SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
Already a parishioner? Have you moved, changed phone numbers or email? Contact the parish of-fice so we can stay up-to-date!
CHANGE Lent is all about change and change is usually not easy. In order to change we have to leave something behind. Today we hear about a very old man who decides to answer God’s call. Abram experiences a tremendous amount of change when he leaves everything behind, risking it all for God’s promise. Jesus changes, is transfigured, right before the eyes of his disciples. The Lenten scriptures issue the call for us to change, to be transfigured, so that we, too, will soon share in the glory of God. What is it that the Lord is asking us to leave behind? Are we willing to take the risk for the promise made by God? These questions are at the heart of the Lenten journey of conversion.

FOR YOUR SPECIAL ATTENTION
As a precautionary measure in light of the coronavirus outbreak, we are temporarily suspending the Sign of Peace and distribu-tion of the Most Precious Blood. Moreover, the ushers and priests will be at the door to greet you, but shaking hands will be left to your discretion. Let us all pray for those who have been personally affected by the coronavirus threat throughout the world and to pray for those who are working with the sick or seeking to stem the tide of this infec-tious disease. May God bless you!

“BLESSED BEGINNINGS” On Mar. 11, 1870, Pope Pius IX signed the decree that for-mally established the Diocese of St. Augustine. Join Bishop Felipe Estévez this Wednes-day, Mar. 11, at 6pm at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine for Vespers, fol-
lowed by a presentation by Church historian Fr. Michael McNally on the Diocese’s first two bish-ops, entitled “Blessed Beginnings: The Episcopal Leadership of Augustin Verot and John Moore”.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS Join us for Stations of the Cross each Friday in Lent at 6pm.
LENTEN FISH FRY Our first of six Fridays of serving fish dinners dur-ing Lent will be this Friday, Feb. 28, at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. Cost is $10 for adults.
RCIA RITE OF SENDING/ELECTION, THE SCRUTINIES
This Sunday, Mar. 8, at the 8am Mass, our cate-chumens Monica Cook and Tiffany Minock and candidates Chuck Illi, Carrie Lee, and Kristy Pol-son will publicly state that they are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. We are “sending” them to be accepted by Bishop Estévez at the Rite of Election/Continuing Conversion on Sunday, Mar. 8, at 2pm at the Ca-thedral-Basilica of St. Augustine. The first of three scrutinies will be this coming Saturday, Mar. 14, at the 5pm Mass. The pur-pose of the scrutinies is to help our Elect examine their lives more intensely as they enter their period of purification and enlightenment, the final step towards the Easter sacraments. As the congrega-tion is also examining our own lives during Lent, it forms a common bond between the Elect and our congregation. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

FAITH FORMATION SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT PAGE 5
Join Fr. Briggs during the Wednesdays of Lent as he fa-cilitates the brand new video series
NO GREATER LOVE: A BIBLICAL WALK THROUGH
CHRIST’S PASSION.
This biblical pilgrimage by best-selling author Ed-ward Sri guides us through the last hours of Christ’s life, step-by-step with Jesus from the gar-den of Gethsemane to Mount Calvary. Every step of the way, Old Tes-tament prophecies, messi-anic expectations, biblical symbolism, and historical context shed light on the mystery of Christ’s suffer-ing and death. Experience a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s immeasurable and un-conditional love for us...grow closer to Jesus than you ever have before. Join us this Wednesday, Mar. 11, from 6-7:30 in the Parish Hall.
Please keep all in the RCIA program in your prayers during the Rite of Election at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine this Sunday, Mar. 8.
This coming Saturday, Mar. 14, at the 5pm Mass will be our first scrutiny. Please plan to attend.
Children ages 3–7 are invited to join us for Chil-dren’s Liturgy of the Word every Sunday at 10am!
K–7 students are studying John 4:5-42. This Gospel has many themes, to include finding Jesus in our neighbor and that every believer is called to share the Good News of Jesus. An example is the Samari-tan Woman: She becomes an apostle or missionary to her people. It is through her witnessing that other Samaritans come to believe that Jesus is the Mes-siah. Congratulations to the 26 students who were con-firmed last Saturday. Please continue to pray that they give witness to the Faith.
Salt & Light invites all 6-12th graders to SMCC’s youth group! We meet every Sunday from 6-8pm in the Parish Hall. Members are asked to partici-pate in at least one if not all of the Lenten service projects. If you have any questions, contact Merid-ith at [email protected].
