THE INEXPRESSIBLE MYSTERYThe God of the universe is mysterious. Science has not been able to solve the mystery of how the universe came into being or explain exactly what continues to give it creative energy and masterful design. No religion asserts that it has found words to name fully the ineffable mystery of God, for no mat-ter what name we use, God always transcends our limited ability to understand. God is a mystery to be believed, not known. And yet, we Christians believe that our name for God best expresses that inexpressible mystery: God is the Most Holy Trinity of three persons united in a communion of love, pouring forth that creative, saving, sanctifying love into the world. Today’s scriptures celebrate the mystery of the Trinity and give us clues for living that mystery in our lives.
Page Two The Most Holy Trinity
NEXT SUNDAY’S READINGS
First Reading -- Never forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of slavery and fed you with manna in the desert (Deu-teronomy 8:2-3, 14b-16a).Psalm -- Praise the Lord, Jerusalem (Psalm 147).Second Reading -- Because the loaf of bread is one, we who partake of it, though we are many, are one body (1 Corinthians 10:16-17).Gospel -- Jesus said to the crowds, “I am the living bread; whoever eats this bread will live forever” (John 6:51-58).
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Adult: We live within the Trinity whenever we live in love. How does this mystery connectto your daily life?Child: How do you choose to live as a more loving person?

Ministry Spolight
SAVE THE DATE! Ladies, would you like to plan spending a weekend with Our Lord on the lovely grounds of the Sacred Heart Retreat Center in Alhambra. Enjoy the loving hospitality of the Carmelite Nuns on the weekend of Sep-tember 22 - 24, 2017. Retreat Master will be Rev. Dave Heney. Come join! “Streams of Grace and Mercy”. For information on room rates or reserva-tions call Mary 805 526-8006, Bea 805 523-2433 or Lilia 805 217 9090..
Altar SocietyIf you have a little over an hour to spare every 5th week, we can use your help. Our ministry is composed of five teams of women (including some husbands) working alternately, preparing our church for Mass. The more teams, the less often we will be needed to participate.Serve your parish and meet others in the process. Bring a friend or family member to help keep God’s house in order. Schedules are prepared for the entire year, so you will know exactly the days your team will serve.
Our Tasks • Care of the altar and sacristy • Washing the sacred vessels used at Mass • Replacing the votive candles • Laundering the altar linens • Refilling the holy water fonts
CONTACT: Marie Jendian (805) 498-5249
Altar ServersPurposeAltar serving invites the very young of our parish to become involved in parish life. They are taught valu-able lessons such as volunteering time, responsibility and what it means to be a part of a parish community. Altar servers receive a better understanding of the Mass and begin to develop an attitude that will help them be the future leaders of our parish.
DutiesIt is the duty of the Altar Server to be a part of the Mass by assisting the priest on the altar.

Children’s LiturgyChildren’s Liturgy of the Word is a worship experience geared to school-aged children in grades K-5. It mir-rors the worship experience of the larger community, with a style that is engaging and interactive. It is not religious education, but rather an extension of the Sunday Mass. All children in grades K-5 are invited. There are no sign-ups.
During the 9:30 Mass, the children are invited by Father to follow the Prayer Leader to the Children’s Liturgy Chapel, where they hear the Sunday readings in words they can understand. After talking together and/or participating in an activity encouraging them to apply God’s Word to their own lives, they rejoin the congregation in the Church following the Creed. Cel-ebrating the Liturgy of the Word in this way helps the children become comfortable with hearing and discussing Scripture, and familiarizes them with their Catholic liturgical heritage.
