and his sacrifice. There are too many people who call themselves
Christians and who call themselves Catholics but who do not stand

and courageous sacrifice.
One way to follow the Lamb of God is to walk with me on the West
Coast Walk for life this Saturday, January 24 in San Francisco.
This Thursday is the 42nd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, and this
Saturday we invite everyone to join us in San Francisco for the
West Coast Walk for Life. Over 50,000 people will walk courageously
to remind the world of the 50 million innocent babies that have
been sacrificed by abortions in America.

Father Mark Wagner When John the
Baptist pointed to Jesus and said “Behold the Lamb of God,” two
of his disciples immediately started following the Lamb! Perhaps
they did not really know why they were following Jesus, or they
felt attracted because in Jewish culture a lamb represented purity,
innocence, suffering and sacrifice.
At a certain point Jesus turned around and saw them following
him and asked them: “What are you looking for?” All they could
think of to say in response was “Rabbi ( “ t e a c h e r ” ) , w h
e r e a r e y o u staying?” Jesus answered them by saying: “Come
and see.” That day they stayed with Jesus and Jesus spoke to them
about purity, innocence, suffering and sacrifice.
Each of us needs to think of an answer to Jesus’ question: “What
are

THE WORLD YOUTH DAY PILGRIMS THANK …...
all of you who purchased the handmade tamales that were sold the
weekend before Christmas. They also want to apologize to all of
those who attended the afternoon masses who did not have an
opportunity to purchase because of the generosity of those who did
at the earlier masses. In all, the pilgrims put in 182 man hours of
preparing and selling 161 dozen tamales. And those hours do not
include the extremely generous contribution of time, sweat,
utensils, and know-how of Dolores Ponce, who oversaw the production
and her friends, Maria Blandinos and Inocencia Oliveros, who also
helped out in the kitchen in spite of not having any connection
with the pilgrims. Thank you all for helping us as we work to
ultimately reach our financial goal of raising the $180,000 needed
to make it to Poland in 2016.

Catechesis on the Family
Dear Brothers and Sisters: In our continuing catechesis on the
family, and inspired by the Christmas image of Our Lady who
presents her Son to the world, we now reflect on the role of
mothers in society and in the Church.
For all our symbolic glorification of mothers, their important
contribution to the life of society, their daily sacrifices and
their aspirations are not always properly appreciated. Mothers are
an antidote to the spread of a certain self-centeredness, a decline
in openness, generosity and concern for others. In this sense,
motherhood is more than childbearing; it is a life choice,
entailing sacrifice, respect for life, and commitment to passing on
those human and religious values which are essential for a healthy
society.
Archbishop Oscar Romero spoke in this regard of a “martyrdom of
mothers”, whose sensitivity to all that threatens human life and
welfare is a source of enrichment for society and the Church. Today
I ask you to join me in thanking mothers everywhere for what they
are, and for all that they give to the Church and to our world.

Christmas week with their families and are taking a break.
Parish Stewardship — a way of life

Teresa Ruiz has served at St. Joseph’s
as a Lector since 2001. Before becoming active in the church,
Teresa remembers that her mother would always remind her of the
importance to attend Mass. Her sister too, also encouraged her to
serve but Teresa was afraid of the commitment and responsibility.
Teresa r e m e m b e r s t h a t s h e w a s a l s o encouraged by
the active people and good organization in St. Joseph’s, with so
many groups and ministries serving the church. Their personal
witness helped her discern what were the most important things in
her life and encouraged her to reorganize her priorities.
Teresa wanted to learn more about her Catholic Faith. She says
that many times we believe everything we hear from the media,
instead of making an effort to educate ourselves concerning our
faith.
Now, Teresa says, “If I do not attend Mass, I feel empty. I no
longer attend Mass out of obligation, I go to give thanks to God;
the Mass is my first priority. I give thanks to God for my life, my
health, my job and everything I have. I have learned that spiritual
things are more important than material things. If anyone is afraid
to serve, I encourage them to attend the meetings and trainings.

Catequesis
sobre la familia Queridos hermanos y hermanas: En esta
catequesis continuamos con
el tema de la familia, meditando la figura de la madre. Todos
debemos la vida y tantas otras cosas a nuestras madres, pero no
siempre éstas son escuchadas ni ayudadas en la vida cotidiana, al
contrario, a menudo son explotadas a causa de su
disponibilidad.
Ni siquiera la comunidad cristiana las valora convenientemente,
a pesar del eximio ejemplo de la Madre de Jesús. Algunas veces,
parece que no completa la vocación de la mujer esta maternidad y,
sin embargo, ser madre es una gran riqueza en la vida familiar. Las
madres, sin embargo, en el amor incondicional y oblativo por sus
hijos, son el antídoto al individualismo, las grandes enemigas de
la guerra.
Es lo que el Arzobispo Óscar Romero definió como “martirio
materno”: una entrega total, sin aspavientos, en el silencio, la
oración, el cumplimiento del deber. Ir dando la vida poco a poco
como hace una madre por su hijo. En los momentos difíciles no es
raro encontrar en ellas la ternura, la dedicación, la fuerza
moral.
Ellas son quienes frecuentemente dan los primeros rudimentos de
la fe, ésos que calan hondo; sin ellas no sólo se perderían fieles
sino buena parte del calor más profundo de la propia fe.

Padre Mark Wagner Cuando Juan el Bautista le señaló a
Jesús y dijo, “Este es el Cordero de Dios,” ¡dos de sus
discípulos empezaron a seguir al Cordero! Tal vez no sabían en
realidad por qué estaban siguiendo a Jesús. Tal vez sintieron
atraídos porque en la cultura judía un cordero representa la
pureza, la inocencia, el sufrimiento, y el sacrificio. A cierto
punto, Jesús volteó y los vio siguiéndole y preguntó: ¿Qué
quieren?” Tal vez se sorprendieron y estaban nerviosos y por lo
tanto no pudieron pensar cómo responder la pregunta de Jesús. La
única respuesta que pudieron pensar era “Rabí (o sea ‘maestro’),
¿dónde vives?” Jesús les respondió diciendo: “Vengan y lo verán.”
Ese día se quedaron con Jesús, y Él probablemente les habló de la
pureza, la inocencia, el sufrimiento, y el sacrificio.
Cada uno de nosotros necesita pensar
en una respuesta de la pregunta de Jesús: “¿Qué quieren?”
Decimos que creemos en Dios y que somos católicos. Pero,
necesitamos seguirle más cerca y quedarnos con él para poder
entender su pureza, su inocencia, su sufrimiento, y su sacrificio.
Hay demasiados que se llaman cristianos o católicos en particular,
pero no salen en defensa del mensaje del Evangelio, lo cual incluye
viviendo una vida de pureza y sacrificio valiente.

Hola estimados hermanos en Jesús, a partir de hoy por cuatro
semanas, quisiera compartirles unas bellas historias que nos
harán
sentir la necesidad de valorar más la presencia de Jesús
Eucaristía, y nos ayudara a enriquecer y centrar nuestra
espiritualidad cristiana en El presente en la Eucaristía la cual
recibimos y además podemos
contemplar. Los invito a aprovechar estos testimonios verídicos.

¡Visítanos! Este Domingo, 25 de Enero Visita La Escuela • Conoce

Con Estudiantes Recepción de 11:30am a 2pm
Padre Hamilton Suarez Fuimos al pequeño pueblo de Lu en el
norte de Italia, una localidad que cuenta con pocos miles de
habitantes y que se encuentra en una región rural a 90km al este de
Turín. Este pequeño pueblo hubiera quedado desconocido si en 1881
algunas madres de familia, no hubiera tomado una decisión que tuvo
“grandes repercusiones”.
Muchas de estas madres tenían en el corazón el deseo de ver a
uno de sus hijos ordenarse sacerdote o a una de sus hijas
comprometerse totalmente al servicio del Señor. Comenzaron pues a
reunirse todos los martes para la adoración del santísimo
sacramento, bajo la guía de su párroco y a rezar por las
vocaciones. Todos los primero domingos del mes recibían la comunión
con esta intención. Después de la misa todas las madres rezaban
para pedir vocaciones sacerdotales. Gracia a la oración llena de
confianza de estas madres y a la apertura de corazón de estos
padres, las familias vivían en un clima de paz, serenidad y
devoción alegre, que permitió a sus hijos
Adoración eucarística para la santificación de los sacerdotes y
la maternidad espiritual
discernir con mayor facilidad su llamada. Cuando el Señor dijo:
“Muchos son los
llamados, pero pocos los elegidos” (Mt. 22,14), hay que
comprenderlo de este modo: Muchos serán llamados, pero pocos
responderán. Nadie hubiera pensado que el Señor atendería tan
abundantemente la oración de estas madres.
De este pequeño pueblo surgieron 323 vocaciones a la vida
consagrada: 152 sacerdotes y religiosos y 171 religiosas. En
algunas familias había hasta tres y cuatro vocaciones. El ejemplo
más conocido es la familia Rinaldi. El Señor llamo a siete hijos de
esta familia.
La oración que las madres de familia recitaban era breve, simple
y profunda: “¡Señor haz que uno de mis hijos llegue a ser
sacerdote! Yo misma quiero vivir como buena cristiana y quiero
conducir a mis hijos hacia el bien para obtener la gracia de poder
ofrecerte, Señor un sacerdote santo.”
Se constante en la oración por las vocaciones!.

Teresa Ruiz ha servido como Proclamadora de la Palabra en St.
Joseph’s desde el 2001. Tiempo antes de animarse a ayudar Teresa
recuerda que su mamá siempre le recordaba la importancia de asistir
a misa. Su hermana también le ayudó mucho animándola a servir
porque Teresa le tenia miedo al compromiso y la
responsabilidad.
A Teresa le motivó también la gente activa y la buena
organización en St. Joseph’s con tantos grupos y ministerios para
servir. El testimonio de estas personas le ayudó a discernir cuales
eran las cosas más importantes en su vida y a reorganizar sus
prioridades.
Teresa también sentía el deseo de aprender más sobre su
religión. Ella dice que a veces creemos todo lo que e sc u c h am o
s de lo s m e di o s de comunicación en lugar de interesarnos en
aprender más sobre nuestra propia religión y, nos quedamos sin
asistir a misa. Ahora, Teresa dice, “El día que no voy a misa me
siento vacía. Yo ya no asisto a misa por obligación sino por
agradecimiento.
La misa es mi principal objetivo. Sobre todo, le agradezco a
Dios por mi vida, mi salud, mi trabajo y todo lo que tengo. Aprendí
a darle más importancia a lo espiritual que a los bienes
materiales. Si alguien se siente inseguro de servir, yo le diría
que asista a las reuniones y al entrenamiento.
Con la ayuda de los demás y la gracia de
Dios, todo es posible.”
