Pelagia, also called Margaret, was the “foremost actress” of Antioch, celebrated for her beauty, wealth, and the disorder of her life, but then she became a legendary saint and hermit. Having heard a sermon by Bishop St. Nonnus of Edessa, she was so moved, that she asked him to baptize her, which he did. She gave her wealth to the poor and left Antioch dressed in men's clothing. She became a hermitess in a cave on Mt. Olive in Jerusalem, where she lived in austerity, performing penances as "the beardless monk." Upon discovering at her death that the renowned monk had been a woman, the church fathers tried to hide the fact, but word spread and her relics drew pilgrims from far and near.

“It’s just me,” you may be thinking...as if you are not important to our SML community! On the contrary! Everyone, individuals and families, greatly enriches our

parish, and we want everyone to participate. The Directory’ s purpose is two-fold: to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the parish

and community we know and love, and to help us to know one another so that we are

more than just a face in the pew. Don’t want to be alone? Ask a friend to join you (does not have to be a parishioner). We can put small groups of individuals together for group photos. If you would like to be put together with a small group, please let us know this week in order to coordinate. Email Marian Incognito at [email protected]. Or, you can advise Marian what day you cannot attend and she will work with you to find one. Don’t regret not participating in this event! The more who participate, the more fun and meaningful this will be for all. Remember, although you may purchase additional photos, no purchase is necessary. You will receive a free 8 x 10 (in three weeks) and a copy of the directory (in June), and be included in our 75th anniversary photo directory. (Military, first responders get 20% off with ID.)

The time to sign up for photos in the 75th Anniversary photo directory is now! It’s so simple—just visit the parish website and click on the sign-up link!
