Who are the "Trinitarians"?

It is a gang that appears in the late 1980s in the prisons

of New York, specifically on Rikers Island, a penal center

in New York where the Dominican prisoners joined to

protect themselves from the attacks of the other inmates.

Then they expanded throughout the prison system and

committed crimes behind bars related to the use of

weapons and distribution of narcotics. It is considered

the largest Dominican gang in the country, which are

also found in South America, the Caribbean and Europe.

It is said that the name is due to a tribute to a secret soci-

ety called "La Trinitaria", was founded by Juan Pablo

Duarte in 1838. Its purpose was to help the Dominican

Republic become independent. The word trinitaria asso-

ciates it to God, Homeland and Freedom.

They are identified by the green color that is used, num-

ber 7, the necklaces have a very specific number and col-

or of beads: 16 red, 16 blue, 5 white (the tones of the Do-

minican flag). The machete is his weapon, they do not

use any kind of brutal and bloodthirsty weapons, said

the "boss" of the organization. They say that they have

no allies, but rivals.

Pretend that it is 1918. You believe that this afternoon a man driving a colorful wagon will be coming to visit your town. He will step up onto a platform and make this an-nouncement with a certain gusto: “Ladies and gentlemen, how much is your health worth? It’s priceless, right? Indeed, Ladies and Gents, and now for just fifty pennies, you can have a bottle of “Nature’s True Remedy.” This potion will succeed where doctors have failed. Only Nature can truly heal, and I have Nature right here in this little bottle. My secret formula, from God’s own laboratory, the Earth itself, will cure rheumatism, cancer, diabetes, baldness, bad breath, and curvature of the spine.”

Google offers you a lot of similar speeches made by the self-important salesmen in the days of the old time travelling medicine shows. Fast forward to today, and except for the modern updating, this old-fashioned scam has its counterpart. The lead story of the June 2018 issue of “Consumer Reports” magazine urges its readers to “protect yourself from scams” and goes on to list seven of them.

¿Quiénes son los “Trinitarios”? Es una pandilla que aparece a finales de la década de 1980 en las cárceles de Nueva York, específicamente en Rikers Island, un centro penal de Nueva York donde los presos dominicanos se unieron para protegerse de los ataques de los demás reclusos. Luego se expandieron por todo el sistema de prisiones y cometieron delitos tras las rejas relacionados con el uso de armas y distri-bución de narcóticos. Es considerada la pandilla domi-nicana más grande del país, que también se encuentran en Sudamérica, el Caribe y Europa. Se dice que el nombre se debe a un homenaje a una so-ciedad secreta llamada “La Trinitaria”, fue fundada por Juan Pablo Duarte en 1838. Tenía como propósito ayudar a que la Republica Dominicana fuera indepen-diente. La palabra trinitaria la asocian a Dios, Patria y Libertad. Se identifican por el color verde que se usa, el número 7 los collares llevan un número y color de cuentas muy específico: 16 rojas, 16 azules, 5 blancas (los tonos de la bandera dominicana). El machete es su arma, no usan ningún tipo de armas de brutales y sanguinarios, dijo el “jefe” de la organización. Dicen ellos mismos que ellos no tienen aliados, sino rivales.

Imagina que es 1918. Crees que esta tarde un hombre conduciendo un vagón colorido vendrá a visitar tu ciudad. Subirá a una plataforma y hará este anuncio con cierto entusiasmo: "Damas y caballeros, ¿cuánto vale su salud? No tiene precio, ¿verdad? De hecho, Damas y Ca-balleros, y ahora por solo cincuenta centavos, puedes tener una botella de "Nature's True Remedy". Esta poción tendrá éxito donde los doctores hayan fallado. Solo la naturaleza puede sanar verdaderamente, y yo tengo la nat-uraleza aquí mismo en esta pequeña botella. Mi fórmula secreta, del propio laboratorio de Dios, la Tierra misma, curará el reumatismo, el cáncer, la diabetes, la calvicie, el mal aliento y la curvatura de la columna vertebral ".

Google le ofrece una gran cantidad de discursos similares hechos por los vendedores auto-importantes en los días de los espectáculos de medicina de viajes en el tiempo. Avance rápido hasta hoy, y a excepción de la actualización moderna, esta estafa pasada de moda tiene su contraparte. La historia principal de la edición de junio de 2018 de la revista "Consumer Re-ports" insta a sus lectores a "protegerse de las estafas" y pasa a enumerar siete de ellos.

La gente de la ciudad de Nazaret tenía un escep-ticismo similar sobre los reclamos de curación cuando maliciosamente clasificaban a Jesús co-mo no mejor que un fraude. ¿Por qué? Porque él era un "chico local".

EN EL ESPÍRITU DE SAINT JUNIPERO El Obispo Robert McElroy de la Diócesis de San Diego llamó a Junípero Serra (1713-1784) una figura "fundacional" de California. Sin embargo, no todos admiran a Se-rra. Para algunos, Junípero Serra es sinónimo de los resultados negativos del colonialismo español, aunque el registro histórico demuestra lo contrario. La Iglesia recaudó 2.420 documentos —-7.500 páginas en total — de los escritos de Serra, 5.000 páginas de materiales escritos sobre él de aquellos que lo conocían y testimonios de personas inspiradas por su vida. Como el Papa Francisco compartió en la homilía de la canonización de Junípero Serra el 23 de septiembre de 2015: "Hoy, como él, podemos decir: ¡Adelante! ¡Sigamos avanzando! ". Su vida puede ayudar a uno a proclamar el Evangelio con un corazón alegre, en medio de los muchos desafíos. El gobierno de España quería mantener a Rusia y Gran Bretaña fuera de las tierras que reclamaban, por lo que organizaron una expedición, con la intención de poblar lo que ahora es el estado de California con los ciudadanos españoles. La Expedición Sagrada tenía cinco destacamentos: tres por mar y dos por tierra. El padre Junípero Serra salió de Loreto, Baja California, por tierra el 28 de marzo y llegó a la bahía de San Diego el 1 de julio de 1769. IN THE SPIRIT OF SAINT JUNIPERO

Bishop Robert McElroy of the Diocese of San Diego called Junipero Serra ( 1713-1784) a “foundational” figure” of California. Not everyone admires Serra, though. To some Junipero Serra is synonymous with the negative outcomes of Spanish co-lonialism, though the historical record proves otherwise. The Church collected 2,420 documents —7,500 pages total— of Serra’s writings, 5,000 pages of materi-als written about him from those who knew, and testimony of people inspired by his life. As Pope Francis shared in the homily at Junipero Serra’s canonization on September 23, 2015: “Today, like him, may we be able to say: Foward! Let’s keep moving foward!” His life can help one to proclaim the Gospel with a joyful heart, amid the many challenges. Saint Junipero Serra traversed an estimated 24,000 miles to share the Gospel message, some of it walking and in great pain. Saint Junipero Serra came from humble beginnings. Born and raised in Petra, Mallorca, Spain, he responded to God’s call and was ordained a priest in the Franciscan order in 1737. From 1740-1749 he lived a comfortable life as a univer-sity professor; but he discerned, or recognized, that it was not the life God was calling him to and in years he served the Christian Indians north of Mexico City. In 1769, he finally was given the chance to do what he wanted to do for so long, be a missionary priest to the gentile. The government of Spain wanted to keep Russia and Britain out of the lands they claimed, so they organized an expedition, intent on populating what is now the state of California with Spanish citizens. The Sacred Expedition had five detach-ments—three by sea and two by land. Father Junipero Serra left Loreto, Baja California, by land on March 28 and reached San Diego Bay on July 1, 1769. In 1776, 240 settlers traveled from Mexico to colonize San Francisco. They were surrounded by an estimated 300,000 Indians. The Spaniard never came into contact with the vast majority of the independent Indians who lived outside the Spanish sphere of influence. In 1790 just over two decades after Serra founded the first mission in present day California at San Diego, 11 missions and 4 presidios had been constructed. By the time the last mission closed it’s doors in 1836, due to the Secularization Law passed in 1834 by the Mexican Congress, 142 Franciscan priests had ministered in Alta California. Only two of these priests were killed at the hands of natives (Luis Jayme at San Diego in 1775 and Andres Quintana at Santa Cruz in 1812) How is God calling you to share His joy with other? Invite Saint Junipero Serra on your journey to discern how you can be, as Pope Benedict XVI put it in God is Love, “fountains of living water in the midst of a thirsting world.”
