OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ.

Dear Holy People of God:

Today, let us reflect on the spiritual richness of the life-giving words of Jesus on the fun-damental elements of discipleship that is revealed by carrying his cross. Read carefully:

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross and fol-low me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

The cross is love! And this love is clearly expressed by the “vertical wood” and the “horizontal wood” of the cross. The “vertical wood” is seen as the “love of God” while the “horizontal wood” is looked at as “love of neighbor.”

“Love of God” is a call of discipleship! But what is very challenging is living it. When you love God, it’s not “half/half,” nor “maybe,” and it’s not 25% today and 75% tomorrow. It’s 100%! It’s with all your heart, soul, and with your entire mind!

“Love of neighbor” is witnessing! It’s the difficult part of being a disciple, because our love of God must be the benchmark of our love of neighbor. Mean-ing, like Jesus, we are more than willing to “lay down our life for a neighbor or a friend!”

Following Jesus, humanly speaking, we say: “It’s difficult, Lord, but challenging and fulfilling!” Carrying his cross, physically speaking, we say: “ It’s heavy Lord, but it lightens and removes the burdens in our hearts.” Because the CROSS simply means: Christ Removes Our Sins and Shame!

The cross is the icon of our discipleship and witnessing. We transform others with our witness to become world-class Christians. So, when you carry your cross, you are not only a disciple, but also you’re witnessing to what the cross stands for “to lay down our life for one’s friends!” That’s what Jesus did: he gave his life for all of us. No questions asked. Period.

So, today, as a cross bearer (disciple and witness) of Christ: be Church-builders to become faith-givers; be wounded-healers to become life-changers; and be hope-providers to become mission-designers! God bless you all! Fr. Romy Seleccion, MS
