From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” When the pandemic began, I began hearing phrases like ‘the new normal’ or ‘things will never be the same’. Since I was one of the people who thought this would be a short-lived vi-rus, I didn’t pay much a en on to these phrases. Now, that I realize this is a longer las ng vi-rus, I reflect on the ‘new normal’ and some of its implica ons. Greater a en on to details and pa ence certainly seem necessary requirements to survive. In the process of reopening there are some wan ng everything back exactly as it was, as fast as possible. I do not believe that op on is immediately realis c. So, we must move to other possibili es or perhaps, new beginnings. In the parable, a person finds a treasure. The treasure is not iden fied but it was not realized before it was found, and once found changes everything, the new normal. The pandemic of course, but life itself, provides life-altering changes all the me. It is faith in the God who is the source of new possibili es that gives us strength and courage to walk through the darkest hour. During the pandemic I found a deep peace, a treasure, in God which has made me a more apprecia ve and hopefully pa ent person. I hope this me, though challenging, provides you, if it hasn’t already, a chance to find a treasure that provides for you ‘a new normal’ which you rejoice in. Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I lack. In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me; you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name. Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; Your rod and staff give me courage. You set a table before me as my enemies watch; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come. Have a great week! Fr. Mark Walter

Many of us have a “fear of missing out,” but we ac-tually experience freedom when we make commit-ments. There is a depth of joy that only occurs when we go all in. Using the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, Fr. Michael Rossmann will share how we can go about making commitments and experi-encing true freedom. Includes optional time for small-group sharing.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society

LOVE IN OUR WORK

In this Gospel, we find that the demand of daily liv-ing is to spend our live primarily searching for the kingdom of God. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist families with food and provide help with utility and rent bills, etc. Thank you!

When you go to the poor,

you encounter Jesus. —St. Vincent de Paul

PLEASE NOTE: We are always looking for new members or volunteers. Leave your name and number

offer You my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart,

JULY

Our Families: We pray that today’s families may be accompanied with love, respect and guidance.

Theology on Tap 2020 Series: Voices on the Periphery

To ensure everyone’s safety while still bringing everyone together, our summer Theology on Tap series will be held online rather than at individual parishes across the city. Local community organizers will help us focus on listen-ing to and amplifying the voices of those who may not have had the biggest platform in our society. Each session will be open to all individual young adults, young adult groups and parishes across the archdiocese.

7-8pm on this date Wednesday, July 29th: Turning a Curse into a Blessing Go online to pvm.archchicago.org/theologyontap/2020-series-voices-on-the-periphery
