Will you please help our children in need prepare for the coming school year? In these difficult financial times, the number of registered “homeless” children in our Chino Valley Unified School District is in the hundreds. These children really need our help! If you know of someone in need, have them visit our Parish Office to sign up for assistance.

From Now to August 1st, we are collecting the following school supplies: backpacks, 2” 3-ring binders, college ruled filler paper, college ruled single subject spiral notebooks, folders, pens (blue, black & red), colored pencils, #2 pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, highlighters and any other “new” school supplies are greatly appreciated!

Our backpack collection bins are located in Maher Hall. Our backpack packaging will be on Sunday, August 2nd at 4:00 p.m. in Maher Hall. This drive is approved as parish hours OR community hours for all Confirmation Teens! All other volunteers are welcome too! Thank you for your continual support. Every backpack makes a difference! Have you ever considered what it means to pass on the faith to children? Answer the call of your baptism!

Allow the answer to ease any fears: I am a sinner who knows that Jesus died for sinners. He calls sinners who believe in him “saints”. (Ephesians 2:19)

And he calls some of those saints to be “teachers”. (Ephesians 2:7-10)

We need volunteer catechists at ALL levels, 1st Year through High School. We provide summer coursework and support throughout the year for

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

When Catholicism encounters a culture, it tends to approach the culture with a measure of respect for its key customs, especially those touching family life. Around the world, these long-established customs are often received into the liturgy, sometimes with a new level of interpretation. From Old Mexico, the custom of the lasso (“cord”) has migrated across borders, and is now firmly established in the marriage liturgy of Spanish-speaking Catholics in the United States beads, looped around the necks of the newlyweds in a figure- eight shape. It is a great honor for a person, normally a godparent or close relative, to place the lasso around the shoulders of the couple, groom first. The lasso, a symbol of profound unity, remains in place throughout the liturgy until removed, usually by the priest. The bride keeps the lasso as a memento of the day, a sign of her ties of love to her husband in heart and home. The tender ministry of the godparent in this ceremony clearly links this sacrament of vocation with baptism. It’s not unusual to see the lasso made of fragrant orange blossoms, harking back to very ancient pre-Christian rituals seeking the blessings of fertility and happiness.
