Happy New Year 2013 ! The new school year began on 2 January 2013 (Wed). SJPS welcomes everyone back to school with a new resolution for education. Our tag line is Education Beyond the Ordinary. For the secondary school, we have one Transition class with 35 students, three Form One classes with 35 students each, and three Form Two classes with 35 students each, with a total number of 245 students. We are renting the top floor of St Jude’s Kindergarten for our additional classes. For the primary school, we have two Primary One classes with 61 students, one Primary Two class with 30 students, and one Primary Three class with 21 students. We have 19 teachers in the secondary school, and 8 teachers and 3 teaching assistants in the primary school. Happy New Year 2013 !

The new school year began on 2 January 2013 (Wed). SJPS welcomes everyone back to school with a new resolution for education. Our tag line is Education Beyond the Ordinary.

For the secondary school, we have one Transition class with 35 students, three Form One classes with 35 students each, and three Form Two classes with 35 students each, with a total number of 245 students. We are renting the top floor of St Jude’s Kindergarten for our additional classes.

For the primary school, we have two Primary One classes with 61 students, one Primary Two class with 30 students, and one Primary Three class with 21 students.

We have 19 teachers in the secondary school, and 8 teachers and 3 teaching assistants in the primary school.

Some of our students are part of the SMK St Joseph’s School Band (SJS Band). On 14 December 2012, the SJS Band gave a beautiful performance to raise funds for its various activities. The concert, “SJS on Broadway” was held at Trinity Methodist Church, Jalan Ellis, featuring Australian theatre personalities, Jessica White on vocals and Paul White on piano. The conductors were Jonathan Fox who is the Principal Percussionist and Principal Timpanist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and Anthony Wong who is the Band Instructor of SJS Band. The Band Director who is a teacher at SMK St Joseph, Ms June Ling, is instrumental in organizing the whole event. Songs from Broadway musicals were played expertly by the band, like music from the Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Wizard of Oz, etc.

Congratulations to (2C) for his

laudable achievements in the 22nd Sarawak Wushu Championship 2012 Gold – Double Section Staff Middle School (Age 13-15), and Group Middle School Silver – KungFu Shan Middle School (Age 13-15) and Group B Standardized Routine Taiji-Quan Style 24, and Group B Standardized Routine Taiji-Jian Style 32.

Meet-the-Parents Session on 5 Jan 2013 (Sat) at 9.00am.

A big crowd of parents turned up for this important session where they were briefed on the vision and regulations of the school. Sr Odilia Ngui, SSFS, the Headmistress of the primary school, Fr Francis Lim, SJ, the Principal of the secondary school, and Mr Gerald Lee, the Director spoke. The school thanks the parents for their continued support towards the education of their children.

Congratulations to Germaine Cassandra George (1A) for emerging as runner-up in the Under 15 Girls Individual Category of the Chess Championship, Kejohanan Catur MSSM Bahagian Kuching 2013 held at Pustaka Negeri on 15 January.

A worthy salute is also accorded to Jeremiah Dudun Henry (2A), Brandon ak John (2A) and Sushil a/l Pubalan (2A) for their participation in the championship.

Pertandingan Kejohanan Tennis MSSM Bahagian Kuching 2013 This event was organized by SMK Padungan and SMK St Thomas, and was held at the courts of the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) from 14 – 16 January.

Kirsten Leong Kher Ting (2A) emerged as champion in P15TKB Singles and runner-up in P15TKB Doubles. Abigail Ong Hui Wen (1C) was a semi-finalist in P15TKB Singles and runner-up in P15TKB Doubles. Mark Leong Wei Yang (1B) was a semi-finalist in L15TKB Singles and runner-up in L15TKB Doubles.

Tay Chen Pang (2C) and Bong Yi Yang (2A) also took part in this championship.
