Comments from Deacon Dale Brown Mass Intentions For The Week
From Gods fullness we receive mercy. This is
something we should all know. In a homily, St
Bernard of Clairvaux said that when we look at the
Baby Jesus, it’s as though God the Father sent a
purse full of His mercy. It was a very small purse,
but it was very full. Jesus is that purse of God’s
mercy. And we need to receive the money of God’s
mercy before we can offer Him anything in return.
The gospel we this Sunday tells us that the wise men
opened their treasures. They opened their hearts to
receive Christ’s mercy. From His fullness, we have
received mercy. Before the wise men could offer
anything, they had to open their treasures. They had
to open their history to Jesus; they had to allow His
mercy to fill their hearts with joy. They had to
experience, as the psalm today put it, that “God shall
rescue the poor when he cries out, and the afflicted
when he has no one to help him… The lives of the
poor He shall save.” God’s mercy reveals His
reverence for the human person – for each human
person - created in His image and likeness. We need
to experience this again and again in our lives. When
we experience the merciful love of Jesus, it becomes a
gift for others too. We’re able to help them
experience the transforming power of God’s mercy,
and share it with others. Like the wise men, we have
received mercy from the fullness of God’s love. Pass
it on to everyone you meet! Prayers requested for . . . . Adams, Grant Bargiachi, Charlie Beare Family Bell, Carmen Browning, Geneva Burrow, Susan Burton, Bobbie Childress, Dale Crews, Scarlett Davis, Heather Day, Barbara Durning, Maureen Elam, Teresa Englert, Joshua Faulkner, Janice Flynn, Maggie Joy Follis, Ron Franks, Grayson Frost, Betty Graning, Dee Gyrenge, Lorraine Harmon, Sherri Hercules, Jennifer Holmes, Wayne Hudson, Anne Hulderman, Bobbie Hughes, Roger Jarvis, Cathy Jones, Brian Jones, Christine King, Helen Klees, LaVerne Latta, Jennie Lifsey, Daron Lipe, Fitts Lisak, Mary Londino, Joe Lycette, Missi Marshall, Phyllis McCulley, Larry Meriwether, John Mitchelson, Joe Mooney, Mike Nunn, Marvin O’Connor, Mary Okolo, Stacey Okolo, Joseph Plunk, Shelby Ragan, Hutson Ragan, Phillip Regenhold, Lynn Sanders, James Smith, Mike Smith, Pat Speechly, Jean Speechly, Mark Solberg, Charles Soto Corpuz, Victor Sortet, Mary Sparks, Don Tatman, Woody Thompson, Alta Thompson, Robert Tims, Linda Townsend, Richard Turner, Raymond Wood, Debra White, Peggy Wyatt, Sherri

January 6, the EPIPHANY, marks the end of the 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: December 25-January 5.
There is an English Christmas carol, THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS. From 1558 to 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song, for young Catholics. It had two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning, known only to members of the Catholic Church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember. 1 True Love – Jesus Christ 2 turtle doves - the Old Testament & the New Testament. 3 French hens stood for faith, hope and love. 4 calling birds - 4 Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. 5 golden rings – first five books of the Old Testament 6 geese a laying – 6 days of creation 7 swans a-swimming – 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit 8 maids a-milking – 8 Beatitudes 9 ladies dancing – 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit 10 lords a leaping – 10 commandments 11 pipers a-piping – 11 apostles 12 drummers drumming – 12 points of belief of the Apostles Creed
NOTABLE QUOTABLE: “You are never too old to set another
goal or to dream a new dream” (C. S. Lewis – British writer and lay theologian – 1898 – 1963)
“Jesus Christ is our joy; come, let us sing to him in praise, alleluia!"
- taken from the Magnificat
On this feast day of the Holy Family and as we approach the last day of the year let us give profound thanksgiving and praise for the extraordinary gift of our salvation in Jesus Christ.
Come sing with us in 2019! Talk to any choir member or musician. We welcome all voices! Happy New Year!
