*** A Note from the Pastor ***

My Brothers and Sisters,

We are sailing through Easter!!! The Ascension will be celebrated next Sunday. Traditionally, Jesus walked the earth in His resurrected body and appeared to His disciples for thirty days before He ascended. Then, ten days later on the 40th day since Passover (when Jesus was crucified), we have Pentecost and the Descent of the Holy Spirit...and the end of the Easter Season. Pentecost literally means the 40th Day! Our readings today are connecting all of these events!!! Jesus told us last week that He is our model...that we must love each other as He loves us! Every family knows that love requires sacrifice...every father and mother show their love through their sacrifices for their children! Jesus loved us by dying for us...and now asks us to be willing to sacrifice for each other! What happens when we recognize how hard it is to follow Christ, to give up the things we want, and to love others? Jesus simply tells us today to keep trying. God is sending the Holy Spirit to do the rest! We give 1%...one step to do what is right...and God will do the other 99%...the Spirit will do the rest!

Sunday Reading Insights

“Christ’s promise at the Last Supper—’Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father and I will make our dwelling with him’—is all that we need to be happy in life. Barnabas and Paul ‘dedicate their lives to the name of our Lord Jesus Christ’ in order to keep and to identify with Christ’s Word in every dimension of their lives. God acknowledges such dedication by ordaining that the names of the twelves Apostles be inscribed on the wall of the heavenly Jerusalem. The same is offered to us who refuse to let our hearts be troubled, but who cling to the name of Christ instead.“
