Now the question comes, why should teachers do research? Why, indeed, when teachers are already busy teaching and managing their classrooms?

Becoming a teacher is not just limited to passing on content knowledge to a group of kids. It has many challenges which an individual faces when he or she is a professional teacher. Under such circumstances, certain qualities help the teachers to cope with the challenges of being a teacher. A teacher needs to be dignified, well-informed and patient. A proper training course for teachers equips the teacher with the various professional skills that are necessary for good class management while simultaneously teaching them methods to develop these skills in themselves and the students.

Aims/Objectives

National Seminar cum Workshop on Research Methodology

Background

Dr. Hairon Salleh (2014) argued that research can help teachers in facing new challenges and become better practitioners. He made the analogy of classroom is just like a black box. So many inputs, such as teaching strategies, teaching resources, curricula and assessment tasks are earnestly fed into the box, and it is hoped that what comes out will be positive student learning outcomes. But what is happening in the black box? For outsiders such as parents and the general public, it’s often difficult to assess.

Teaching is an ever-evolving process. It doesn’t stop after earning a degree and starting a career. Through continuing education, career-minded individuals can constantly improve their skills and become more proficient at their jobs. In the field of school education administration, it is particularly important for school administrators to encourage teachers to pursue professional development, not only to ensure the best learning outcomes for their students but also to be more effective and satisfied in various other aspects of their work. Nowadays teacher training programs are designed keeping in mind various factors, such as the basic education level of the candidate and the level of education the candidate wants to teach – Montessori, primary, secondary classes etc.

High quality teaching is now widely acknowledged to be the most important school-level factor influencing student achievement. This in turn has focused attention on the

At a time when virtually every government around the world is asking how it can improve the quality of its teaching force, the British Educational Research Association (BERA) has come to consider what contribution research can offer to that improvement.

Title of the National Seminar

If we observe the education scenario of last few decades then we see the rapid changes in it and behind each of such changes, lots of researches were done. Every research is based on its strong research methodologies. Research by teachers has become increasingly recognised as a legitimate professional activity in the 1990s.

Details of the National Seminar cum Workshop

Details of National Seminar cum Workshop The seminar will be divided into two parts namely, seminar cum workshop and paper presentation. The presentation session will be composed of one chairperson, one co-chairperson and the paper presenters. The inaugural session will be held in the Central Sabha Mancha of the College premises.

In the two days seminar cum workshop session, one and half day will be spent by Dr. V. Mohankumar, the Hon’ble Director, IAEA, New Delhi to deliver his speech in the workshop model regarding the fundamentals of the subject. Then the participants will present their research papers in different concurrent session

The Inquiry aims to shape debate, inform policy and influence practice by investigating the contribution of research in teacher education and examining the potential benefits of research-based skills and knowledge for improving school performance and student outcomes.

The priority for all stakeholders (Government, national agencies, schools, universities and teachers’ organisations) should be to work together to create a national strategy for teacher education and professional learning that reflects the principles of ‘research-informed clinical practice’. Rather than privileging one type of institutional approach, these principles should be applied to all institutional settings and organisations where teacher education and professional learning takes place.

importance of teacher education, from initial training and induction for beginner teachers, to on-going professional development to help update teachers’ knowledge, deepen their understanding and advance their skills as expert practitioners. Policy-makers around the world have approached the task of teacher preparation and professional development in different ways, reflecting their distinctive values, beliefs and assumptions about the nature of professional knowledge and how and where such learning takes place. At a time when teacher education is under active development across the globe, an important question for all those seeking to improve the quality of teaching and learning is how to boost the use of research to inform the design, structure and content of teacher education programmes.

There has been a strong focus on the use of data to inform teaching and instruction over the past 20 years. There now needs to be a sustained emphasis on creating ‘research-rich’ and ‘evidence-rich’ (rather than simply ‘data-rich’) schools and classrooms. Teachers need to be equipped to interrogate data and evidence from different sources, rather than just describing the data or trends in attainment.
