March, 2010

Dear Friends,

2009 was among the most important years in St. Joseph’s history. It represented the

intersection between a proud past marked by distinguished service and commitment, and

an exciting future full of promise to expand our reach and scope of care.

It was a year to celebrate milestones. We recognized our 75th Anniversary of caring for the

generations of Tampa families who have turned to us in their moments of need. And it was

the year to build the family of St. Joseph’s Hospitals with the new St. Joseph’s Hospital –

North now open in Lutz.

There is no more important reason why St. Joseph’s continually expands its position as

Tampa’s trusted heath care resource than the deep and loyal support of our neighbors.

Decade after decade the community has sought out St. Joseph’s special brand of care,

and generously supported us with their patronage, volunteerism and philanthropy.

With your generosity, and that of many others in the community who value the quality,

compassionate care for which our hospitals are known, St. Joseph’s Hospitals Foundation

generated $2.5 million in philanthropic support in 2009, and distributed approximately $1.2

million to help fund important patient care programs, services and technology.

Included among the projects and initiatives that received funding through the Foundation:

pediatric cancer research; the child obesity prevention program Kidz Bite Back; Flat screen

TV’s and entertainment systems for children; computer assisted detection software for

breast imaging; equipment for eye surgery; a speech and hearing center for children and

adults; nursing scholarships for team members, and H1N1 vaccinations for underserved

children and their caregivers.

Thank you for being a part of the St. Joseph’s family. Your friendship and support is vital

to our ability to meet the many, ever changing health care needs of our patients. Together

with many others, both past and present, you have fueled our progress and helped us

to become the St. Joseph’s we are today: St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Joseph’s Children’s

Hospital, St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital, and the new St. Joseph’s Hospital – North. And

in doing so, you have helped Tampa to become a better place for us all.

Sincerely,

Deborah A. Kotch, CFREPresident

Women’s Group Celebrates Inaugural YearLaunched in early 2009, the Philanthropic Women of St. Joseph’s has attracted 60 charter members, each making a financial commitment of between $1,000 annually to leadership levels of $25,000.

The members’ collective generosity funded its first grants distribution program, resulting in a $50,000 award to the Breast Center for computer aided detection software to act as a second set of eyes to detect suspicious areas on a mammogram or MRI.

Retired Doctors Go “Back to Med School”A number of distinguished retired physicians made up one of the 2009 classes attending the St. Joseph’s Mini Med School. The program gives “interns” a behind the scenes experience including special access to key doctors and administrators, hands on training with the latest technology, and a front row seat to life saving medical procedures.

IMAGINE! is what gala guest did at the 16th annual event, this year to benefit children’s health care. Honoree Tino Martinez, here with wife Marie, and over 600 guests enjoyed classic 60’s tunes from the ultimate Beatles tribute band, the Fab Four.

Christmas in JulyA steady stream of cars lined up for 12 hours to drop off what amounted to $60,000 in toys and contributions at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and at the Fox 13 studio during the annual Christmas in July event.

Foundation Members Enjoy Sense of BelongingSt. Joseph’s relies upon the generous support of the community to meet the many and changing health care needs of our patients. In appreciation for their philanthropic investment, the Foundation recognizes donors with membership in several societies.

President’s Circle: Members make an annual investment of $1,000 to $24,999. Specific chapters include the Philanthropic Women of St. Joseph’s, and the Mattison Society, reserved for physician donors.

Chairman’s Circle: Members are permanently recognized for their cumulative, lifetime gifts of $25,000 or more, and enjoy continuous access to member benefits such as Hospitality Services.

Sr. Marie Celeste Society: Named in admiration of St. Joseph’s past chief executive and in tribute to our Founders, this fellowship of benefactors is made up of those who have included St. Joseph’s Hospitals Foundation in their estate plan.

Hospitality Services

Members of our leadership recognition societies have access to the Foundation’s Hospitality Services program, an additional way we thank those whose gifts assist us in our efforts to care for the community. While all patients receive the same excellent health care, Hospitality Services offers personalized attention from the Foundation through concierge, non-medical courtesies. We can offer assistance during a hospital stay, when making an appointment, or visiting a friend.
