In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death / light has arisen” (Matthew 4:16). Jesus contemplates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Ngày Tết và Người Công Giáo

Giữa bối cảnh Tin Mừng được rao giảng và hòa mình vào những nền văn hóa, khác nhau, người tín hữu được mời gọi hãy trân trọng những giá trị

văn hóa khác nhau đó, nhưng làm cho tươi mới và mang những giá trị Tin Mừng Tình Yêu Chúa. Người Công giáo, trong khi mừng những ngày Tết Nguyên Đán, cũng hướng đến những ý nghĩa thật cao quý: ♦ Mùng 01 Tết: Cầu bình an cho Năm mới. ♦ Mùng 02 Tết: Kính nhớ Tổ Tiên, ông bà cha mẹ. ♦ Mùng 03 Tết: Thánh hóa công việc làm ăn. Điều này nói lên những giá trị riêng, thật đẹp và ý nghĩa mà mỗi người Công giáo phải trọng trong khi hoà mình vào truyền thống văn hoá của dân tộc. Từ ngàn xưa đã có những nét đẹp văn hóa ngày Tết mà cho đến nay vẫn tồn tại và cần được phát triển.

Mỗi Chúa nhật đầu tháng sẽ có Chầu Thánh Thể sau Thánh lễ.

Người Công giáo Việt Nam cũng tiếp nhận những phong tục tốt đẹp này theo tinh thần. Sau đây là ghi nhận một số những tục lệ tốt đẹp ngày Tết mà nhiều nơi đang áp dụng. Tảo mộ Người Việt Nam có tục lệ đi tảo mộ ngày cuối năm, cứ từ khoảng 23 tháng Chạp trở đi, người ta đến các nghĩa trang để sửa sang lại phần mộ ông bà tổ tiên, cha mẹ đã quá cố. Tục lệ này nói lên lòng tri ân, tưởng nhớ người đã khuất nhân dịp đón xuân mới. Người Công giáo cũng tiếp nhận điều tốt đẹp này, Nên dịp cuối năm, giáo dân đến viếng, quét vôi, dọn cỏ, trồng hoa, thắp hương và hơn hết là dâng lời cầu nguyện cho ông bà tổ tiên. Lễ Tất Niên - Tân Niên Tạ Ơn Tại nhiều giáo xứ tổ chứa mừng lễ tất niên vào tuần lễ giáp Tết hoặc Tân Niên trong những ngày đầu năm mới, tùy theo hoàn cảnh và điều kiện của giáo xứ. Toàn thể giáo dân Việt Nam trong giáo xứ

được mời tham dự với hương hoa, của lễ và những ý nguyện cầu xin cho một năm mới bình an. Sau thánh lễ, tùy theo điều kiện, toàn thể giáo dân quây quần liên hoan để có dịp chia sẻ tâm tư, tình cảm vui buồn đậm đà tình nghĩa.

Bên cạnh đó cũng những phong tục cổ truyền như múa lân, đốt pháo ... và văn nghệ mừng Xuân do giáo dân trình diễn. Lễ Giao Thừa Đón giao thừa là một nét đẹp không thể thiếu của các gia đình Việt Nam. Trước giờ giao thừa, mọi người dù ở đâu, làm gì cũng cố gang trở về quay quần bên nhau để chờ đón giây phút linh thiêng. Với người Việt Nam Công giáo, từ sau Công đồng Vaticanô II, Giáo hội Việt Nam đã đề nghị các giáo xứ tổ chức thánh lễ tạ ơn cuối năm trước giờ giao thừa. Phần cuối lễ thường là dành để cộng đoàn, cha xứ cùng chúc mừng năm mới. Hái Lộc Khoảng hơn chục năm trở lại đây, theo tinh thần Hội nhập văn hóa, hầu như tại các xứ đạo đều có tổ chức "hái lộc đầu xuân". "Lộc" ở đây là các phong bao lì xì, trong

có kèm một câu trích trong sách Tin Mừng, được treo trên các chậu

cảnh hay những cành đào, cành mai đặt trên cung thánh. Mỗi câu

Lời Chúa nhận được như là ý Chúa gửi đến mỗi người, mỗi gia đình trong năm mới. Trên đây là một số ghi nhận của người viết qua các gia đình Công giáo ở nhiều nơi đã thực hiện. Rất mong những phong tục đậm đà bản sắc văn hóa dân tộc Việt Nam được duy trì và phát huy vì "những gì tốt đẹp trong tâm hồn và tư tưởng của loài người hoặc trong nghi lễ và văn hóa riêng của các dân tộc, hoạt động của Hội Thánh không nhằm tiêu diệt nhưng làm cho lành mạnh, nâng cao và kiện toàn, hầu làm vinh danh Thiên Chúa và mưu cầu hạnh phúc cho con người" (Hiến chế Tín lý về Giáo hội 17,1)

BUSCAMOS LA LUZ En las lecturas de hoy nos encontramos deseando una

relación más profunda con Jesús. Lo vamos conociendo un poco más al ver cómo le afecta la noticia del arresto de su primo Juan. Su primera reacción es retirarse, dejar Nazaret e irse a Cafarnaúm. Es allí donde quizás encuentra tanto consuelo como reto en las palabras de Isaías que Mateo

cita: “El pueblo que caminaba en tinieblas vio una gran luz. Sobre los que vivían en tierra de sombras una luz

resplandeció” (Mateo 4:16). Jesús contempla la muerte de su primo, y quizás su propia muerte, y busca la luz. Tal vez son estas palabras de Isaías las que sacan a Jesús de su

retiro y lo lanzan a la acción, pues él comienza a predicar, enseñar, curar enfermedades y a proclamar el Evangelio
