Dear parish family, Epiphany of the Lord Happy New Year! And Happy Feast of the Three Kings! As we say years ago. The Church named this feast the Epiphany of the Lord. The word Epiphany, derives from a Greek which means, “manifestation” or “to show forth.” The Magi, traditionally known to us as the three kings, coming from the East represent the pagan world that came to recog-nize and adore the new born savior. Thus, it signifies that this child is not only the savior and king of the Jews but of the whole world. He is a savior-king not only to the poor and simple shepherds but also to the wise, the rich and powerful. He is King of Kings, Lord of Lords of all. He manifests himself most especially to those who seek him like the Magi. The Magi or the Wise men in the gospel story are very important lesson for us. They are true examples of real seekers of the Savior. All their life was dedicated to seek and worship the true king of the world. Having seen the great sign from God, they didn’t mind the hardships and difficulties of the search. They didn’t care the weariness and dangers of the journey. They are indeed people of true convic-tion and firm beliefs. When they finally found the new born King, they were not taken aback, discouraged, nor have misgivings of what they saw – the child King was not in Royal splendor of the palace but instead was in the very lowly place. You can just imagine being a rich man who trav-eled a long way only to find what you are looking for in a humble place. But the Wise Men however were overjoyed even when they found the child in the place beyond their wildest expectation. What mattered to them was not the appearance or the place they found the child. But what really matters was the conviction that the search was over. They must be men of great humility and magnificent faith which triumph over human prejudices that counts only appearances. Their hearts responded faithfully to the touch of grace for they were not prejudiced and ready to concede to God whatever He chooses for His manifestation. Like the Magi let us not grow tired or weary or get discouraged when we find at times the will of God directing us to situations we do not expect or sometimes we even don’t like. Like the Magi what matters to us must be our faith, our beliefs and our convictions that God constantly is guiding us through. Like the Magi we must be clear to distinguish that the blessings of God are not judged by mere appearanc-es of things but by the conviction that one indeed see God in whatever circumstances. Like the Magi what should matter is our determination to worship the true Savior and bring him our gifts – gold of our love, the incense of our prayers and praise, the myrrh of our sacrifices and sufferings for His sake. May this New Year bring us peace, happiness and the graces we truly need. Blessings to all and have good week! Fr. Fr. Tony

LIGHT OF THE WORLD Epiphany can be understood as an ex-tension of the Nativity of the Lord that we celebrate on December 25. While at Christ-mas we celebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish peo-ple, on Epiphany we celebrate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all na-tions—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it at-tracts magi who come from far distant coun-tries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The letter to the Ephesians reveals that the Light of the world was for the Gentiles as well as the Jews—Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. The reading from Isaiah also describes a gathering of diverse peoples, but this time it is to the light that emanates from the people of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
