes, topical essays and word studies provide fresh and faithful insights informed by time-tested, authentically Catholic interpretations from the Fathers of the Church and other scholars.Commentaries include the best insights of ancient, medieval and modern scholarship, and follow the Church’sguidelines for biblical interpretation.
