I saw quite a few of you last week when I was dropping off your new workbooks, it was so lovely to see you! If you haven’t received your books yet, don’t worry, it is on its way! With your books, you will have also received a letter from me and it has the Year 3 email address on it. Remember to keep sending me pictures or letters so I can keep in touch with you. I can see lots of you have been busy on TT Rockstars this week. Well done! I will announce the winner of last week’s tournament on the next newsletter. Who will win, the boys or the girls? Week beginning: 4th May 2020

Hello Year 3!

I hope you enjoyed another week of home learning!

I saw quite a few of you last week when I was dropping off your new

workbooks, it was so lovely to see you! If you haven’t received your books yet,

don’t worry, it is on its way! With your books, you will have also received a

letter from me and it has the Year 3 email address on it. Remember to keep

sending me pictures or letters so I can keep in touch with you.

I can see lots of you have been busy on TT Rockstars this week. Well done! I

will announce the winner of last week’s tournament on the next newsletter.

Monday Maths task 20 minutes Timetable Rockstars

Reading task 20 minutes on Lexia

Writing task This week we are going to recap some of the basic word types. We will start today by looking at nouns. Today we will be looking at common nouns and proper nouns. Complete page 4 of your Grammar, punctuation and spelling workbook. When you’ve finished write down as many nouns as you can think of in 3 minutes and them sort them into a table.

Spelling task Copy out this week’s spellings in your best handwriting 3 times. I’ve now attached your spelling sheet onto the website.

Tuesday Maths task In your workbook complete the Year 2 objectives test, this is to get used to the style of the questions in this book. This is on pages 2-5. If you finish this quite quickly, spend some time on TT Rockstars.

Reading task Reading comprehension In your comprehension workbook read the text ‘Harriet’s Hare’ and complete the questions on the page next to it. This is on pages 2 and 3.

Writing task Today we will continue working on word types. Today we will be looking at adjectives. Complete page 5 of your workbook. Once you have finished, see the extension task that I’ve included in the newsletter.

Spelling task Create spelling pyramids for this week’s spellings.

Wednesday Maths task Today you are going to be working on place value. Complete pages 6-7 in your workbook. Once you have finished this, choose 2 challenges from the ‘Chilli challenge’ cards that are on the website. 1 chilli – easy, 2 chillies – medium, 3 chillies – hard. Make sure you challenge yourself!

Reading task 15 minutes on Lexia

Writing task Today we are going to look at verbs. Complete pages 8 and 9 in your workbook. See your extension task that is included in this newsletter.

Spelling task Practise your spellings on https://spellingframe.co.uk

Thursday Maths task We are going to continue with place value in your workbooks. Today you are going to complete pages 8 and 9. Once you have finished this, choose 2 different challenges from the ‘Chilli challenge’ cards that are on the website. 1 chilli – easy, 2 chillies – medium, 3 chillies – hard. Make sure you challenge yourself!

Writing task Write a diary entry for yesterday. Make sure you include verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs. In a different colour, underline each of the word types. E.g. I quickly put on my comfortable clothes. In my sentence the adjective was red, the noun was purple, the verb was put and the adverb was quickly.

Spelling task Get someone at home to test you on your spellings. If you get one wrong, have another look at it to see where you think you went wrong.

Curriculum Learning Tasks - Aim to complete each task over the week

Computing: This week your computing task is ‘research skills’. This is linked to your Geography so look in the

Geography section to find the task.

Geography Research some landmarks in the county you researched last week. Can you sketch this landmark?

Now find out some facts about this landmark. What is it? Where is it? When was it built/discovered? Who built/discovered it? Can you find any other interesting facts about it?

Science: Look at the BBC Bitesize website and complete the science lesson:

Physical Education:

Pick a ‘Joe Wick’s Workout’ which you can carry out anywhere at home. Could you aim to complete one of these short workouts every day?

Which medal can you achieve?

Bronze – 6 adjectives

Silver – 9 adjectives

Gold – 12 or more adjectives!
