Look at the cross – if our names are written in the palms of Jesus, and he let his palms be nailed on the cross, that’s the evidence then of his unconditional love that he will die for us no matter what the cost maybe, only to make it sure that we are with him in paradise, as he promised, “Today, you will be with me in paradise!” Our life is sacred; it’s from God. And no one has the authority to take that life from anyone. Anything that threatens the sanctity of life, like: abortion, euthanasia, war, terrorism and death penalty, we have the responsibility to denounced it. Non-participation in the protection and preservation of the sanctity of LIFE is a form of collaboration with evil. And if we, the Church, don’t do anything, not even to lift a finger to save the holiness of life, we are committing the greatest sin of omission; then, we are led to the brink of spiritual bankruptcy. Therefore, let us commit ourselves to a cultural transformation, to a personal conversion: from a culture of “I don’t care” to a culture of “I am my brother’s/sister’s keeper;” from a culture of violence to a culture of peace; from a culture of hate to a culture of love and from a culture of death to a culture of life. So, today, as we take our best shot in safeguarding the holiness of LIFE, let our battle cry for human dignity and the respect for life be: NO TO VIOLENCE, YES TO PEACE! NO TO DEATH, YES TO LIFE! OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We, the people of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Faith Community, Baptized into Jesus Christ, formed by Word and Sacrament, and Empowered by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Seek to be a visible sign of God’s love. We seek to build the Kingdom of God by: Using our unique gifts to minister to one another, Welcoming all and caring for those in need, Teaching our faith to others and Uniting in worship as a family with the Body of Christ.

    Dear Holy People of God:

The parable in the gospel today begins with these words:

"There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower."

The landowner is GOD; the vineyard is a symbol of LIFE! God has given us that LIFE: it’s holy and sacred. He built a wall around it and it’s called the wall of love. He dug a winepress around it, it’s called the winepress of living water; he built a watchtower, it’s called the watchtower of grace.

And I would like to focus my reflection on this LIFE that God has protected from the beginning of creation. Our LIFE is the sign of God’s love. That is how precious we are in God’s heart. Listen to what he told the Israelites 2000 years ago:

"Even if a mother could forget her child, I will not forget you. I have carved you in the palms of my hands.”

And that is very true. Look at the cross – if our names are written in the palms of Jesus, and he let his palms be nailed on the cross, that’s the evidence then of his unconditional love that he will die for us no matter what the cost maybe, only to make it sure that we are with him in paradise, as he promised, “Today, you will be with me in paradise!”

Our life is sacred; it’s from God.

So, today, as we take our best shot in safeguarding the holiness of LIFE, let our battle cry for human dignity and the respect for life be:

NO TO VIOLENCE, YES TO PEACE! NO TO DEATH, YES TO LIFE!

LIFE IS SACRED, IT’S GOD’S GIFT!

    Blessings,

    Reminder for weekend masses

As a reminder to those who have chosen to once again join us for the “live and in person,” outdoor celebra-tions of the Mass, we do remind you of the following to help keep you healthy and safe during these liturgical celebrations:

In the last days of summer the outdoor temperatures can reach high numbers, and knowing that there may be little shade in the area where the outdoor Masses are celebrated, we highly encourage everyone to bring the following with you:

∗ Sunscreen ∗ Sunglasses ∗ Hats ∗ Footwear appropriate for an outdoor setting (e.g., tennis shoes – ladies, no high heels

since we are outdoors and the surfaces can be very uneven) ∗ Bottled water ∗ Hand Sanitizer

The following items are not permitted: ∗ Umbrellas ∗ Personal Fans

♦ Everyone over the age of 2 years, must wear a face mask throughout the entire celebration which covers the nose and mouth (Note: this mask may only be removed at the moment when one is receiving the Eucharist/Communion, and then must be placed back over the nose and mouth after the Eucharist has been consumed).

♦ Please note that, at this time, restrooms will be for emergency use only. ♦ For those who may be prone to heat/sun stroke, you are cautioned to consider your participation in the

outdoor Mass very carefully. We will still be broadcasting the Livestream Masses on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

We encourage you to take notes as you reflect on this week readings / homily

    The VINEYARD of the LORD

I t’s said there are only a few basic plots for most stories. What the storyteller does with the plot—the twists and turns that are added—is what makes a story mem-orable. In this week’s Gospel, Jesus takes a story of a vineyard, which would have been very familiar to his audience, and gives it an unex-pected twist. The priests and elders whom Jesus was addressing would have been very accustomed to the image of Israel as a vineyard. Prophets like Isaiah in the first reading had used the illustration for hundreds of years. So Jesus' audience probably wasn’t expecting him to use the story against them. Instead of focusing on the poor fruit that the vineyard was producing, Jesus concentrates on the tenants who are responsible for tending the fields. He says that when the master

wants his produce, the tenants mis-treat and even kill the messengers. When the owner finally sends his own son, the tenants kill even him. In hearing that story, the priests and elders had to have realized that they were the tenants who hadn’t been good stewards of the master’s fields. They had to see that they were the ones who rejected the prophets sent by God. They might not, however, have completely understood that the person telling the story, Jesus, was the Son of God and that in a very short period of time, he would be rejected and put to death. We do know and so we are forced to ask ourselves the question: What kind of a tenant am I in the Father’s vineyard? Am I welcoming the Son when he comes to the vineyard to collect the produce, or am I rejecting him by failing to produce good fruit in my words and deeds?

    • According to the presenter, the parable of the vineyard

would have been familiar to Jesus’ audience, but Jesus gave it a surprise ending. What was the surprise?

    • How does the parable of the vineyard apply to the history of Israel?

M EDITATION: Close your eyes and envision yourself sitting beside Jesus. He reads the passage from Isaiah, directing it personally to you: "My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside; he spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes. Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?" What do you say to Je-sus? Do you try to make an excuse for your lack of good grapes? What does Jesus say in response?
