Joyful News
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! To all of you who are mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and all who are like mothers or have the role of mother in the lives of others. My mother passed away two years ago. She suffered from dementia for many years so, in many ways, we had been saying farewell to her for many years. She was a gentle person; one of her favorite sayings,
especially when she was raising the three of us, was, “If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all”. And she lived that saying too.
Our mothers teach us many things; life lessons, how to interact with others, to be graceful
and to take the higher road when necessary. When children (of any age) are asking for a favor, many times they go to their mother, who then takes the request to dad. How those decisions are made, the child may not know. I can remember when I was young, one night I couldn’t fall asleep and I heard my parents in the kitchen discussing the day’s events in their lives and in the lives of my siblings and I. Long afterward, I realized that that was how the family “decisions” were made.
It’s not hard to take this discussion to the next level and think about the family life of Mary and Joseph, raising the child Jesus. I’m sure they sat down and discussed the day’s activities; they prayed together and made decisions. Mary must have passed down to her
Son life lessons. Continued on page 3

Mother’s Day Prayer
Loving God,
As a mother gives life and
nourishment to her children,
so you watch over your Church.
Bless our mother.
Let the example of her faith and
love shine forth.
Grant that we, her family,
may honor her always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through
Christ our Lord.
Amen
Congratulations to our Confirmandi
Sealed with Spirit on May 3, 2017

Thank you. There are many people to thank for helping to make the celebration of Confirmation such a Spirit-filled event. The music under the direction Steve Reyes, the Adult Choir and Musicians added so much to the Mass. All of the Liturgical Ministers who did us proud. The Catechists (Jeff
Burden, Lisa Kliza and Nicole Macko) the parents and sponsors worked hard with our twenty Confirmandi. The reception with Bishop Cepeda was prepared by lots of generous women including our Joyful Women. Thank you one and all for a memorable Confirmation. Sunday Missals – It is time to place your order for Adult and Children’s Sunday Missals. I can get a pre-publication bulk discount on orders placed in June. Call, write, or email me with your order. Payment is not due until Halloween. Registration for 2017-2018 - Please let us know of any prospective children NOW. Sessions for Kindergarten through Confirmation begin in September and conclude in May. We are looking forward to a very good year. Watch the bulletin for more information. Northwest Wayne Vicariate Catechist Formation will take place from July 31 – August 10. Twenty-one topics plus Enrichment will be offered at St. Joseph Parish in South Lyon. Protecting God’s Children (required of anyone working with children) will be offered on Saturday, Aug 5. You must register online for PGC. Catechist Appreciation Dinner will be held on Monday, May 22 as a way of saying Thank You for sharing the faith.
The Bottom Line After attending Mass for the first time, Megan decided that the Catholic Church must have been started by a guy named Neil.

LIVING ROSARY
MONDAY, MAY 22 at 7:00pm
Please join us for our Living Rosary. A Living Rosary is when people represent each bead of the rosary in memory of a loved one. We need YOU to make up one of the 60 beads. 60 flowers from this
celebration will be planted on our parish grounds to be enjoyed by all. A light reception will follow.
Please call the office at 734-425-4421 to reserve a spot.
BABY BOTTLE DRIVE
AAA Pregnancy Resource Center in Livonia has been helping families for over 40 years. They provide many free services, including pregnancy tests & ultrasounds. AAAPRC shares God’s truth with young moms and helps them to understand God’s plan for their life and their baby. Please stop on your way out of Church TODAY, MOTHER’S DAY, and pick up a ba-
by bottle to take to your home or office. Then, do your best to fill the bottle up over the next few weeks with spare change, bills or checks (made out to AAAPRC) and bring the bottle back the on FATHER’S DAY! Please bring the bot-tle back even if it’s just ½ full ~ every little bit helps. Empty ones should also be re-turned so that AAA PRC will not have to replace them. Get the kids involved – search the van, under the couch cushions, the bottom of Mom’s purse, the top of Dad’s dresser, raid the piggy bank! Have fun! It may not seem like much, but these coins add up, and they all make a difference for LIFE!!! If you have any questions or would like additional bottles, please call Pat Russo at 734-516-7858.
Sponsored by our Parish’s Christian Service Commission
Our next Baptism class for Parents and Godparents is this Monday, May 15th at 7pm in our Parish Center Building. This Class is presented by Deacon John Burke. Please make sure you register for one of our Baptism Classes by con-tacting our Parish Office at 734 425 4421.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!! YOU CAN DO IT! If you see an obviously pregnant woman – at the store, in church, waiting in line, etc. – take a
moment as you pass by, to say something like “Blessings on your baby and your family”. It’s an easy way to wish a Mom, Happy Mother’s Day! Remember, the pregnant woman is already a Mom; let’s
reinforce that fact with the language we use!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you!
