From the Pastor
Thank you, Fitz, for all you have done for me. Thank
you for forty-five years of faithful service to God’s people in the
Archdiocese. Ad multos annos!
Please con!nue to pray
for all our priests. Please
con!nue to pray that
young men in parishes
everywhere, and
especially at St.
Michael’s, will have
family, friends, and
priests in their lives who
might help them see the
beauty and joy of the
priestly life.
THAT CHRIST MAY DWELL IN YOUR
HEARTS BY FAITH
ORDINATION AND ODE TO A FRIEND
We are grateful for the ordina!on of four new priests to
serve the Archdiocese on Saturday, May 26 (also my ordina!on
anniversary--six years!). Now-Fathers Aric Aamodt, Colin Jones,
Peter Ly, and Ma!hew Shireman are all men I know and am
sure will be wonderful priests. On Thursday of this week, the
priests of the Archdiocese gathered for the tradi!onal “Dinner of
Welcome” in which the ordinands are fêted with an introduc!on
by a soon-to-be-brother priest of their choosing. This priest is
usually one who was instrumental in their voca!onal journey--
either a childhood pastor, a teaching parish supervisor, spiritual
director, or the like. This year’s dinner and the introduc!on of
the new brothers took on a special significance for me by way of
memories from my ordina!on and events that will soon
transpire.
The priest I chose six years ago to introduce me to the
presbyterate (the special church-language name for the group of
priests of the Archdiocese) is Fr. Robert Fitzpatrick, pastor of the
parishes of St. Rose of Lima and Corpus Chris! in Roseville. Prior
to that, Fr. Fitz was the pastor of my home parish, St. John’s in
Li$le Canada, from the !me we moved there when I was four
years old un!l my college years. As I have spoken of and wri$en
of many !mes, Fr. Fitz has been the single most influen!al priest
in my life--and aside from my family themselves, was the closest
collaborator with the Holy Spirit in nourishing my voca!on to the
priesthood. Add to that the fact that we also ended up having a
close friendship over the years that has encompassed numerous
vaca!ons and even a pilgrimage to Italy which we co-led in 2016,
I can say that God has been very good to me in le&ng Fitz be a
such a big part of my life. His joy in the priesthood and serving
God’s people has always been an inspira!on to me. While we are
very different temperamentally, it is a testament to the power of
the Holy Spirit that such friendship and mutual admira!on can
blossom between two people who seek to love the same Lord
with all their hearts.
Fr. Fitz, who was ordained in 1973, will be re!ring July
1, as he has reached the age at which he is permi$ed to do that. I
am gra!fied that he will be succeeded by a good friend of mine
and fellow Companion of Christ, Fr. Marc Paveglio. It is difficult
to fathom that Fitz will no longer be officially in “ac!ve ministry”
--at least in the sense that he will have an official parish
assignment from the Archbishop. But I am sure he will hardly be
absent from the life of the Church--s!ll helping out where
sacramental assistance might be needed. Perhaps I might even
ask him to help out at St. Michael’s one of these days. (CLOSED
CIRCUIT TO FITZ...IF YOU ARE READING THIS--AND I AM QUITE
SURE YOU ARE--I PROMISE TO LEAVE YOU ALONE FOR AT LEAST
A WHILE).
Congrats Fr. Li!le—
6 years since your
Ordination May 26,
2012.
Happy
Anniversary!
We are Blessed to
have you as our
Pastor!

Do You Know?!
In the Old Testament, who was Esau’s father?
Last week: Who was David’s father? Jesse
If you were asked what immediately comes to mind when you
hear the words “Catholic Church”, would you answer “an
in!mate rela!onship with the God who loves me?”
If not, you would do well to read the engaging and
thought-provoking book, “Love Unveiled: The Catholic Faith
Explained.” It explains why such a rela!onship is the reason for
everything the Church does and teaches. Professor Edward Sri
will show you how all the pieces of the Catholic faith, including
the most baffling ones, fit together to make one beau!ful
mosaic of God’s love for us and for our own par!cipa!on in that
all-encompassing love.
Using the Catechism of the Catholic Church as his i!nerary,
Sri will walk you through the all the important aspects of the
Catholic Church – what Catholics believe about God and the
difference it should make in life. Along the way he addresses
such o-en-heard ques!ons as:
Why do I need the Church – can’t I be spiritual on my own?
Isn’t one religion just as good as another?
How is the death of a man two thousand years ago relevant
for my life today?
Why does the Church talk so much about morality?
Is it really our responsibility to care for the poor – doesn’t
God help those who help themselves?
Why do Catholics and Protestants disagree? Must Catholics
worship Mary and always obey the Pope?
More than an intellectual enterprise, this work is also a deep
spiritual reflec!on and a prac!cal guide to living out our faith in
Christ. It aims to form both the head and the heart, not only
helping us to understand Jesus and his plan of salva!on, but
inspiring us to love God and our neighbor be$er.

BeFriender Ministry
BeFriender Ministry is rooted in the Chris!an
bap!smal call to ministry. Lay ministers
embody the caring presence of God and of
the faith community.
Throughout its history, the heart of
BeFriender Ministry has remained the same:
God is present in every encounter with another person.
Ac"ve listening and a nonjudgmental a#tude are
cri"cal to being present with another person and truly
hearing with empathy the other’s story. Pastoral care
is about caring, not curing.
If you think you or a loved one might benefit, from the
presence of a BeFriender, please contact Do&e Knutson in the
parish office, 651-463-5224.

9:00 AM-12:00PM
Help is s!ll needed for our last “Spring Cleaning” task coming
up on June 2nd
when we will be gathering to Clean the Pews
(rescheduled from April 14).
If you are able to help for any length of !me that morning it
would be much appreciated. The task, though not difficult, will
take a large number of volunteers to be successful. Please
contact Do&e with any ques!ons, and thank you again all of
your help as we care for our beau!ful Church.
1ST FRIDAY ADORATION
June 1 is our next 9-2-9 Adora!on

contempla!on with Our Lord between 9AM
and 9PM this coming Friday.
Prayer Shawl Ministry Meeting
The next Prayer Shawl Ministry mee!ng
will be held on Wednesday, June 6,
6:30PM at Connie Fifarek’s home.
Many people are in need of prayer. The prayer shawls are for
those who are in special need of being “wrapped” in prayer
and have encountered death of a loved one, serious or
chronic illness, surgery, emo!onal trauma, or deployment.
The shawl will be a reminder that the recipient is being li-ed
up in prayer.
Anyone who is interested in this ministry is welcome to a$end
– we can never have too many kni$ers/crocheters! Sample
pa$erns and prayers are available. If you have any ques!ons
about this ministry, please contact Pa$y in the parish office.
For those who may seek healing of body, mind, or spirit there
are prayer shawls that have been blessed in the Gathering
Space. Please feel free to help yourself to a prayer shawl or
for a friend in need.

Our mission is clear: to be a welcoming Catholic community
centered in the Eucharist, invi!ng all to live the Gospel and grow
in faith. I am thankful to be part of a parish family that is ac!vely
involved in its mission and ministries, and one that is poised to
grow in vitality.
To be able to support this mission, and to have a fi&ng house in
which to celebrate the Eucharist on which we are centered,
almost two decades ago we embarked on building a new church.
The debt from that effort was well on its way to being re!red
when I arrived nearly three years ago as your pastor. As we all
know, unforeseen needs in the last few years impeded the final
resolu!on of our debt, despite the humbling generosity of so
many members of our community.
The current Threshold to Our Future Campaign will conclude
June 30, 2018. To con!nue to pay our mortgage debt we are
asking everyone to prayerfully consider extending their current
contribu!ons. If your pledge has been paid over !me using the
Threshold to Our Future envelopes, we ask you to ponder using
the NEW Debt Reduc"on envelope, which will be in your
monthly packet of envelopes beginning July 2018. If you are an
EFT giver for your building fund contribu!ons please return your
signed card if you plan to con!nue giving to the Debt Reduc!on
fund using EFT.
Many blessings,
Fr. Benjamin Li$le
