Sunday in Ordinary Time
After reading short stories about love, the class was
challenged to define what love is. It proved to be more
difficult than they imagined. Students claimed that they
knew what it was, but were hard pressed to put it into
words. It was easier to describe loving actions than it was
to define love itself. So, when we say “I love you,” what
does it mean?
Many times we are the beneficiaries of the love of others.
It comes to us in selfless acts of love and kindness that
make our lives better, easier or more enjoyable. People
have done for us and continue to do for us even when we
are unaware. They’ve kept us safe, taught us, coached us,
directed us, prayed for us and healed us. Behind
the scenes, people have sacrificed a lot to give us
a better life. And it is done out of love.
This week, surprise some people and practice
random acts of kindness. Do something for ot-
hers, the little things that make people smile.
Hold a door, pick up groceries, call or visit a shut
-in. Let someone go first in line. Find some kind
words for someone who is struggling. Be gene-
rous and considerate of others. Create your own
definition of love and let it be best described by
what you do.

Meditación del Papa Francisco Después de una primera reacción positiva, alguno movido
por la polilla de la envidia comenzó a decir: ¿Dónde estu-
dió éste? ¿No es el hijo de José? Y nosotros conocemos a
toda su familia, ¿y en qué universidad estudió? Entonces
pretendían que le hiciera un milagro: solamente después
habrían creído. Entonces comenzaron a empujarlo para
tirarlo por un barranco por celos, por envidia.
Pero no se trató de un evento de hace dos mil años atrás,
esto sucede cada día, cada vez que se acoge a alguien
hablando bien el primer día y después siempre menos,
hasta llegar a la habladuría, casi hasta desollarlo. Quien en
una comunidad habla contra un hermano acaba por querer
asesinarlo.
El apóstol Juan nos dice esto: quien en su corazón odia a
su hermano es un homicida. Nosotros estamos acostum-
brados a los chismes, a las habladurías y muchas veces
transformamos a nuestras comunidades y también a
nuestra familia en un infierno en donde se manifiesta
esta forma de criminalidad que lleva a asesinar al
hermano y a la hermana con la lengua.
Para que haya paz en una comunidad, en una familia o
en un país, en el mundo, tenemos que empezar a estar
con el Señor. Porque donde está el Señor no hay envi-
dia, no hay criminalidad, no hay celos, hay hermandad.
Pidamos esto al Señor: nunca asesinar al prójimo con
nuestra lengua y estar con el Señor, como estaremos to-
dos nosotros en el cielo. (Cf Homilía de S.S. Francisco, 2 de septiem-
bre de 2013, en Santa Marta).

BÀI ĐỌC 1: Gr 1,4-5,17- 19 Giêrêmia tự thuật về việc Thiên Chúa gọi ông làm ngôn sứ: Thực ra Giêrêmia không muốn làm ngôn sứ chút nào cả vì ông biết mình không có khả năng, và ông cũng ý
thức rằng ông sẽ gặp rất nhiều chống đối và đau khổ vì nhiệm vụ ấy. Nhưng vì tin tưởng vào sự trợ giúp của Chúa nên ông đã can đảm đáp lại lời Chúa gọi.

BÀI ĐỌC 2: 1 Cr 12,31--13,13 Sau khi giải thích cho tín hữu Côrintô về các đặc sủng nhằm phục vụ cộng đoàn (Chúa nhật trước), Thánh Phaolô nói đến ân sủng cao quý nhất trong mọi ân sủng, đó là Đức Mến. - Đức Mến làm cho các ơn khác có giá trị thực ("Giả như tôi có nói được các thứ tiếng… mà không có đức mến thì tôi cũng chẳng khác gì thanh la phèng phèng, chủm choẹ xoang xoảng"). - Đức Mến cao trọng hơn mọi nhân đức khác ("Hiện nay đức tin, đức cậy, đức mến, cả ba đều tồn tại, nhưng cao trọng hơn cả là Đức Mến")
TUNG HÔ TIN MỪNG: Alleluia, alleluia! Lạy Chúa, lời Chúa là thần trí và là sự sống; Chúa có lời ban sự sống - Alleluia.
PHÚC ÂM: Lc 4,21-30 Đoạn Tin Mừng hôm nay nói về hoạt động của Chúa Giêsu ở Nadarét quê hương Ngài: 1. Ngày Sabát, Ngài vào hội đường, dựa trên đoạn sách Isaia để công bố chương trình hành động của Ngài. Đó là mang Tin Mừng và ơn cứu độ cho những người nghèo khổ. 2. Bài giảng đã gây hứng khởi trong lòng thính giả. Họ thầm mong rằng, vì tình đồng hương, Ngài sẽ ưu tiên làm phép lạ cho họ. Nhưng Ngài đã từ chối, bởi vì Ngài là Đấng cứu độ của mọi người chứ không của riêng ai. 3. Thất vọng, dân Na-darét đã trục xuất Ngài khỏi thành và còn muốn giết Ngài.
Suy Niệm: Ðoạn Tin Mừng hôm nay nói về việc Ðức Giêsu về quê hương mình giảng dạy... Mọi người đều thán phục Ngài vì những lời Ngài giảng thật uy quyền. Nhưng họ không chấp nhận Ngài chỉ vì Ngài là con ông Giuse nghèo khó, thất học. Các khuôn về Ðấng Mê-si-a quyền thế mà họ ngộ nhận khiến họ không thể chấp nhận Ngài. Chúa Giêsu đã dùng Kinh Thánh để thức tỉnh họ, nhưng họ không nghe lại còn thô bạo trục xuất và tính ám hại Ngài. Nhưng giờ Ngài chưa đến, nên Ngài đã ung dung rẽ lối mà đi giữa họ một cách bình thản.
Cầu Nguyện: Lạy Chúa Giêsu, qua bài Tin Mừng hôm nay, chúng con đã nhận ra rằng: con người không thể sung sướng, bình an, hạnh phúc nếu không biết nghĩ tốt cho người khác, và như thế, cũng là không biết chấp nhận chính Chúa. Lạy Chúa, xin hãy biến đổi chúng con trở thành người con ngoan của Chúa, người anh chị em tốt của mọi người. Amen.
