The Second collection this week is for the Catholic University of America

Since 1903, the Catholic University of America has been greatly blessed by the generosity of parishioners around the country through the National Collection. University faculty and

scholars promote Catholic social teaching and, through their research and discourse, help for

the Church’s response to challenging social issues of our time. In addition, Catholic

University educates hundreds of priests and religious each year and can proudly call more

than 12,000 of them alumni. Guided by the virtues, a spirit of generosity

and above all a love for God, students grow in understanding and wisdom. The people’s

endowment is more than tuition assistance—it is a legacy, built upon 130 years of educa-

tion in the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Prayer for Patriots Day (Sept. 11)

Almighty God, the events of

September 11th will be indelibly inscribed in our memories.

We looked with horror on the terrorist attack. But we looked with honor on acts of courage by ordinary people who sacrificed themselves

to prevent further death and destruction.

We shed our tears in a common bond of grief for those we loved and lost.

We journeyed through a dark valley,

but your light has led us to a place of hope. You have turned our grief into determination.

We are resolved to do what is good, and right, and just.

Help us to remember what it means to be Americans—a people endowed

with abundant blessings. Help us to cherish the freedoms we enjoy

and inspire us to stand with courage,

united as one nation in the midst of a ny adversity.

Lord, hear this prayer for our nation. Amen. (Source – U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps)

The significance of the 50% Construction Drawings or documents in the project development cannot be understated for the following reasons: 1. The 50% plan development milestone is when we will be soliciting, evaluating, and selecting a Construction Manager or CM (in layman’s term a “building contractor") to become part of the team. The CM will be the construction company ultimately responsible for building and delivering the project for us. In order to solicit CM services, we will be preparing an RFPQ (Request for Proposal and Qualifications) for the potential CMs to respond to and will include the 50% plans and specs for them to prepare a preliminary budget, which will be used to establish the contract construction GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price). We will be soliciting 3 or 4 prequalified construction managers to participate. 2. Selecting a CM and establishing a GMP at 50% project development is important because it will also provide 'CM/builder oversight’ of the plans being finalized from 50% to 100% — which helps to maintain cost controls and helps avoid potential cost over runs, or other unpleasant “surprises”. 3. Also, of importance is that selecting a CM and establishing a GMP at 50% project development will allow us to continue our discussions and negotiations with the insurance company. As you know, there have been differing opinions on what the replacement cost of the church and rectory is going to finally be, considering all the required site work.

Please save the date! On Sept. 15 at

11 a.m. here in the Ministry Center

Chapel, our Architect will present

the 50% Construction Drawings of

our new church & rectory. All

registered parishioners are invited

—especially our Ministry Leaders

and their active members together

with our Parish Building Committee

and Finance Council members.
