Mission Statement We, the community of the faithful of St. Mary of Carleton Place, inspired by the
living Spirit of Christ, join together in concretely living out in our daily life the message of salvation proclaimed by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. From the mission received from our Baptism in the Risen Christ, we will endeavour to bring
his message of salvation to the world around us. Therefore, we will try to enrich
our parish community through our liturgical celebrations and regular prayer meetings, to deepen the faith life of our
community through Catechetical programs for children, youth and adults, to raise an
awareness of justice and peace in the minds and hearts of all people, and instill in all members of our Parish community a caring and loving disposition toward the poor, the sick and the needy of our wider community and of the world. Our parish
life and mission are dedicated to the patronage of Mary, Mother of Mercy, the true icon of our loving and merciful God.

The position of the Assembly of
Catholic Bishops of Ontario is that
publicly funded Catholic schools in
our province have provided a family
life curriculum consistent with our
faith for more than 30 years. The
Fully Alive Program, sponsored and
developed with the approval of the

Parish Day of Renewal
Dear Parishioners,
Soon after I resumed my duties as the Pastor of our parish, I constituted a
Pastoral Team comprised of some members of our parish. The objective of
this group is to assist me in the task of running our parish especially in the
area of creating a pastoral vision that will help our parish community to
become a missionary parish. I believe that the task of growing in faith is an
ongoing exercise.
To this regard, our Pastoral Team has had several meetings in the last year.
We have generated some ideas and possibilities and it is now time to swing
into action. To this effect the Pastoral Team has identified the need to kick
start this process by organizing a Parish Day of Renewal for our
Parishioners especially the different individuals and groups that are actively
involved in the leadership and smooth running of our parish.
This day of renewal will give us an opportunity to reflect on our journey so
far as a parish. We will be able to identify our challenges, problems,
opportunities, and prospects as a missionary parish. We will look at the
existing pastoral culture with the view of maintaining, adjusting or creating
a new pastoral culture. At the end, together we will be able to create a
pastoral vision and culture that will enrich our common heritage of faith.
To assist us with this exercise, I have asked Fr. Pierre-Alain Giffard, a
Professor of Practical Theology (Ministry) at Saint Paul University Ottawa
to facilitate this parish Day of Renewal. Fr. Giffard is well known for his
work in the area of parish renewal. This special event will take place on
Sat. Nov.17, 2018 from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm at our parish Church Hall.
We have fifteen spots available for this event. Anyone interested in
participating should please sign up at the back of the Church as soon as
possible. I have also asked the different groups in our parish to send in
representatives on that day.
Thank you for the good wok you do for our parish. May God bless you all
abundantly as you continue to work in his vineyard.
Yours in Service,
Fr. Cosmas Ajawara

An Invitation to Practice Christian Meditation in a Group
Are you a meditator or interested in learning about Christian
meditation; and, are you interested in practicing meditation once
weekly in a group at St. Mary’s Church? If so, you are welcome to
submit your name to the church office. Also, at the conclusion of
Masses on Sat. Nov. 10 & Sun. Nov. 11 a sign up will be on table in
foyer and someone will answer your questions re: meditation.
Meditation is one of the lesser known spiritual disciplines practiced by
Roman Catholics, yet, it is a deeply effective way to experience
communion with God, oneself and our fellow human – beings.
Priests’ Retirement Fund Parish Collection
The annual collection for the Priests’ Retirement Fund of the
Archdiocese of Kingston will take place on the weekend of Nov 10-
11, 2018. The fund provides our elderly & infirm priests with a
modest income in their retirement. This is an opportunity for all of
us to show our gratitude for the dedicated service of our priests.
Thank you for your continuing support of this important collection.
