LIGHT OF THE WORLD RETREAT WEEKEND

at ST. MARY’S PARISH

MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND SAVE THE DATES

NOVEMBER 15-18, 2019

Summer is a good time to step back and reflect on the past year.

But it’s not too early to look ahead to the Fall.

Over 90 St. Mary’s parishioners have participated in one of our Light of the World Retreats over the past two years. We hope you will join us this coming year.

The Light of the World parish retreat gives parishioners the opportunity to grow in their faith together. The experience helps people to live the Catholic Christian life with more zeal and enthusiasm. The retreat weekend will take place from Fri-day evening through Sunday here at St. Mary’s. Unlike most retreat, however, participants return to their homes each night. Men & women attend the same retreat.

LETTER TO A SUFFERING CHURCH

A BISHOP SPEAKS ON THE SEXUAL ABUSE CRISIS Have you been feeling hurt, angry, or demoralized about the sexu-al abuse crisis plaguing the Catholic Church? Our parish wants to help, and that’s why we’ve ordered 500 copies of a new book for our parishioners. It’s titled Letter to a Suffering Church: A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis by Bishop Robert Barron, the auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles and the director of Word on Fire. We are all very well aware of the horrific sexual abuse crisis that has haunted our Church, especially this past year. We all grieve the wicked ways that priests have abused children, seminarians, and other vulnerable people. With these scandals in mind, our parish has decided to share with you a new book by Bishop Rob-ert Barron. The book is titled Letter to a Suffering Church: A Bishop Speaks on the Sexual Abuse Crisis. We’ve ordered a copy of the book for everyone in the parish, and we hope that you will find it helpful. Bishop Barron provides clear insight on the crisis and where we should go from here. He helps to answer the question: Why stay Catholic with so much scandal? The books have been ordered and will be arriving sometime this month. As soon as we receive them we will make them available to you.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into Hell Satan and the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen. Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903)

EXPLANATION OF THE “ROE ACT”

Currently before the Legislature of Massachusetts are two identi-cal bills (House No. 3320 and Senate No. 1209) proposing the “Roe Act” (HB3320: “An Act of Removing Obstacles and Ex-panding access to Women’s Reproductive Health” and SB 1209: “An Act to Remove Obstacles and Expand Abortion Access”) There is a strong likelihood that the Legislature will act on these bills this summer. These acts, if passed will: ~Expand abortion access, including late-term abortions, during the nine months of pregnancy for virtually any reason; ~Eliminate any requirements that late-term abortions be per-formed in a hospital; ~Eliminate the requirement that provides medical care to a child who survives an abortion attempt; Eliminate the requirement that a minor under the age of 18 have the consent of a parent, guardian, or the courts; and ~Expand state funding for women who cannot afford the proce-dure. Numbers to call to say no to Expanded Abortion Access -”Roe Act” Governor Charles Baker: 617-725-4005 Representative Hannah Kane: 617-722-1485 State Senator Michael Moore: 617-722-1485 Chair –Senate James Eldridge: 617-722-1120 Chair-House Claire Cronin: 617-722-2396

A Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Virgin of Guadalupe, Patroness of unborn children, we implore your intercession for every child at risk of abortion. Help expectant parents to wel-come from God the priceless gift of their child’s life.

Console parents who have lost that gift through abortion, and lead them to forgiveness and healing through the Divine Mercy of your Son.

Teach us to cherish and to care for family and friends until God calls them home. Help us never to see others as bur-dens.

Guide our public officials to defend each and every human life through just laws. Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life, to speak for those who have no voice.

We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.
