The Liturgy of the Easter Triduum in St Peter’s The Sacred Triduum marks the three holiest days of the Church’s year. It begins with the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper and continues, through Good Friday’s Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Death and Holy Saturday’s Great Vigil of Easter, and continues until Vespers of the Resurrection. Holy Thursday: The Mass of the Lord’s Supper recalls the Last Supper, when the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, loving those who were his own in the world until the very end, offered his Body and Blood under the species of bread and wine to God, and under these symbols, gave them to the Apostles that they might consume them and commanded them and their successors in the priesthood to offer them. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 7.30pm with Watching at the Altar of Repose until Compline (Night Prayer) at 10.45pm. Good Friday: On this day, when Christ our Paschal Lamb was sacrificed, the Church contemplates and adores the Cross of her Lord and Spouse, commemorating her own coming forth from the side of Christ as he slept on the cross, and interceding for the salvation of the world. The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion is at 3.00pm. Office of Readings and Morning Prayer at 9.30am. Stations of the Cross for children at 10.30am. Children who would like to read are asked to be in church by 10.10am. At 7.00pm there will be a celebration of Compline, Procession, Veneration and Placement of the Holy Shroud following the Byzantine tradition. This will be led by Deacon Tim and Fr Lubomyr from the Good Shepherd Ukrainian Church in Gloucester. Holy Saturday: The Easter Vigil, the ‘mother of all vigils’ is the greatest and most noble of all solemnities. On this holy night the Church keeps watch, celebrating the resurrection of Christ in the sacraments of Christian initiation. The Easter Vigil begins at 8.00pm. During the Easter Vigil, Leanne Purnell, Patricia Barker and Les Branchett will be baptised. They, along with Brian Ross, will complete their Christian Initiation through receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. Office of Readings and Morning Prayer at 9.30am. During the 7.00pm Mass on Tuesday April 3rd, Martyn Skues will complete his Christian Initiation through receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.
