Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a

great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that

hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with persever-

ance the race marked out for us…”

Greetings Friends,

As we continue in our “Live by Faith” year, the 11

th chapter of Hebrews is a

great place for us to spend some time. It is a long list of what has happened throughout Biblical history because of faith in God.

The “great cloud of witnesses” from Hebrews 12 (mentioned above) refers to the people in Hebrews 11. Their faith serves as a witness to us. Their faith, in many ways, is cheering us on as we run our own races of faith.

Much of what was mentioned in Hebrews 11 would have been consid-ered impossible (building an ark, raising the dead, conceiving a child after the time of fertility had ended, etc).

Much of what God does through us, we often label as “impossible”…until God does it.

Charles Kettering was head of research for General Motors from 1920 to 1947. He wrote this: “When I was research head of General Motors and wanted a problem solved, I'd place a table outside the meeting room with a sign: Leave slide rules here. If I didn't do that, I'd find someone reaching for his slide rule. Then he'd be on his feet saying, "Boss, you can't do it."

We often approach things the same way. We look at our limited resources or lim-ited abilities or limited time and say, “impossible.”

Hebrews 11 is a great reminder to us that faith makes all things possible.

So as we enter this month of November, read Hebrews 11. Spend some time with it. Look at what God has already done. Then read Hebrews 12:1-2 and picture these heroes of faith cheering you on in what God is calling you to do.

Grace and Peace, Pastor Bill Hugo

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATIONS

Worship services for Nov. 4-5 will concentrate on the idea that while faith can’t begin to fully comprehend heaven, it give us glimpses and tastes of heaven. A part of that “glimpse” will include reading the names of the faithful departed from the past year. If you have a loved one you’d like remembered, please contact me or Ruth Petersen by Nov. 2.

REMEMBERING VETERANS

Another remembrance during the month of November will be of veterans of our coun-try’s armed forces. A special power point of photos of these veterans will be a part of worship on Nov. 11-12. Please submit photos to me or Ruth Petersen, along with the veteran’s name, branch of military, their years of service or conflict in which they served by Nov. 9. All photos will be returned.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES In October, the children focused on the Think.Act.Be chapters on Salvation and Identity. Salvation: An exploding stick snake (and dominoes) helped show us how one sin can lead to others. However we have a loving God who came to save us from our sin! Crushing candy and re-melting it into a cross helped us understand how sin crush-es our relationship with God, but that rela-tionship was restored through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Identity: Who am I? Does it matter? Yes! God knows you (everything), and loves you anyway, and he knows your name! Explor-ing who we are, the good and the bad, and realizing that Jesus still loves me and died/rose for me, is the goal of these workshops. Name critters and movement workshops helped to get these points across. Thanks for those who used their Faithful Feet Serving in Children’s Ministries in October- Sarai Kretschman, Candy Nelson, Karrie Kikeh, Jesse Davies, Sr., Mike Alm, Katie Landwehr, Lisa Neaderhiser, Tim Naber, Lynn McDonald, Teresa Anderson, Brad Cornelius, Troy Wagner, Julie Sventek, Marilyn Kirk
