St Joseph’s History Competition
Create your own history source
Competition closes 10th July 2020
History is the study of past events, particularly in how humans have behaved and how they have lived their lives.
There are lots of ways we, as historians, know about the events of the past.
Historians can learn about what happened in the past by looking at and studying ‘sources’.
Sources are objects, texts or images which give information about past events.
There are many examples of history sources:
- pictures/drawings- photographs-video or audio clips- artefacts/objects- writings
Some people think that history is not important and that it is only about things which happened long ago.
Actually, history is so important and it is something which is always ‘happening’.
Many people think that the period of time we are living in now is one which will be studied a lot by historians of the future.
Your task is to create or present something which you think historians of the future might be able to use as a ‘source’ so that they can learn about life in the U.K. in 2020.
Two events which may be of particular interest to historians are the Coronavirus epidemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Some ideas for your entries
-A diary entry about your daily life(look at Anne Frank or Samuel Pepys for inspiration)
-A painting or art creation (NHS Clap, people queuing, people protesting)
-A PowerPoint presentation
-A montage of pictures or newspaper articles (you could create your own or find some online)
You can send your entries to your teacher on ClassDojos.
There will be prizes for the best entries in each key stage.
Good luck and have fun!
