St Liborius Parish VISION: We, the St Liborius parish Community, seek to support each other in growing together in faith and sharing this faith with the wider community. St Augustines (Myers Flat), St Stephens (Raywood) Communities Growing Together 3rd July, 2016 - FOURTEENTH Sunday in ordinary time, YEAR c Fr Junjun Corner 14th Sunday 2016 AD When I first entered the seminary in the year 2000, there were about 40 of us who passed the necessary stages of entry. Sixteen years later, only 10 more or less have become priests. This reminds me of an article about the reality of Gods calling in our seminary magazine before that says: Many are cold, few are frozen or as one priest commented recently Many are cold, few got up. It might just sound like a pun about the weather, but this actually happens to us as Christians. Being a Christian is not just a name. It is a mission. And our mission is to be Evangelisers. We are all called to be proclaimers of the Gospel. It is not just a work of the few (priests, nuns, religious, or pastoral associates) to get up and do this, while the rest can stay frozenor just dont get up .’ Yes, to proclaim the Gospel is indeed a big task that needs to be taken seriously. Jesus just outlined in the Gospel today ( Lk 10:1 - 12;17 - 20) , his expectations of an Evangeliser: be a lamb among wolves (i.e. humble and unassuming, gentle but firm on the ground) before the wolves around us (i.e. those things or even people who would attempt to make life difficult for us, or those who would try to suck the life out of us) ; to travel simply ( unencumbered with unnecessary baggage and preoccupations) ; to be content, accepting and grateful for whatever blessings that may come before us; to be a person of peace (i.e. be a peacemaker and a peace- builder); and lastly to preach about the Kingdom of God, not ourselves (i.e. to show others that God is the point of our being a Christian, our reason and meaning to live). The harvest is great, but the labourers are few”, says the Lord. Indeed, it is great harvest for me as I reflect on my 3 years of being the Assistant priest in this parish. It is even more of a challenge for me as I take on another appointment in the harvest of the Lord being the Parish priest of 3 parishes ( Kerang, Cohuna & Pyramid Hill ). Though I will still be here for another few weeks before I move on to my new assignment, (I m missing you already) , yet I cant help but be thankful to God for the blessings, the opportunities, the challenges He has given me while with you my dear parishioners of St Liborius, St Augustine and St Stephen. Thank you all for your friendship, for the care, for the love youve extended on to me. I pray you all the best with your new Parish Priest. And please remember me in your prayers. Please note, on the third Sunday of this month, if you can, we gather as a parish over shared luncheon so that I can say farewell to you all. May you all have a blessed week. Pope Francis Corner Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) by the Holy Father FRANCIS, to Bishops, Priests and Deacons, Consecrated Persons, Christian Married Couples, and all the Lay Faithful--- On Love in the Family Continued from last week 12. In speaking of marriage, Jesus refers us to yet another page of Genesis, which, in its second chapter, paints a splendid and detailed portrait of the couple. First, we see the man, who anxiously seeks a helper fit for him(vv. 18, 20), capable of alleviating the solitude which he feels amid the animals and the world around him. The original Hebrew suggests a direct encounter, face to face, eye to eye, in a kind of silent dialogue, for where love is concerned, silence is always more eloquent than words. It is an encounter with a face, a thou”, who reflects Gods own love and is mans best possession, a helper fit for him and a pillar of support ”, in the words of the biblical sage (Sir 36:24). Or again, as the woman of the Song of Solomon will sing in a magnificent profession of love and mutual self-bestowal: My beloved is mine and I am hisI am my beloveds and my beloved is mine(2:16; 6:3). 13. This encounter, which relieves mans solitude, gives rise to new birth and to the family. Significantly, Adam, who is also the man of every time and place, together with his wife, starts a new family. Jesus speaks of this by quoting the passage from Genesis: The man shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one(Mt 19:5; cf. Gen 2:24). The very word to be joinedor to cleave”, in the original Hebrew, bespeaks a profound harmony, a closeness both physical and interior, to such an extent that the word is used to describe our union with God: My soul clings to you(Ps 63:8). The marital union is thus evoked not only in its sexual and corporal dimension, but also in its voluntary self-giving in love. The result of this union is that the two become one flesh”, both physically and in the union of their hearts and lives, and, eventually, in a child, who will share not only genetically but also spiritually in the fleshof both parents. This reminds me of an article about the reality of God’s calling in our seminary magazine before that says: ‘Many are cold, few are frozen’ or as one priest commented recently ‘Many are cold, few got up.’ It might just sound like a pun about the weather, but this actually happens to us as Christians. Married Couples, and all the Lay Faithful--- On Love in the Family

Continued from last week 12. In speaking of marriage, Jesus refers us to yet another page of Genesis, which, in its second chapter, paints a splendid and detailed portrait of the couple. First, we see the man, who anxiously seeks “a helper fit for him” (vv. 18, 20), capable of alleviating the solitude which he feels amid the animals and the world around him. The original Hebrew suggests a direct encounter, face to face, eye to eye, in a kind of silent dialogue, for where love is concerned, silence is always more eloquent than words. It is an encounter with a face, a “thou”, who reflects God’s own love and is man’s “best possession, a helper fit for him and a pillar of support”, in the words of the biblical sage (Sir 36:24). Or again, as the woman of the Song of Solomon will sing in a magnificent profession of love and mutual self-bestowal: “My beloved is mine and I am his… I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” (2:16; 6:3). 13. This encounter, which relieves man’s solitude, gives rise to new birth and to the family. Significantly, Adam, who is also the man of every time and place, together with his wife, starts a new family. The result of this union is that the two “become one flesh”, both physically and in the union of their hearts and lives, and, eventually, in a child, who will share not only genetically but also spiritually in the “flesh” of both parents.

Felix Frankfurter was a famous justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Once when he was hospitalised he came to know a nurse by the name of Lucy. They had long chats during which he found out a lot about her. She was a devout Catholic. He was not a Catholic, and indeed had no time for any other denomination either. Yet he was very struck by Lucy. Never before had he met generosity or kindness such as she possessed. And he started to ask questions and to reflect, trying to discover the wellspring of her behaviour. What he discovered was this: the wellspring was no mystery. It was simply a practical application of her faith. He was truly amazed because he had never known anyone whose everyday life was based on a religion as much as that nurse’s was. Lucy may never have know the impact her lived faith had, but she made Jesus a palpable presence in that hospital. She supplied the hands Jesus needed there. Jesus needs the witness of people such as Lucy so that he can be the consoler he wants to be. A real relationship with Jesus will have an impact, even when the person who has that relationship does not mention Jesus. Of course, those who believe in Jesus and love him, will also, when it is appropriate, speak openly of Jesus. Fr Flor McCarthy SDB: New Sunday and Holy Day Liturgies, Year C, Page 245

ROSTERS

What a Life! A cowboy rode into town and stopped at a saloon for a drink.

Unfortunately, the locals had a habit of picking on strangers. So when he fin-ished his drink, he found his horse had been stolen. He went back into the

bar, handily flipped his gun into the air, caught it above his head and fired a shot into the ceiling.

“Which one of you sidewinders stole my horse?” he yelled. No one answered.

“Alright, I’m gonna have another beer, and if my hoss aint’ back outside by the time I finish, I’m gonna do what I done in Texas! And I don’t like to have to do what I done in Texas!”

Some of the locals shifted restlessly. The cowboy had another beer, walked outside, and his horse was back! He saddled up and started to ride out of

town. The bartender wandered out of the bar and asked, “Say partner, before you go…. What happened in Texas?”

The cowboy turned back and said “I had to walk home.” Www.emmitsburg.net/humor/archives/clean/clean.htm
