INTROIT. Ps. 85, 1, 2, 3. Bow down Thy ear, O Lord, tome, and hear me: save Thy servant, O my God, that

trusteth in Thee: have mercy on me, O Lord, for I havecried to Thee all day. Ps. 85, 4. Give joy to the soul of Thyservant; for to Thee, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul. V.Glory.

PRAYER. Let Thy continual pity, O Lord, cleanse andfortify Thy Church; and, because without Thee it can

not be safely established, let it ever be governed by Thygrace. Through our Lord.

EPISTLE. Gal. 5, 25, 26; 6, 1-10. Brethren, if we live inthe spirit, let us also walk in the spirit. Let us not be

made desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envy-ing one another. Brethren, and if a man be overtaken inany fault, you, who are spiritual, instruct such a one in thespirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also betempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so you shallfulfill the law of Christ. For if any man think himself to besomething, whereas he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every one prove his own work, and so he shall haveglory in himself only, and not in another. For every oneshall bear his own burden. And let him that is instructedin the word, communicate to him that instructeth him, inall good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: forwhat things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. Forhe that soweth in his flesh of the flesh also shall reap cor-ruption: but he that soweth in the spirit shall reap life ev-erlasting. And in doing good, let us not fail; for in duetime we shall reap, not failing. Therefore, whilst we havetime, let us work good to all men, but especially to thosewho are of the household of the Faith.

GRADUAL. Ps. 91, 2, 3. It is good to give praise to theLord; and to sing to Thy name, O most High. V. To

show forth Thy mercy in the morning, and Thy truth inthe night.

ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA. V. Ps. 94, 3. For the Lord is agreat God, and a great king above all the earth. Alle-

luia.

GOSPEL. Luke 7, 11-16. At that time, Jesus went into acity called Naim; and there went with Him His disci-

ples, and a great multitude. And when He came nigh to thecity, behold a dead man was carried out, the only son of hismother; and she was a widow, and much people of the citywere with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had com-passion on her, and said to her, Weep not. And He camenear, and touched the bier. And they that carried it stoodstill. And He said, Young man, I say to thee, Arise: and hethat was dead sat up, and began to speak. And He deliv-ered him to his mother. And there came a fear on them all:and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is risen upamongst us and God hath visited His people.

OFFERTORY. Ps. 39, 2, 3, 4. With expectation I havewaited for the Lord, and He had regard to me; and

He heard my prayer, and He put a new canticle into mymouth, a song to our God.

SECRET. May Thy sacraments, O Lord, keep us andguard us always from the assaults of the devil.

Through our Lord.

COMMUNION. John 6, 52. The bread that I will give isMy flesh for the life of the world.

POSTCOMMUNION. Let the operation of the heavenlygift, O Lord, possess our souls and bodies, that, its ho-

ly grace, not our own impulses, may continually be ourguide. Through our Lord.

Vocations Corner: Living vs. Existing by Rev. Keith RomkeThe other day I was reading a book and the fol-

lowing quote from Bl. Pier Giorgio Frasati [ http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=6994 ] cameup: “To live without faith, without a patrimony to defend, without a steady struggle for truth, that is not living butexisting.” Wisdom such as this is something that I thinkwe would expect to hear from a blessed, and maybe we’dassume that this understanding of the deeper meaning tolife and to living would be something gleaned over many, many years of life. The amazing thing however, is that hewas an active and adventurous Italian young man whodied at the young age of 24. Although he died young, weknow that he is living his eternal reward now, but I alsothink due to the wisdom that he presents in the quote, that we could say that in his 24 years on this earth he“lived” more than some people who “exist” on this earthinto their 90’s. If we truly want to LIVE rather than justdrudge along and exist or survive in life, then we have toreach out to the very source of life itself. It is in speakingwith God and seeking to live out His will that we discoverthe meaning of our lives. So too, for anyone who is will-ing to take a step out in faith to follow where they believeGod is calling them, they will quickly find out that jour-neying with God is an amazing adventure. So don’t beafraid to follow where God calls, rather be afraid of mere-ly existing! Step out in faith and follow God today!

The parishioners of St. Mary Oratory extend a most heartfelt:“Thank you, Fr. Jerome for providing us with the

Welcome to St. Mary’s OratoryWith the gracious permission of BishopDavid Malloy, Bishop of Rockford, theextraordinary form of Holy Mass is offeredat St. Mary by the Institute of Christ theKing Sovereign Priest. We are pleased tohave you join us in this venerable act ofworship and invite you to return often.

In the traditional Mass everyone hashis proper role whether it be cele-brant, choir, server, usher, or congre-gation. At High Mass, the choirmakes all responses simply becausethat is their function. The congrega-tion, on the other hand, responds in-ternally, as opposed to vocally, andthis is still, according to Pope PiusXII in his encyclical “Mediator Dei”active participation. Active participa-tion is wide-ranging, including sing-ing, silent meditation or even recita-tion of the Rosary during Mass, be-cause active participation does notnecessarily mean vocal responses. Toassist at Mass more fully, use the mis-sals provided in the pews, paying par-ticular attention to any notes in themargin. All the “proper,” or particularparts of the Mass are in the bulletin.Simply follow those around you forwhen to stand, sit, and kneel. Pleasekeep a “holy silence” in the church atall times, out of respect for Christ’spresence in the tabernacle. Since thereis no mixing of the old and new rites,Holy Communion is received on thetongue while kneeling at the altar railwithout responding “Amen” whenreceiving the Host.

A kind reminder : only Catholicsin the state of grace and havingfasted for 1 hour, are free to re-

ceive Holy Communion.
