Our Rich History• St. Margaret’s is the oldest girls’ school in Singapore
and the Far East• In our 178-year-old history, St. Margaret’s has seen
many ups and downs, including World War I and World War II
• Through it all, we remain faithful to our mission to not only educate girls but to care for the less privileged.
• Strong belief that we are Blessed to be a Blessing.

Our BeliefsEducation is not about finding the model answer as
many problems our children will face in the future will have no model answer
There is no map, so we need to provide them with a compass (adapted from sharing by Mr Lim Siong Guan with SMSS staff)
Failure is part of the learning process, whether in the formal curriculum or social / life skills
Assessment of/is for/as learning where the learning is more important than the outcome
SMSS Compass: School Values(Upholding Integrity, Learning Continuously, Taking Pride,
Being Resilient, Showing Care)

UntangledGuiding Teenage girls through the seven transitions into adulthood
Lisa Damour, Ph.D.
Challenge of adolescence(Account of adolescence, anna freud)
I take it that it is normal for an adolescent to behave for a considerable period of time in an inconsistent and unpredictable manner;
to fight her impulses and accept them; to love her parents and to hate them;
to revolt against them and to be dependent on them; to be deeply ashamed to acknowledge her mother before others and
unexpectedly, to desire heart-to-heart talks with her; to thrive on imitation of others while searching unceasingly for her own
identity; to be more idealistic, artistic, generous, and unselfish than she will ever
be again, but also the opposite: self-centred, egoistic, calculating.
Challenge of adolescence(Account of adolescence, anna freud)
Such fluctuations and extreme opposites would have been deemed highly abnormal at any other time of life.
At this time they may signify no more than that an adult structure of personality
takes a long time to emerge, that the individual in question does not cease to experiment
and is in no hurry to close down on possibilities.
WHAT THE GIRL IS GOING THROUGH(CONSCIOUSLY OR SUB-CONSCIOUSLY)

they feel proud to call their own
Pressure to be in a tribe as it
affects the “social status”
Using meanness to maintain social
power
