TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — In a vision Isaiah is called to be a messenger for the Lord of hosts. Isaiah responds, “Send me!” (Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8) Psalm — In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord (Psalm 138). Second Reading — Paul reminds us of the gospel he preached through which we are saved, if we believe it (1 Corinthians 15:1-11 [3-8, 11]). Gospel — Jesus directs Simon to take his boat into deep water for a miraculous catch of fish. Simon and his partners leave all to follow Jesus (Luke 5:1-11).

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY! “Holy, holy, holy!” Ancient languages, like the Hebrew used in the scriptures, did not always have a way to express superlatives in one word. Isaiah could not say God was “holiest,” so he used the threefold repetition of the same word. This bit of scriptural minutiae about these “three little words” that we sing at every Mass serves as a reminder that answering God’s call has to be grounded in awareness of God’s holiness. In Isaiah and in the Gospel passage today, we hear accounts of the revelation of God’s power and might: the seraphim in the temple and the miraculous catch of fish. These are not wondrous revelations for their own sakes. They lead to a response in mission, Isaiah’s “Here I am, send me!” and the disciples’ leaving everything to follow Jesus. And so must our own “Holy, Holy, Holy!” lead us to Christ in the Eucharist every Sunday, and to a life following him day by day

AROUND THE DIOCESE

“Exploring the Liturgies of Holy Week: Palm Sunday through Easter” All are welcome to attend a presentation on “Exploring the Liturgies of Holy Week: Palm Sunday through Easter”, reflecting on the significance of our Holy Week Celebrations. Presented by Faye Drobnic, Diocesan Office of Worship, this presentation is insightful for anyone involved in church and liturgical min-istries, parish organizations, Bible study, Rosary groups, religion teachers, etc., and all who would like to learn more about the readings and rituals which take place during Holy Week. Workshops will be offered in each of the four Regions of the Diocese as follows: Central Region: Thursday, February 18, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Lafayette (Contact Mary Bergeron at 654-8682 or [email protected]); North Region: Thursday, February 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, Leon-ville (Contact Nikki Sonnier at 322-8738 or [email protected] ); West Re-gion: Thursday, March 10, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Crowley (Contact Janeth Harrington at 258-0073 or [email protected]); South Region: Wednesday, March 16, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Life, Franklin (Contact Dea-con Jerry Bourg at 578-2423 or [email protected]). No registration or fees are required. *Catechist Certification: Level V or VI: elective substitute, 3 credits, 2 hours (As a repeat presentation, the workshop may not be repeated for credits in the Catechist Certification Process. You may use the 2 hours if applicable.)

Novena to Mary “Undoer of Knots” - St. Pius X Catholic Church, (201 East Bayou Parkway) welcomes everyone to a Novena to Mary, Undoer of Knots, held in church, every Thursday at 6:00 p.m., beginning January 7 through March 10, 2016. While the “knots” novenas currently in circulation are meant to focus on the healing and intentions of the individual praying, this particular novena is intended to redirect our focus away from ourselves. As Pope Fran-cis continues to exhort all Catholics to stop looking to their own needs, but instead to go out into the streets and serve the poor, witness to those who disdain the faith, and in general repent of pride and self-centeredness, the need for a deep conversion of one’s mind set and perspective becomes ever more gravely apparent. We will be praying for struggling marriages; for those with addictions; for your pastor; for your local bishop; for the poor; for the unbelieving; for Christians outside the Catholic Church; for the Holy Father; and for your own needs. Please consider joining us on Thursday eve-nings. All are welcome.

Theresians “Lenten Day of Reflection” The Living Spirit of Acadiana Dis-trict of Theresians International is sponsoring a “Lenten Day of Reflection” on Saturday, February 13, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Elementary School Theater, 201 East Bayou Parkway, Lafayette. This year’s retreat, entitled “Rejoicing in God’s Mercy”, offers a day of prayer, song and reflection for women of faith. For complete information, please visit www.louisianatheresians.com.
