Welcome! For more than 24 years now, we have been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with
everyone! Please accept my warmest welcome, and I pray you will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all do—our
Spiritual Home and Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you!
God Bless you. —Father Kevin
WELCOME: Katherine Frazier, Trenton & Emily Schmale, Neal & Kristina Knies, Javier Patricio Galeana
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
+ Pax et Bonum!
Happy Fourth of July weekend! And welcome to
St. Maria Goretti as we gather together to celebrate the
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. It’s a big weekend!
We continue to give thanks to our Lord for all our bless-
ings, His grace, and His love. And we entrust to Jesus
today all our prayers, needs, and concerns as we gather
together around the Altar of the Lord on this the Birthday
of our Nation. Today we are also finishing our Novena to
St. Maria Goretti. Our Patroness’s Feast Day is tomorrow!
And the Novena always ends just before the Feast Day
itself. Masses tomorrow are at 7am in the Holy Spirit
Chapel and at 5:30pm in the Main Sanctuary. In celebra-
tion of the Feast of St. Maria Goretti, you are invited to
bring fresh flowers from your garden or yard to place in
front of the statue of St. Maria Goretti here at church.
You’re welcome to do this today, tomorrow, for the Feast
Day, all this week, and even next weekend as we contin-
ue to celebrate our Patroness.
Of course, all of this means that we are also just
days away from the 2020 Italian Festival! Like everything
else in 2020, it’s going to be a little different. Please
note the time change—7pm to 9:45pm with the closing
fireworks show. No games this year. But we will have
some great food, awesome music, and this year some of
the only fireworks around town. Let’s pray for a beautiful
evening. St. Maria Goretti almost always takes good care
of us with one of the most beautiful evenings of the
whole summer. We will be “social distancing”, but after a
long spring of “sheltering at home”, it’s been so good to
see each other. We will work together to keep everybody
safe.
Last weekend, we welcomed our new Catholics
into the Church at a special Mass on Saturday night. The
Baptisms, Receptions into the Church, Confirmations,
First Communions, and Marriage Validations of our new
brothers and sisters were beautiful and, of course, very
inspiring. Congratulations to all of those who are now one
with us in the Faith! I did neglect to thank our wonderful
RCIA and RCIC teams who worked so hard this year, in
what were obviously very difficult situations, to prepare
and form our new Catholics. I’d like to thank Connie An-
derson, Sheri McGrath, Jeff Muller, Kathy Lengerich, and
all of our presenters for this year’s
RCIA. We are so blessed to have a
really good RCIA team and process.
It is one of the best around, and
something we should all be proud of! That’s because we
have so many people committed to the RCIA process and
who know how important it is that we do this formation
to the very best of our abilities! It is also not too early to
mention that our next RCIA class kicks-off on Monday,
August 3, with the first session of the Precatechumen-
ate. That’s right. It’s already time for us to start thinking
about who we could invite to be part of next year’s RCIA
class. We’ve got a month. Who could you invite this
year?
Hopefully by now you have seen our e-mails on
Realm. If not, let’s talk about how important this new
information system is to our Parish. Every parish today,
from the biggest parish in New York to the smallest par-
ish in New Mexico, uses some sort of organizational
computer program to organize and communicate with its
parishioners. After a lot of investigation, our Diocese has
decided that the best one available to us is this one
called Realm. All parishes within the Diocese are switch-
ing to this program. It will save time, energy, and money
for all of us to have a great, common system. The help
and abilities that Realm is going to give us have only be-
gun to be realized. Realm is for US! All of US! We will get
out of it what we put in. Each family, each household of
St. Maria Goretti Parish, is being asked to put your own
up-to-date information into the Realm program. You tell
us what we need to know about you and your family to
best serve you. All the information you put into Realm is
confidential. It’s a good deal for all of us. What we need
from everybody now is for you to go online and create
your profile. We will send you all that you need to do this.
This is really very exciting.
I hope and pray that you and your family are do-
ing well. Let us keep one another in our prayers.
In Christ,
Fr. Kevin
Keep using My Name in vain,
and I’ll make rush hour even longer.
~God

tion on Saturday, August 15, following the 4:30 pm
Mass. Details to come!
UNIVERSAL CALL TO HOLINESS: PART 2
As discussed in part 1, the phrase ‘Universal Call to Holi-
ness’ is stressed in the Second Vatican Council’s Dogmatic
Constitution on the Church (Lumen Gentium); it recognizes
that all the people of God are “called to the fullness of the
Christian life and to the perfection of charity” (no. 40).
This call is directed not only to priests, deacons, and con-
secrated religious, but also to the laity and should be pur-
sued within an individual’s specific vocation (marriage, ded-
icated single life, parent, etc.). To achieve or even attempt to
achieve holiness can seem unattainable; however, there
are practical ways each of us can grow in holiness daily:
Attending Mass
Receiving the Sacraments regularly
Praying daily and praying as a family/couple
Meditation/Contemplation
Eucharistic Adoration
Lectio Divina (individually or in groups)
Daily Rosary
Ignatian Daily Examen
Fasting and sacrifice
Participating in charitable works
Spreading the Gospel/talk to others about Jesus Christ
RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY ANNUAL BLOOD DRIVE

IMMUNIZATION NOTICE
Eleven-year-olds entering 6th
grade in Indiana are required
to receive the meningitis vaccine, and an updated teta-
nus/pertussis vaccine known as “Tdap”. The “tetanus
booster” cannot be received until after the 10th or 11th
birthday (depending on the drug manufacturer). This
vaccine has dramatically lowered the number of pertus-
sis cases in middle school and high school students in
Indiana. The meningitis vaccine has reduced incidents
of this serious disease in our adolescent and young
adult group. Make sure all vaccines are received before
entering 6th grade. If you have questions regarding the
above, call the nurse’s office, 317-896-5582, ext. 204.
St. Maria Goretti School is seeking can-
didates for an Elementary Teaching

St. Maria Goretti is a two-time National Blue Ribbon
School of Excellence and is seeking outstanding teach-
er candidates to provide a Catholic environment with
high academic standards while meeting the needs of
each student. The ideal candidate will be a practicing
Catholic and an Indiana licensed teacher, have excel-
lent understanding of curriculum and a willingness to
collaborate with others. Send a cover letter and résu-
mé to Vince Barnes, Principal, [email protected].

VINCE BARNES - Principal
School Office Closed in July
will reopen August 3, 9am I am excited and honored to take over the Ath-
letic Director position for SMG and will continue to
make the Sports Ministry a place where young
people practice and live their Catholic values
through athletic experiences. My wife, Stephanie,
and I have four boys who attend SMG and partic-
ipate in our Sports Ministry. Our family loves
SMG and all that it represents.
I have witnessed how rewarding sports can be
for the development of our youth, especially when
God and faith are present. I look forward to the
opportunity of leading this ministry. If I can be of
assistance, please e-mail me, [email protected].
Thank you and God bless.

We are excited to announce the roll out of a new parish
technology called Realm®. It serves as our official parish
database, which allows our Parish Staff
to record Sacraments, register parish-
ioners, track financial giving, and main-
tain parishioner contact information.
Once you and other parish members create personal
profiles, these will open up other features that will allow
our ministries to connect in new ways with those they
serve, including sending messages, organizing message
boards for volunteers and/or participants, and manag-
ing event registrations, RSVPs, and attendance.
Realm® will also make it easier for our Parish Family
to connect with each other, keep up with what’s going
on, and grow as a connected community.
You should have received an e-mail inviting you to
create a personal profile within Realm®. (If you don't see
this e-mail in your inbox, check your spam folder.) By
updating your information and keeping it current, you
are helping our staff, ministry leaders, and our entire
parish community. Rest assured that your personal in-
formation will be kept safe and secure. Your Profile in-
cludes:
Contact Information* (e.g. name, address, email, phone)
Photo (optional)
Family Members
Personal Info (e.g. marital status, birthday**, etc.)
*You can decide later what data you want to hide online by
setting your privacy preferences.
**Feel free to enter your full birthday. The year and your age
will not be displayed on your parish directory profile.

you did not receive this Flocknote or would like to refer
