CONGRATULATIONS ROSALIE BERQUIST

The Diocese of Worcester’s annual Pro-Life Awards were pre-sented at a Mass celebrated by Bishop McManus last Sunday, Oct. 4, in St. Paul Cathedral. The Mother Teresa Pro-Life Award was given to Rosalie Berquist. Rosalie Berquist has been an elo-quent defender of life for decades. She is a long-time member of the grassroots organization Massachusetts Citizens for Life and has held many responsibilities within the organization including chairing the annual MCFL Banquet, and serving as chairwoman of the Education Committee, and a member of their speaker’s bureau. Mrs. Berquist was an active member of the Witness for Life committee, a Worcester-based group formed after the nar-rowly defeated 2012 ballot question on physician-assisted sui-cide, whose efforts in educating about the dangers of assisted suicide have aided in successfully keeping PAS out of Massachu-setts. Mrs. Berquist has 33 years of teaching experience and spent 18 years as the prevention director of the Brain Injury Associa-tion of Massachusetts assisting survivors of traumatic brain inju-ry. Her gift of teaching led her to become an inspiring speaker, often presenting to adults and students on topics such as “The Miracle of Life,” how abortion is harmful to women and men, how the Catholic faith supports the Culture of Life, and how to find support in a crisis pregnancy. She is a long-time member of St. Mary Parish in Shrewsbury where she has been an active member of the parish’s Respect Life Committee. Mrs. Berquist and her late husband Duane, have lived the Gospel of Life all throughout their personal and professional lives. Like St. Mother Teresa, Rosalie Berquist has cared with great love and devotion for those most vulnerable and taught others to do the same.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY In his message for World Mission Day 2020, Pope Francis reminds us clearly that each baptized Christian is called upon to make Christ present in the world in which they live. In a world where so much divides us, next week’s World Mission Sun-

day rejoices in our unity as missionaries by our Baptism. It pro-vides an opportunity to support the life-giving presence of the Church among the poor and marginalized in more than 1,111 mis-sion dioceses. Thank-you for prayerfully reflecting on how your own baptismal call and thank-you for your support.

CELEBRATE PRIESTHOOD For the past six years the Diocese of Worcester has hosted a wonderful gala called Celebrate Priesthood – Taste of the Dio-cese as a benefit for Retired Priests Care. Given the many re-strictions for our wellbeing with regard to the Coronavirus pan-demic, we are planning Virtual Celebrate Priesthood event for Monday, October 26 at 6:00 pm. Although we cannot gather that night for the tastings from area restaurants and parishes, “tickets” as donations will be available up to and including that night to receive a gift of coupons from area restaurants to enjoy tastings at their facilities. Visit the web-site for more information https://worcesterdiocese.org/celebrate-priesthood-1
