The Emergency Food Box is currently in need of the following items to help stock their shelves: canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned soups, peanut butter, pasta sauce, boxed dinners. (Please check the expiration dates to make sure the food items are not outdated) and bring them to Mass on the second weekend of every month. Another request is for cloth grocery bags for those clients who
are without transportation. Volunteers are always needed. There are many different types of opportunities available. Please con act Edith Podhajsky at 752-5342.

Tamales and Pupusas!! Who wants to enjoy some traditional Hispanic food? The youth group will be selling both Tamales and Pupusas after the 8am and 10:30am Masses at St. Henry's on April 8th. All money collected will support youth trips. $1/tamale and $3/pupusa (or 2 for $5)
Say What? What is a Pupusa??
A pupusa is a small stuffed corn tortilla (stuffed with cheese, pork, beans) that is cooked on a griddle. They are deliciouos!

Alleluia! He is risen! Alleluia! As we begin a Holy Mass, we prepare ourselves for the mysteries of the Lord in various ways: we recognize the Spirit of the Lord present as His people gathered (“The Lord be with you…”), we repent of our recent failures as Christians (“Lord, have mercy…”), and then we offer
adoration (“Glory to God in the highest…”). The Lord speaks to us in his word proclaimed, and together we hear the proclamation of a Gospel, the Good News of Jesus given through His direct ministry. For such a great gift, the people rise up and praise the Lord singing out Alleluia!
During Lent, though, we restrain ourselves from the bold songs of Glory and Alleluia. We refrain from these communal acts of praise to emphasize our need of individual repentance and conversion. This is such a beautiful practice, as it makes our proclamations of praise more powerful as they return at Easter. As Lent is a time to focus on conversion, have Easter be a time for bold proclamations of adoration. Proclaim Glory to God with great joy this Easter season! May the hope in Christ’s victory over death embolden you to praise God as witnesses to joy at home, at school, at work, at church. Alleluia! Rejoicing in the Risen Christ, Fr. Greg

Para su reflexión…
Cuando muere alguien muy querido, parece que andamos unos cuantos días o semanas como sin reaccionar, sin enterarnos bien de qué es lo que ha ocurri-do y sin entender del todo la finalidad de la muerte. Eso les debió parecer a los discípulos e incluso a María Magdalena en los primeros días después de la muerte de Jesús. El no encontrar el cuerpo añadía un dolor más, porque no se podía cerrar el ciclo y dar por concluidos los acontecimientos. La visión solo llegaba hasta ahí, como nos ocurre a todos muchas veces. El no tener la ca-pacidad de ver más allá casi nos exige cerrar los acontecimientos, pasar la página y comenzar de nuevo casi olvidando la experiencia anterior.
Olvidar a un ser querido difunto es obligarlo a morir del todo. Es como una traición. Cuando salimos del estupor, quisiéramos encontrar a la persona viva; pero acabamos resignándonos.
Con Cristo, las cosas son muy distintas. No podemos simplemente pasar la página y hacer como que ahora ya es otro momento de nuestra vida, porque no es solo otro momento, sino otra vida. La experiencia de Jesús resucitado nos dice que todo lo que hemos vivido con Él ha sido para que la semilla mu-riera en tierra y pudiera dar vida; ha sido para cambiar radicalmente de vida. ¿Qué puede querer decir para nosotros morir para resucitar con Cristo? ¿A qué cosas deberíamos morir? Cada uno tendrá su propia lista de las fuerzas de muerte que ve en sí mismo: pereza, adicción a algo que le impide hacer cosas mejores y le roba su verdadera identidad, inclinación al egoísmo, cólera que no consigue controlar…
La promesa cumplida por Cristo de vencer a la muerte aplica a nuestras muer-tes. Nosotros surgimos también a una vida nueva. Cristo puede vencer en nosotros todo lo que nos ata y darnos una nueva vida.
No se trata, pues, de resignarse, sino de buscar la vida y encontrarla, como María Magdalena, en el Resucitado.
Para pensar...
¿Cuáles son mis muertes personales de las que quiero salir por la fuerza de la Resurrección de Cristo?
Cuentos de gracia (y cuentos graciosos!)
Una anciana mujer, verdadera entusiasta de la jardinería, afirmaba que no creía en absoluto en ciertas predicciones que auguraban que algún día lograrían los científicos controlar el tiempo atmosférico. Según ella, lo único que hacía falta para controlar el tiempo era la oración. Pero un verano, mientras ella se encontra-ba de viaje por el extranjero, la segquía azotó el país y arruinó por completo su precioso jardín. Cuando regresó, se sintió tan trastornada que cambió de religión.
Moraleja:
Debería haber cambiado sus estúpidas creencias!

Muchas veces después de la misa hay varias personas que quieren
hablar con el Padre Greg. Para facilitar esto, pedimos que se sienten en la primera banca
del lado este de la iglesia después de la misa y que tengan un poco
de paciencia en esperarlo. Gracias por su comprensión!
Los domingos de Pascua
Abril es tiempo de Pascua y, desde el primer domingo, las lecturas reflexionan sobre el poder de la Resurrección y lla-man a la fe y la con-vicción profunda, en este tema central de
nuestra fe.
El segundo domingo de Pascua nos presenta la figura de Tomás, quien se niega a creer si no toca las heridas de Cristo. Es una invitación a ver las llagas de Cristo en el sufrimiento del mundo y, por lo tanto, a creer.
En el tercer domingo se nos presenta un Jesús resucitado que de nuevo los discípulos reconocen en los gestos sencillos de la comida juntos. Es una llamada al reconocimiento del Cristo en la propia humanidad y en la comu-nidad.
El cuarto domingo, del Buen Pastor, la invitación no es solo a reconocer y confiar, sino a seguir al Buen Pastor convirtiéndonos en buenos pastores para los demás. Todo esto represen-ta un estudio progresivo de los com-promisos bautismales, que se renue-van en la Vigilia Pascual y a lo largo de todo el tiempo pascual.

CONSEJERÍA PARA FAMILIAS En la oficina de Youth Shelter Services (11 E. State St.) se ofrece consejería en español para familias. Comuníquese con Lydia Youngdahl (641-485-6686).
HORARIO DE MISAS Entre semana hay misa cada día en Santa María: lunes (8 a.m.), martes (5:15), jueves (12:10 p.m.) y viernes (6 p.m.). Hay misa en San Henry cada mañana (excepto los lunes) a las 7:30.
ADORACIÓN AL SANTÍSIMO Cada martes hay misa a las 5:15 p.m. seguida por le exposición del Santísimo. Hay adoración hasta las 8 p.m.
CELEBRACIÓN DE NIÑOS Cada domingo durante la primera parte de la misa de 11:30 a.m. hay una celebración de la Palabra de Dios para los niños. Es una oportunidad para que ellos puedan entender un poco más del evangelio dominical. Es para los niños de 4 a 10 años de edad.
ENFERMOS Si incluir a alguien en la lista de enfermos por quienes pedimos en la misa dominical, avisen a la oficina hispana. También para recibir una visita en el hospital, hay que avisarle al Padre Greg, ya que el hospital no llama a la oficina.
BAUTISMOS La próxima plática bautismal será el domingo, 22 de abril, de 3 a 7 p.m. en el salón parroquial. No es necesario inscribirse antemano. Durante el año hay bautismos el primer y tercer sábado del mes, de las 3:00 a 7:00.
