THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT – JOY“Rejoice: the Lord is near.” As Christmas draws near, the Church emphasizes the joy which should be in our hearts over all that the birth of our Savior means for us. The great joy of Christians is to see the day drawing nigh when the Lord will come again in His glory to lead them into His kingdom. The often repeated Veni (“Come”) of Advent is an echo not only of the prophets but also of the conclusion of the Apocalypse of St. John: “Come, Lord Jesus,” the last words of the New Testament.

Today is known as Gaudete Sunday. The term Gaudete refers to the first word of the En-trance Antiphon, “Rejoice”. Rose vestments are worn to emphasize our joy that Christmas is near, and we also light the rose candle on our Advent wreath.

ELECTRONIC MINISTRY SCHEDULESWe have heard that some people are not getting their ministry schedules electronically. If this is the case, please either call the office and ask for Louanne, or send her an email at [email protected]. Hard copies of the monthly schedule will be available in the Sacristy and the Information Desk.

SALE OF HAND-KNITTED SOCKS, MITTS AND SLIPPERSThanks to everyone who purchased these items last weekend. As a result of this sale, $1,228 was raised for De Mazenod Door Outreach.

HOSPITALITY AND FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEEThank you once again for your dedication to raising funds for St. Patrick Church! Through the sale of shortbread cookies, fudge and Christmas cakes, they raised over $700.

BAPTISMS THIS SUNDAYWe are happy to welcome the following children as they join us to be baptized this Sunday:Kaiya, Journey, Olivia, Locklyn, Ivy, Nyah. May this be the beginning of experiencing the wonders of God in your life.

CHRISTMAS TREE APPEALPlease remember to bring in your unwrapped gifts to correspond with the tag you chose from the Christmas Tree Appeal. In order to make sure the students from St. Patrick and St. Brigid schools get the gifts on time for Christmas, please make sure they are dropped off NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19.

BARBIE HAS ARRIVED!Again this year, John and Marilyn Pavao, who own a farm in Haldimand County, gifted Fr. Tony with a cow for his birthday, who he named Barbie (as in barbe-que). Barbie, who weighed in around 500 lbs., grazed all summer on their farm, and arrived here butchered and packaged, last week. She will feed our De Ma-zenod Door guests for the winter. Thank you John and Marilyn for the gift that continues to give. A lot of hungry people this winter will appreciate this wonderful gift. Lou-Lou, is Fr. Tony’s birthday gift this year. She will continue to be pam-pered on the farm, until it is her turn to be the gift that keeps on giving.

ST. PATRICK HERITAGE FUND We recently received $2,000 from a number of donors towards the continuing repair to our stained glass windows. As you know, we have been systemat-ically repairing our windows, with the windows in the worst condition being repaired first. Our most recent window to be repaired was the centre window in the Sanctuary. It is a relief to know that due to the generosity of these and other donors, these works of art will be protected from the elements for many more years to come.

VOLUNTEERS FOR CHRISTMAS MASSESWe are still in need of hosts (greeters) and Eucharistic ministers, for the 8:30 PM and Midnight Mass Christmas Eve, and the 9:00 and 11:30 AM Christmas Day Masses. Please contact Louanne McClemont, either by phone or email, or fill in a spot in the binder at the Information Desk.

FESTIVAL OF CHOIRSThanks to all who joined us Thursday evening to experience a joyful evening of Christmas songs in our church. It was a delight to hear the youthful voices of the children from St. Theresa of Calcutta elementary school, along with the more mature voices of the Cathedral Glee Club. Thanks as well to our own St. Patrick choirs - The Youth Band, the Senior Choir, and the Sunday night Folk Choir for their final songs to end the night on a joyous note.

This event, through sponsorship of the program from La Fiora Floral and Event Design and Allies in Downsizing (thanks Leo Blain for orchestrat-ing), goodwill offerings at the door and draw tick-ets, we are able to present $857 to De Mazenod Door Outreach. Thank you all for your generosi-ty! Thanks as well to the staff and volunteers who manned the doors.

DE MAZENOD DOOR OUTREACH We strive to live out of a missionary spirit that focuses our minsitry on the Poor and Marginalized in our Midst

DE MAZENOD DOOR OUTREACHOn Friday December 8th we had a great group of 32 grade 7 and 8 Confirmandi students from Immac-ulate Heart of Mary Elementary School in Winona along with teachers, EA’s and Fr. Bill Trusz from Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. These students came to help us out at the Door prepping food etc., as well as assisting with the Friday BBQ which was also sponsored by them! The day was cold and windy and many of the students weren’t dressed for the weather and needed to spell each other off taking breaks inside to get warm. It was a gentle reminder to them about those lined up waiting for lunch, many without warm jackets or gloves, nor the abil-ity to be able to go inside their homes to get warm and how we really shouldn’t take anything for granted. Thank you to a wonderful group of students who were so eager and willing to help. It was lovely to see and hear one sweet young lady repeatedly exclaim ‘this is amazing, THIS IS amazing”!

Fr. Scott Whitfield from Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Stoney Creek, stopped by this week with a donation which the Kindergarten class from St. James the Apostle Elementary School in Hamilton had collected. These little ones raised $100 from a coin collection from Fr. Scott’s ‘St. Nicholas visit’ with them.

A reminder that our sign-up sheets are at the back at the Information Desk in the red binder, for any and all volunteers wishing to help out at the upcoming Christmas/New Year luncheon on January 14, 2018. There are separate lists for those wishing to prepare food, serve tables, set up, clean up etc. Please add your name and contact info to a favourite chore you’d like to participate in and Sherri will contact you with further information.
