BIOGRAPHIES
William O’Meara has performed at festivals and concert series throughout North and South America, Europe and Russia. His many solo engagements include International Organ Music Festival (Perm, Russia), St. Paul’s Cathedral (London, UK), Harvard University Organ Society (Cambridge, USA), Sao Bento International Organ Festival (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Trnava Organ Days (Slovakia), Warsaw International Festival of Organ Music (Poland), Turin International Organ Festival (Italy), Piccolo Spoleto Festival (Charleston,
USA) as well as hundreds of concerts throughout Canada and the U.S. as soloist and in ensembles. From 1990 to 2003, he toured throughout North America with trumpeter Stuart Laughton under management with Philip Truckenbrod Concert Artists. In 2006 in Toronto he was soloist and accompanist with the renowned German choir RIAS Kammerchor honouring the 75th birthday of Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina, with the composer in attendance. The same year he premiered Paul Frehner’s Lila for two orchestras and organ with Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal and Norway’s BIT20 orchestra. His recordings are frequently broadcast on the American Public Radio program "Pipedreams". O’Meara also has an active career improvising accompaniments on piano and organ for silent films. Among the many groups he has worked with, Cinematheque Ontario, the Toronto International Film Festival, The Toronto Silent Film Festival, Le Giornate del Cinema Muto (Italy), the National Gallery of Canada, Goethe Institute (Toronto) and Pacific Cinematheque (Vancouver). Since 2009, he has been organist at St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica.
Etsuko Kimura, Assistant Concertmaster, joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2007. She appears frequently at concert halls across Canada and the world, leading eminent chamber ensembles, performing as a featured soloist with major international orchestras, and maintaining a full recital calendar. When she is not performing with the TSO, she serves as a guest concertmaster for orchestras in Japan and many other countries.
Ms. Kimura has performed extensively as a soloist, giving frequent recitals and collaborating with many of the world’s greatest musicians, music directors, chamber groups, and orchestras. She has performed as a guest artist with the Budapest Ferenc Erkel Chamber Orchestra and the Szombathely Radio Orchestra in Hungary, as well as with orchestras throughout Japan, including the prestigious Osaka Municipal Symphonic Band. A highly sought-after collaborator, she has appeared on stage with such eminent violinists as Masafumi Hori (Concertmaster, NHK Symphony Orchestra), Toru Yasunaga (former Concertmaster, Berlin Philharmonic), and Tomotada Soh, as well as with violist Nobuo Okada (former Principal Viola, Bamberger Symphoniker-Bayerische Staatsphilharmonie).
Ms. Kimura is a faculty member at Canada’s Interprovincial Music Camp, and gives violin performance and chamber music masterclasses all over the world for middle and high school students. She stands out as a musician who is greatly involved in bringing music to the community: she has participated in the TSO’s various education programmes, and performs regularly at hospitals and other venues where she can use her musical talent to touch lives.
