WELCOMEWELCOMEWELCOMEWELCOME

St. Patrick’s Netball Club welcomes all Players and Parents. We hope you enjoy your netball experience with us. We are a friendly club providing all players with the opportunity to play netball at a level appropriate to their team ability. It is important that every child and parent enjoys himself or herself, improves their skills, plays in a team sport and makes friends. For this reason we have developed this Information and Policy Manual to assist with the administration of the Club. This manual has been developed through experience and over time will be updated as required. It formalises the values that promote good relationships between all parties and it is required that any changes to this Manual be made and approved by the Committee. Happy Netballing, St.Patrick’s Netball Club Committee

WHAT IS AVAILABLE?WHAT IS AVAILABLE?WHAT IS AVAILABLE?WHAT IS AVAILABLE?

• A Child must be turning 8 years of age during the year they commence playing in Saturday competition.

• Teams are formed according to birth dates NOT friendship groups or school classes... Any exception to this rule is considered on a case-by-case basis and is done at the discretion of the Committee.

The Committee will make final decision on selection for all teams.

• Players in 11 and under teams will be rotated in all positions evenly. Skill development and participation is the number one priority for St. Patrick’s Netball Club 11 and under players.

• Whilst playing within the Waverley City Competition, Waverley City Netball Association will grade St Patrick’s netball teams according to age and standard of play for relevant ages.

Net Set Go

Net Set Go is offered to children in grades 1, 2 and 3 and is organised by the Net Set Go Coordinator. During these years, children will learn basic netball skills. Simply being active and learning co-operative play are important aspects of this period. Net Set Go takes place during Term 2 of the school year and usually takes place at St. Patrick’s Primary School on a Wednesday afternoon. The Club strongly recommends that players participate in the Net Set Go program for at least one, ideally two terms before playing competitive netball on a Saturday morning. Children must have paid their VNA insurance, before they can participate in the program. This charge is incorporated in the Net Set Go subscriptions that are paid to the Club. The VNA insurance cost is determined by the Victorian Netball Association on a yearly basis and must be renewed each year.

Girls in particular, have concerns, which can affect their attitude to involvement in sport. During these years teenagers are seeking their identity. It is a challenging time personally, socially and physically. It is a time when the idea of sport and physical activity may become a lower priority.

• Training once per week for Saturday game. Training details are confirmed ad advised prior to the commencement of each season.

• Girls are eligible to try out for out for Waverley City Representative Teams.

• Encourage players to participate in umpiring courses and umpire for the club from Year 8.

PLAYING POSITIONS POLICY

It is the aim of the club that all players will have developed a working understanding and ability to play in all positions. To assist with this aim the Club has developed a Playing Positions Policy for the guidance of coaches. 11 Years and Under

• Coaches in 11 & under shall regularly rotate players through all the playing positions.

• It is recognised that when a team has a number of inexperienced players and some experienced players; it is beneficial to the team to play the more experienced players in the key positions early in the season.

• However over the season it is expected that each player will be given experience both at training and in games in all positions.

• All players to play minimum of half game in any game including all finals.

13 Years and Under

• Coaches in 13 & under grades shall rotate players through different playing positions. This may be achieved by selecting: for example, 3 positions per player.

• A Coach can rotate players in different positions during the course of a game that meets the players’ strengths and / or benefits the team during that game.

• At training, however, it is anticipated that all players shall have their experience and expertise in all positions expanded.

• All players to play minimum of half game in any game including all finals.

15 to 19 Years and Under

• Coaches are encouraged to discuss the implementation methods to achieve aims with the other coaches in their age group to ensure a consistent approach is maintained. It is also anticipated that at this stage, players will become more accustomed to set positions. The Club acknowledges this and playing positions will be decided at the coaches’ discretion.

• All players to play minimum of half game in any game including all finals.
