The Legion of Mary meets on Wednesday mornings after the 8:00AM Mass in the Chapel where we recite the Rosary and have a short meeting. The Legion offers an opportunity for both spiritual and active enrichment. We invite our auxiliary members to join us and always welcome new members.

The St. Mark Council of Catholic Women meets the second Saturday of each month from September to May. Meetings are held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in the cafeteria. FYI: February 7, 2016 – 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time In the past couple of weeks I have heard from various people that there seems to be some confusion in respect to whom a Letter of Recommendation may be given in respect to becoming a Godparent for Baptism or a Sponsor for Confirmation. There are several requirements: • One must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic. • He/she must be at least 16 years of age. • One must be a registered Parishioner of St. Mark Parish. • He/she must be regularly attending Mass (Sundays and holydays) and participating in the life of the

Parish. • One must be living in a lifestyle that is in conformity with Catholic Faith and morals. If married, he/she

was married in the presence of a Catholic deacon, priest or bishop and two witnesses. One may not act as a godparent or sponsor if one is married “outside” the Church or co-habitating since these two are direct violations of the sixth Commandment. One may not be a member of a secret society or organization that advocates positions contrary to the Catholic Faith or morals, e.g. Masons, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, etc.

Remember a letter of recommendation is a letter from one Pastor to another stating that the person is eligible to act in this capacity. In respect to ministries such as Lector or Eucharistic Minister, head of a parish group, e.g. the Knights of Columbus or C.C.W., the same requirements apply. If you have any questions, please feel free to see Frs. Germain, Sam, Richard or myself. Finally, Wednesday we begin the Season of Lent. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. Fast means that we consume only one full meal that day. (Fast applies to all from the ages of 18-59.) In case of those with illnesses or disabilities the fast is dispensed. Abstinence means that on this day, we refrain from eating all meat and poultry.

Ashes will be blessed and distributed during the Masses and during the 5:00 p.m. Service.

Masses are scheduled for 6:30 a.m.; 8:00 a.m.; 12:00 Noon; 5:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word with the Distribution of Ashes;

HUNGER WALK, 5 K Run, BARBECUE, CONCERT

The Community Caring Center Hunger Walk will be held on Saturday, March 5.

The two mile walk to the beach and back will begin at 9:15 a.m. at the Backyard parking lot, 511 NE 4th St. Additional parking at St. Mark Catholic Church across the street. There is no registration fee, but CCC suggests that each walker donate non-perishable food and/or $20. A walker who raises $100 or more will receive a free T-shirt (one per person). Registration will be in the Narthex on the weekends of Feb. 20 and 27th. Those who cannot participate in the walk may sponsor Sr. Mary Joan, Fr. Dan, Fr. Richard or Fr. Germain. The day of the walk, you may register at 8:30 for the walk or at 6:30 for a 5K run and Kids Fun Run (monitored by AccuChip USA).It is considered a qualifying run for other events. The course for the run is NE 4th St. to Boynton Bch. Blvd., then North to Gateway and back to N.E. 4th St. You may register online for the run @ www.active.com or link to registration site @ www.cccgbb.org. Cost is $35 and includes a free T-shirt. Kid and pet friendly! This year’s events benefit the Community Caring Center’s Senior Hunger programs and the Children’s Gardening & Nutrition Education Program.

The CCC emergency food, shelter, & assistance benefits 5000 people annually. St. Marks won the top team award again last year, so let’s keep the “spirit” moving!
