Liturgy and Worship Liturgia y el Culto

TODAY IS CATECHETICAL SUNDAY

We pray for all of the dedicated people that give of their time to educate all of our people in the Catholic Faith. This includes parents and guardians who help share the Catholic Faith in their homes: the first church.

******************************************

Come join us for the Annual “Blessing of the Animals” on Saturday, October 4th. Check the bulletin for more details.

Blessing of Pastoral Musicians On Monday, November 22nd, we honor Saint Cecilia, the patroness of singers and musicians. In a special way we honor our Music Ministry here at St. Paul with a blessing at all Masses this weekend, to those who give generously back to God the gift of music. We are pleased and grateful to have these talented singers and musicians lead us in sung prayer. On this feast of the patroness of music, let us consider the words of St. Augustine: Words cannot express the things that are sung by the heart…and if so happy that words can no longer express what they feel, people discard the restricting syllables. They burst out into a simple sound of joy, of jubilation.”

VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE IN THE NARTHEX THIS SUNDAY

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops states that “participation in the political process is a moral obligation” of Catholics. To be eligible to vote in the Tuesday, November 4th general election, you must already be registered to vote or have mailed in your voter registration card by Monday, October. 6th. Early voting is October 20-31. Photo ID is currently required for voting in person. Voter Registration materials will be available in the Narthex next weekend, September 27-28th, after all Masses. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

Ministry and Continuing Education for Adults Because Our Faith is too Rich to have ever Learned it All…

Contact Heidi Clark, Director of Adult Ministry, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected] for more information. What does the Church Teach about Murder, Suicide and the Death Penalty? And Why?

Twice monthly, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, parishioners gather for an interesting and informative presentation on what the Church teaches about a wide variety of different topics. Join us for our next gathering set for Tuesday, September 23, when we discuss the Fifth Commandment and what it means to respect life. The topic is based on Chapter 29 of the Catholic Catechism for Adults, and the discussion is led by author and theologian, Julie Dienno-Demarest. Attend as often as you like, whether you have a copy of the catechism or not. All are welcome. Next up? The Fifth Commandment continued on Tuesday, October 14: Abortion, In-Vitro Fertilization, Stem Cell Research, and Cloning.

How does Christ Work thru Sacraments and Liturgy?

This new 10-week class focuses on how we encounter God in the sacraments and what Christ communicates to us through them. Transformed by a new understanding of sacramental grace, we’ll be more capable of living a moral, Christ-centered life. Thursday night sessions begin October 9, from 7-8:30 PM in Room 1. The class will be offered Wednesday mornings beginning October 8, in the conference Room, 9:30 - 11 AM.

New Baptism Class Dates To better serve the needs of our community, our baptism class dates have changed to one four-hour class on the first Sunday of the month instead of three two-hour classes spread over three weeks. The new classes take place on Sunday afternoons from 12:30–4:30 PM. This change began with the September session and applies only to the classes offered in English.

Interested in being Catholic? If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about becoming Catholic, our RCIA program is just the ticket! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a process of prayer, reflection, and learning that allows for the continual discernment of God's will. Want more info? Contact Heidi Clark, 281.333.3891, Ext. 328 or [email protected].

Upcoming NFP Intro Classes Free introductory sessions for the Creighton Method of NFP are taught one Saturday morning a month, from 10 AM to Noon, in Room 1. Upcoming classes are set for October 18, and November 22.

Thank You!! Our parish’s Gabriel Project exits to assist any parents who are facing struggles during pregnancy. Because of your generosity, we’ve recently supplied growing families with cribs, strollers, clothing, diapers and other needs. We also were able to help one mom with rent assistance during her maternity leave.

Learn about Human Trafficking in Houston Slavery doesn’t occur just in history books; it’s right here in our own community. There are more people enslaved today than at any point in history, and Houston is at the epicenter. Elijah Rising is a local organization working to end human trafficking through prayer, awareness, and intervention. As part of our Respect Life Month, representatives from Elijah Rising are presenting a human trafficking awareness night at St. Paul on Monday, October 6, in Spanish and Monday, October 13, in English from 7–8:30 PM in the church. Attendees will learn how to recognize victims of human trafficking and what they can do to help.

Improve your Marriage Without Talking About It!

Talking about your marriage DOESN’T work, say Drs. Patricia Love and Steven Stosny, well-known marriage educators and authors. Their book, How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It, teaches couples how to get closer in ways that don’t require “trying to turn a man into a woman.” Find out more by attending our next Happy Twogether book study beginning Tuesday, September 23 at 7 PM in the former book store area. Couples do not have to participate together, and free babysitting is provided when you call ahead to make reservations. Contact Heidi Clark for more information: [email protected] or 281.333.3891.

Annulment Information Night If you’d like to better understand what the Church teaches in regard to annulments, how they are processed in this archdiocese, and the steps you need to take to begin the process, plan now to attend our upcoming annulment information night on Wednesday, October 8, from 7-8:30 PM in Founders Hall. Anne Bryant, who directs the archdiocesan tribunal and has a degree in canon law, will be our guest presenter. There will also be an opportunity to sign up for private sessions with certified annulment case sponsors.

Catholic…Divorced…Now What? Session Begins November 10

We are truly divorced only when we let go of our marriage, mourn our loss, and adjust ourselves to our new life. At St. Paul, our Divorce Care Group exists to help one another do just that. This is a Catholic peer-ministry support group that addresses the stress, anger, blame and guilt of divorce and leads participants toward forgiveness, happiness and growth. The 14-session program begins Monday, November 10, and meets weekly into February. Cost is $30; financial assistance is available. Free childcare is provided when reservations are made in advance. The program will be facilitated by Laura Hicks, LMFT with the assistance of others who have already completed the program. Contact Heidi if you are interested in participating: [email protected] or 281.333.3891.
