St. Louis de Mon ort Mission Statement We are called to be and to become a loving family centered in Jesus. We acknowledge and accept that each of us is unique and has special gi s from the Holy Spirit. We wish to nurture, develop and share these gi s within and for the Body of Christ. Having been called by Bap sm into that Body, We celebrate our rela onship in Word, Sacrament and Family Celebra on. We are then sent to call others to Christ through whom we are and what we do. We recognize Christ’s call to be one in Him and commit ourselves to his way of life.

******** AN ANCIENT BAPTISTERY

One of the most ancient and enduring sites for bap-tism in Rome is the church of San Giovanni in Fonte. This church is in fact a baptistery, and houses the font for the Lateran Basilica, the cathedral of Rome. The Emper-or Constantine sponsored its construction in the year 315, and it is therefore the oldest baptistery in the world. It is the model for nearly all later baptisteries, including per-haps the font in your own parish church. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

On behalf of our parish I wish to express our sincere thanks to Irma Gapter who has chaired the Juvenile Hall Ministry pro-gram for 11 years. THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD PAGE FOUR

Religious Education & Junior High Religious Education classes resume January 14th & 15th. Junior High youth group resumes on Jan-uary 15th. For more information contact [email protected] LIVE Catholic: Our next workshop is Mon-day, January 26th from 7:00-8:30pm in the up-per room. Live Catholic empowers parents to take an active role in growing faith in their chil-dren, from toddlers to teens, and raise their kids to be the people God calls them to be. Each date the workshop materials and presentation are dif-ferent. It is not necessary to attend each work-shop to participate; come to one or come to ALL as you will learn something different on the sub-ject at each session. (All parents of year 1 and year 2 Communion RE students need to attend 1 faith growth opportunity each year- AKA CAFÉ and the Family Night fulfills that commitment).

YEAR OF THE CONSECRATED LIFE

As we Josephites are members of a Religious Con-gregation – the Josephite Fathers—we are pleased that the Pope has designated 2014-15 as the Year of the Consecrated Life. This started the first Sunday of Advent and lasts until the feast of the presentation of Jesus in the temple, February 2 , 2016. We will have ample opportunities to comment on the diversity of religious communities and religious vows, or to an-swer your questions about the Josephites. Over the next ten months we will provide you with information; we will start this on January 11, 2015.

********** Year of Consecrated Life

Learn all about men religious on www.yearforconsecratedlife.org In our Archdiocese of Los Angeles, there are 500+ women religious, 80 religious brothers and 542 reli-gious priests (versus 501 diocesan priests). Next time: explaining the logos for YCL.

THANK YOU We are extremely grateful to all of our volunteers, and to our parishioners for your tremendous support of your parish in 2014 (and before that). Your support of the various ap-peals, the involvement in a number of ministries, and those who lead those ministries, means giving extra me and ener-gy. There are so many areas that require individual a en on and unfortunately, with over 60 ministries, it is not possible to thank you all. Also, I want to express special thanks to Shirley Gowdy and her decora ng commi ee for the beau ful job done on the Christmas decora ons—each year! (We have taken a photo of the sanctuary and are looking into making a Christmas card next year which we would make available for you to use to write to your friends). May God bless us all in 2015. Fr. Charles
