CATHOLIC
CHARITIES
APPEAL
The returns continue to be quite encouraging! As of this
past Tuesday, we had received a total of $97,175.48
from 339 donors. Of that number, 71 were able to give
this year who were not able to do so last year. Of the
remaining 268 donors, 164 were able to increase their
donations! We want to thank those who made donations -
it is another indication (amongst many) of the generosity of
the good folks here at St. Mary’s. I do want to encourage
everyone to consider making a donation to this important
endeavor. The proceeds of the Appeal go to fund the many
apostolates and agencies that minister to thousands of folks
in need. They do this fine work in our name. If you have
misplaced the contribution card, they can be found at the
entrances of the Church. Thank you for your consideration
of this request!

OUR LOSS
FR. JASON BEING REASSIGNED
Bishop da Cunha has asked Fr. Jason to be the new
chaplain at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. In
these days of reduced number of priests, transfers of
younger priests are occurring more often and in shorter
time spans. Fr. Jason’s language skills will be an asset to
his ministry at the hospital. While we are sorry to see him
leave (it is our loss) we understand that the Bishop needs to
provide for the care of the souls throughout the diocese.
His transfer is effective June 24, 2015. We are grateful for
Fr. Jason’s ministry among us and we assure him of our
continued prayers. We will have an open house for him on
Sunday, June 21, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Parish
Center. This will be an opportunity to say thank you for
his ministry and to wish him well in his new assignment.

NEW PRINCIPAL
I am happy to announce that Bishop Edgar da Cunha has
appointed Mr. Matthew Bourque as the new principal of
Saint Mary’s School. Mr. Bourque is currently the
Assistant Principal of All Saints Catholic School in New
Bedford. He was the unanimous choice of the Search
Committee which was comprised of parents, a teacher, a
parishioner unaffiliated with the school, Mrs. Simpson, Fr.
Jason and me. Mr. Bourque is a graduate of Saint Anselm
Collage and received a Master of Arts degree from
Providence College. He is a bright, dynamic, faith-filled
young man who loves children. We are thrilled that he has
accepted the position, and we look forward to his
beginning his duties in July.

DAN AND DANIELLE DAVEY
HEAD WEST!
The sad news keeps on coming! You may remember that
Dan Davey got married last summer. His wife, Danielle, is
from the Portland Oregon area. After living here
(Attleboro) for the last year, they decided that they wanted
to return to Oregon. Dan has secured a job at a college in
Portland teaching music, so they will be leaving here at the
end of July.
While we will certainly miss Dan’s very capable talents
here, we are supposed to be a family-oriented organization.
So as much as we want to tie Dan to the organ in the loft,
we need to let him and Danielle go. We want to thank Dan
for the beautiful music that he has brought to us for the
past nine years and for all that he has done for the parish.
Dan and Danielle are on staff at a music graduate program
on the West Coast from mid-June to mid-July. So we will
have an opportunity in later July to thank him and wish
him well before he leaves.
I am working with Dan to post the opening on the
appropriate web-sites so that we can hopefully have a
person in place before he leaves. Let us keep Dan and
Danielle, and the search process in our prayers.

HIGH SCHOOL
SENIOR MASS
All high school seniors should have
received a letter last week regarding
the Senior Mass. As a parish community, we are happy to
celebrate this important milestone and invite all high
school seniors to attend the 9AM Mass this Sunday, June
7th. If graduates have cap and gown on that day, please
bring it so that you can process in wearing it. If not, please
come to join in the procession. I think it is important that
we as a parish community come together to pray for you,
and there is no better way to do that than by gathering
around the Lord’s Table to worship Him at Mass. We also
want to convey to you our best wishes for your future
endeavors. If you are able to attend please notify the
Parish Office at [email protected] by Wednesday,
June 3, so that we will reserve enough pews for you. We
hope you are able to join us. —Fr. Mike

a year. In retirement, Bob and Mary hope to relocate to
New Mexico near their son and family.
We want to express appreciation to Bob for his years of
service, so he will be included in the open house that we
are having for Fr. Jason on Sunday, June 21, 2015 in the
Parish Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. We hope folks will be

OUR TITHING FOR THE MONTH OF MAY:
ECCLESIASTICAL STUDENT AND CLERGY
EDUCATION FUND As a stewardship parish, we take
up only one collection at Mass and tithe 7 3/4% of it to a
particular diocesan or national collection. This month, we
lend our support to the Ecclesiastical Student and Clergy
Education Fund. This diocesan collection supports the
students in seminary formation who are preparing to serve
the diocese as priests. In addition, programs for the
ongoing formation of the clergy of the diocese are made
possible by this collection. If you wish to contribute to this
cause beyond our parish tithing commitment, place your
donation in an envelope marked “Students and Clergy
Formation.” Thank you.

opportunity to talk to others who have been called to the
contemplative way of life. The upcoming weekend is
offered to women aged 18-40 and is scheduled June 19-21.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: SHARING THE
WORD OF GOD IN OUR PARISH FAMILY AND
OUR HOMES It is wonderful to hear how many families
are using the “Question of the Week” to discuss the
readings at Mass on the way home from church or around
the dinner table. How about trying it with your family?
Read Sunday’s Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20
Question for Adults: As each of us is called and sent by
Christ, how have you incorporated this into your own life,
whether married, single, in religious life, or ordained?
Question for Youth: How often do you think about God as
Trinity? How do you relate to each member of the Trinity?
Question for Children: Why do you think Catholics make
“The Sign of the Cross” when we pray?
