The Blessed Mother Candle burns

in memory of

Rose Quinn

I believe, that by declaring our knowledge of God, it

is both a blessing and a responsibility. Jesus once

asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?”

Knowing God is more than just being able to intel-

lectually or spiritually acknowledge His presence in

our lives. Indeed, it behooves us to declare that He

is actively working in our lives.

During my tenure and assignment in Haiti, I came

to the realization that faith in God demands work. I

can recollect a day when a young woman in Haiti

came to me asking for assistance. She was about

15 years old and about to give birth to her first

child. She asked for support, so that she could go

to a local hospital. At the hospital, she was imme-

diately put into the caesarian process in prepara-

tion for the delivery of her child. Unfortunately, af-

ter only a few hours at the hospital, she was re-

leased, without being fully stitched up and sent

home. She was advised by the facility that she did

not have enough financial resources to pay the

hospital for her medical care. This was just one

story among many other sad stories that I encoun-

tered in Haiti. Yet, her story motivated me to work

hard and by God’s grace, we were able to build a

medical clinic in that parish. To this day, this clin-

ic continues to serve the poorest of Haiti’s citizens.

Jesus constantly invites

us to show our faith

through our works. As

the apostle James stat-

ed, “So also faith of it-

self, if it does not have

works, is dead.” It is not

acceptable to God if be-

lievers do not help the

poor that are in their midst. Indeed, faith that can-

not feed the hungry, dress the naked and tend the

wounded is therefore, dead.

Our profession of faith and our confession about

Jesus should give us the motivation to emulate

Him. Our profession and confession should trans-

form us to be Christians in action. Every day we

have an opportunity to live by and exercise our

faith. Every day presents us with new opportuni-

ties to make a little bit of difference in our commu-

nities. The choice is in our hands. The struggles

and the sufferings around us must motivate us to

show our faith in action. May we have the courage

and humility to say, “Demonstrate your faith to me

without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to

you from works” (James 2:18).

New Sunday morning PREP session

This year our Religious Ed program is having a Sunday morn-

ing session at 9:15. We please ask the 9:00 Mass a!endees to

not park along the curb in the school parking lot, as this is a

fire lane which we must keep open with children in the school

building. This lane will also be used for dropping off children

for PREP. The drop off pa!ern will bring traffic out the Rob-

erts Ave. gate of the school parking lot. Please be aware that

this is a one way OUT exit, not entrance. The entrance is from

Channing Ave. We are happy to welcome our PREP children

and their families to the 10:30 mass a1er class.

Building and Appeal Update….

Our Growing Together as a Family of Faith Appeal continues to gain momentum as we

prepare for our growing community.

We are approaching the finish line for our new parish offices. We look forward to our Open

House on the weekend of September 15th/16th.

The preliminary work for the second & third phases of our project is now underway.

Our next phase is the installation of a new playground for our parish. The preliminary architec-

tural drawings have been reviewed and there are some updates that need to be included. There will be an area for our young children,

with playground equipment, a safe surface for the children. The playground, in its preliminary stages has a small area for a basketball

net as well as a large open area with grass for kickball. The entire area will have a fence and landscaping.

We will keep you updated as we progress.

Thank you for your continued generosity and financial support.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word:

Leaders and Aides Needed

We are in need of leaders and aides to guide

the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, which is offered at the

9:00 and the 10:30 masses. The very young children go to

the lower level of the church to hear the readings and Gos-

pel in a way for them to understand. Then they return to

mass with their families. Please consider helping in this

ministry to the youngest members of our parish family.

Please contact Sr. Eileen at 6102968899 or

[email protected]. Thank you!

Catechetical Sunday…Thank you, Catechists

Today the Church throughout the United States celebrates

our annual Catechetical Sunday. The theme for this year is

Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ. We take

this Sunday observance to thank God for the gift

of His Word and teaching that is for all of us…

child and adult. We thank God also for inviting

us into relationship with Him through prayer and

knowledge of Him. But God uses us, His human creatures,

to be His hands, eyes and heart on earth. And so, the faith

needs to be taught and passed on from one generation to the

next. Therefore, today we especially thank and honor those

men and women from St. Patrick Parish who offer their time,

talent, lived faith and love of God to our parish children…

our catechists. Thanks to all of you who said “YES” to this

ministry in our parish! May God bless you!

ST. PATRICK’S is offering 2 Sessions of

Walking with Purpose is a Catholic Bible study that aims to bring

women to a deeper, personal relationship with Christ through

personal study and small group discussions that link our everyday

challenges with solutions given to us through the teachings of

Christ and the Catholic Church. For more information on Walk-

ing with Purpose, go to www.walkingwithpurpose.com.

If you’d like to sign up or need more information on our parish

program, email us at [email protected].

‘Opening Your Heart’ This bible study is an incredibly

effective guide to deep, lasting transformation of the

heart. Join us as we take a deeper dive into the ques-

tions that we need to wrestle with if we want to experi-

ence all that God has for us. For example: What is the

role of the Holy Spirit in my life? How can I conquer my

fears? What are the limits of Christ’s forgiveness? Why

and how should I pray? What is the role of suffering in

my life?

‘Discovering our Dignity' This bible study focuses on the

Women of the Old and New Testament and how the

power of God worked in their lives. Through their sto-

ries recorded in Scripture, they reach out to touch our

“present” in a tender, honest and loving way - woman to

woman - with ancient wisdom, sage advice, and in-

sights.
