Grade 9 Mathematics Trip to Boston & New York

During the long weekend in May, St. Paul’s will be offering a Math trip for any grade 9 students interested in going. We will be

leaving Friday, May 19, 2017 to fly to Boston. We will be taking a train to New York and then we will return on Wednesday,

May 24, 2017. If you would like more information or would like to sign your son/daughter up for the trip, please contact Ms.

Foote at [email protected]

Math Tutorial Videos

Teaching videos for grade 7 and 8 math are available for student home use. To preview, check out Mr. Hale's webpage. Links are posted there. They are available English for 7 and 8 and French for grade 7 with French version coming soon for grade 8.

After School Tutorials

Students are encouraged to consider taking advantage of our Wednesday after school tutorial program open to all stu-dents. Check with your teacher for location.

Breakfast Program

Breakfast Club is up and running. We offer a wide variety of food each morning, including gluten free items. On Day 5, we will have a special breakfast treat. All students have been given a request sheet to bring home. We are hoping, if you can, that you might donate one or more of the mentioned items to help stock our cupboards for breakfast. Be sure to check us out!

On Wednesday, November 2, 2016 our school participated in a Breakfast Blitz, to help fill our KES Cupboards. We are asking you to please send along a breakfast item or a donation to support our school’s Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Program. If you wish you may make your donation online at www.kidseatsmart.ca and designate our school to receive your gift. It’s important that we fill our KES cupboards to ensure our children start their days well nourished and ready to learn.

Recycling

Anyone who wants to donate their recyclables to the school can do so by dropping their items by the shed on the side of the school.

Books, locks, lockers

All lockers must be locked with a school supplied lock. Lockers are the property of the NLESD. Parent/guardians are respon-sible for ALL books assigned to students and if lost, replacement cost of the book

needs to be sent to the office before a second copy is issued. If this is a concern

please contact the office.

Busing

Please note that , students are only per-mitted to ride the bus which they are as-signed to, which is their neighbourhood bus. They are not permitted to ride any other bus without permission. You may check the NLESD web site for information on bus routes for SPJH

Absences

According to the School’s Act, students are expected to be in attendance if school is open. If, for some reason, a student is absent a parent/guardians should notify the Homeroom Teacher and the school secretary, Allison Sheppard so that your child is not marked absent unexcused and you will not get a call from Synrevoice. In addition, absent notes can be sent in via the school app and then Power School will be updated accordingly .

Important Information

Parking Lot Safety

Parents/guardians enter at the lower entrance (by School Crosswalk– nearest to Logy Bay Road) and exit at top entrance (by Carrick Drive). In the morning, parents/guardians can form a second line alongside the parking spaces to drop of students then proceed onto the EXIT. Please note before moving to exit or back of school parents must stop. The busses will park besides the school in BUS LANE/FIRE EXIT to drop off students. In the afternoon, to ensure the safety of all students, parents/guardians can pick up their son/daughter at the back of school at the lower entrance. Parents can find a diagram on the school webpage under Parents for more specific directions as to traffic flow relating to the school parking lot.

Please note: The recycling program at SPJH holds monthly recycling drives where parents can drop off dona-tions to the school. The first Friday of every month will be recycling day. Items can be dropped off during the morning. Please drop them to the left of the shed, on the side. Thanks for your support with this initiative!

Active Living Update

To show our support of Active Living we have the following practices: Students go outside during second half of lunch break when weather permits so students should dress appropriately. There are times that students go out in very light clothing and we do not want them to risk getting sick. Students and staff are encouraged to wear “Active Wear” on each and every Day One in the cycle. Fridays are designated Nature Trail Walk Days when the weather is suitable. We are lucky to be located in close proximity to the Virginia Park Trails and when the opportunity arises then this is a great way to allow learning to go beyond the class-

Assessment and

Evaluation Policy All policies are available on-line at www.nlesd.ca. If parent/guardians would like to request a paper copy, please contact the office.
