Happy Easter to all! Today is the day that gives meaning to what we do every Sunday! Today gives meaning to our lives! St. Paul said: “If Christ is not raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins.” (1Cor. 15:17) Today those who have lost loved ones comfort one another with assurances of faith. On that first Easter Sunday the holy women went in sorrow to the tomb of their beloved Jesus, and two angels appeared and spoke: “Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised!” (Luke 24:5) Then the women went to tell
the apostles. The apostles ran and Peter was the first to enter the empty tomb. Then Peter, the first pope, began to “strengthen the faith of his brothers.” (Luke 22:32) Certainly someone told the joyful news to Mary, His mother, with comforting words similar to the Regina Caeli, which we pray instead of the Angelus during the Easter season: “Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. For He whom you merited to bear, alleluia. Has risen, as He said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.”

Parish Life
With these joyous words Christians have greeted one another on Easter Day for nearly two thousand years. And every Easter the words proclaim anew the faith and hope of every Christian in the Good News of God's profound love of mankind, a love that conquers death. This Easter greeting is still used today. In the Eastern Orthodox Churches this proclamation is made during the Easter service as each person kisses the Gospel book. Whenever Christians greet one another with these exultant phrases, we affirm the unity of believers throughout all times and ages until He comes again in glory. Every Christian family can establish the custom of exchanging this historic greeting, which is also a profession of faith, on Easter morning. It would set an appropriate tone of rejoicing for the entire day. Mass on Easter Day is the most splendid and exuberant celebration of the Church. For this is the Sunday of Sundays, the day of Resurrection of Christ, the center and foundation of our faith. As Saint Paul said, "If Christ be not risen, your faith is vain" (I Cor. 15:14, 17). Thus Easter is the pinnacle of all feasts of the Church year, which began with Advent, or the expectation of the coming of the Messiah, sent by God to provide the means for our Salvation. The culmination of the entire liturgy is the Easter feast. Families who attend Mass on Easter Day join millions of Christians all over the world - past and present - in joyous affirmation of our redemption through the love of Christ, our hope of salvation, and our faith in the resurrection from the dead and the life of the world to come.
Christ is Risen, Alleluia! He is Risen Indeed, Alleluia!

Everything we have done during the 40 days of Lent has led us to this day. It is time for rejoicing! It is appropriate to bring out the best of everything for the feast of Easter Day. Flowers, china — the works. “Alleluia” Egg -- an egg painted gold, or perhaps with Alleluia written on it. The child who finds the Alleluia egg is accorded a special honor such as getting to light the Christ Candle and say a prayer at mealtime, or being allowed to cut and serve the Easter cake or choosing the next family activity. Make an Easter lamb cake. You can buy a lamb-shaped cake mold to bake it in. Decorate it with white frosting sprinkled with flaked coconut to represent wool, and give it eyes of chocolate chips. Your children can help with the decorating. In addition to the excess of candy eggs, include in the Easter basket something a little more lasting, like the inexpensive little books of Bible stories for the younger children; perhaps a medal or picture or a biography of a child's patron saint; even a Christian CD would be welcomed by some older children.
You can get dozens of Easter holiday ideas from household magazines and the food section of newspapers. The
main difference in the celebration and festivities in a Christian household is that we know who we're celebrating
and why! For more ideas visit: www.wf-f.org/Easter Day.html

From our Holy Father in Rome AUDIENCE WITH THE COLLEGE OF CARDINALS
ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER POPE FRANCIS Friday, 15 March 2013
Dear Brother Cardinals, The period of the conclave has been a momentous time not only for the College of Cardinals, but also for all the faithful. In these days we have felt almost tangibly the affection and the solidarity of the universal Church, as well as the concern of so many people who, even if they do not share our faith,
look to the Church and the Holy See with respect and admiration. From every corner of the earth fervent prayers have been offered up by the Christian people for the new Pope, and my first encounter with the thronging crowd in Saint Peter’s Square was deeply moving. With that evocative image of the people gathered in joyful prayer still impressed on my memory, I want to express my sincere
thanks to the bishops, priests, consecrated persons, young people, families, and the elderly for their spiritual closeness, so touching and so deeply felt. I want to express my sincere and profound gratitude to all of you, my dear venerable brother Cardinals, for your ready cooperation in the task of leading the Church during the period of the Sede Vacante. I greet each one of you warmly, beginning with the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, whom I thank for his devoted words and his fervent good wishes addressed to me on behalf of all of you. I also thank Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Camerlengo of Holy Roman Church, for his attentive service during this transitional period, as well as our dear friend Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, who led us during the conclave: thank you very much! My thoughts turn with particular affection to the Cardinals who, on account of age or ill health, made their contribution and expressed their love for the Church by offering up their sufferings and their prayers. And I should tell you that the day before yesterday, Cardinal Mejia had a heart attack and was taken to the Pio XI Hospital. But they think his condition is stable, and he has sent us his greetings. Nor can I omit to thank all those who carried out various tasks in the preparation and the conduct of the conclave, providing the Cardinals with security and peace of mind in this period of such importance for the life of the Church. My thoughts turn with great affection and profound gratitude to my venerable Predecessor Benedict XVI, who enriched and invigorated the Church during the years of his Pontificate by his teaching, his goodness, his leadership, his faith, his humility and his meekness. All this remains as a spiritual patrimony for us all. The Petrine ministry, lived with total dedication, found in him a wise and humble exponent, his gaze always firmly on Christ, the risen Christ, present and alive in the Eucharist. We will always accompany him with fervent prayers, with constant remembrance, with undying and affectionate gratitude. We feel that Benedict XVI has kindled a flame deep within our hearts: a flame that will continue to burn because it will be fed by his prayers, which continue to sustain the Church on her spiritual and missionary path.
Profiles in Stewardship by Youth Ministry
Rudy Leon with Nathan Meet the newest member of our “Victory” Peer Ministry Team, Rudy Leon. He brings great enthusiasm for his faith to the Confirmation class. He is a freshman at Downey High School and plays violin in their orchestra. When told he was going to be featured in our profile, his response was, “Why? There are so many other people in our parish who serve more than me.” It is amazing to see such honest humility in a young person. Rudy is involved in many activities and ways to serve in our parish community. On top of working with youth, he has been a member of the Spanish choir for two years, an altar server for three years, and is participating in the Live Stations of the Cross for the first time this year. He has learned from his family how to be a good and faithful servant. His parents Maria and Ignacio, are involved in the Hispanic community and his mother is a member of the Parish Council. His younger sister, Citlalli, is in our Confirmation program. Rudy enjoys playing soccer, hanging out with friends and serving and praising the Lord. He desires to be the future President of the United States because “We need a Catholic President to end abortion and change the world, so pray for me, please.” We are so blessed to have Rudy on our “Victory” Team and at our parish because of his witness of hope in the future of the church.
