T oday we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent. The prophet Micah tells Israel that the smallest tribe will give birth to the Savior. In the gospel we once again hear the story of Mary and her cousin
Elizabeth. Both women experience miracles, Mary is pregnant with Jesus through the work of God and Elizabeth well beyond childbearing years is going to have a son. I think Elizabeth's response to Mary is important for us; “Blessed is she who trusted that the Lord’s words to her would be fulfilled. Do we have that same trust in God’s work and will in our lives? Tomorrow we begin our celebration of Christ-mas with our 4:00 PM mass. As always, the holiday celebrations will be crowded as family and friends get together to celebrate the Lord’s birth. This means seating will be at a premium, so don’t come at the normal time and hope your seat is still available. This year we will not be having a 10:00 PM Mass. On Tuesday, Christmas day we will have a 8:00AM and 10:00 AM Mass. We look forward to
seeing everyone and reconnecting with family and friends. St. Agnes School and St. Agnes/St. Kieran Religious education classes are now over until after the Christmas Holidays. We hope all our students, teachers, and families have a wonderful break. The School will begin classes in the new year on January 7, 2019. Religious Education begins on Tuesday January 8th at 6:30 PM. Finally, in the next few weeks do not be surprised if the St. Kieran Sign disappears from its spot on Hasted. As part of the Teach Who Christ Is program, we are replacing the sign with a LED digital sign. This was again one of the projects on the case study for the parish and the hope was that it would make the parish more visible and easier to put timely announcements on the sign. Right now, we have to drive out to the sign to change messages, while the new sign will have the technology to change the sign by computer from the parish office. The sign should be back in place by Easter.

Excerpts from Pope Benedict XVI's Spiritual Thoughts Series: "Christmas"
"Sign" God’s sign is his humility. God’s sign is that he makes himself small; he becomes a child; he lets us touch him and he asks for our love. How we would prefer a different sign, an imposing, irresistible sign of God’s power and greatness! But his sign sum-mons us to faith and love, and thus it gives us hope: this is what God is like. He has power, he is Good-ness itself. He invites us to become like him. Yes indeed, we become like God if we allow ourselves to be shaped by this sign; if we ourselves learn humility and hence true greatness; if we renounce violence and use only the weapons of truth and love. ---Homily at Mass for the Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, December 24, 2009
