When a student is elected as a leader this position is a great honour and does require

representing St Joseph’s College at key community events. Thank you to Megan Winter and

Joe Gorman (Head Prefects) for representing our College at the washing of the feet

ceremony on Holy Thursday evening. At the conclusion of the school holidays, ANZAC Day

will be celebrated on Monday 25 April. A letter and permission form were recently given to

all student leaders in the Junior and Secondary Schools. Thank you to those families who

have returned them. If your son/daughter’s form has not been returned, please do so on

Monday.

At the beginning of Term Two, classes will commence for students in Kindergarten to Year

Twelve on Wednesday 27 April.

Parents/guardians who hold a Family Health Care Card or eligible Centrelink or Veterans

Affairs Pension Card can claim fee discounts by presenting the card at the College Office and

completing a simple form by Friday 8 April. Parents of students in Years Seven-Twelve who

hold these cards can also claim the Government Secondary Assistance Scheme rebate.

Wishing all in the St Joseph’s community a rewarding and safe week!

Mr Mark Browning - Principal

From the Head of Secondary

It was nice to welcome a refreshed College community back to school after the Easter break.

With only a short time to go this term, it is vital that students finish off strongly.

An important reminder to students and their guardians is that winter is upon us next term.

This means rain and football and College winter uniform. All students need to wear ties, and

boys must wear long grey College trousers with grey socks. Girls may wear College Navy

tights (must be worn on formal occasions) or white ankle socks (not sockettes or anklets).

Senior students in Years Ten to Twelve must wear their College blazer. All students may

wear a College jumper and are reminded that rain jackets are not to be worn in the

classroom.

Please note the Uniform Shop opening hours are Tuesdays, 8.15am - 9.30am and

Wednesdays, 2.15pm - 4.00pm during school term. Next week (Week 10) and Tuesday 26

April (Pupil Free Day) are the last dates to purchase uniform requirements before the start

of Term Two. The Uniform Shop is not open during the April school holidays.

Interim Reports

The Secondary Interim Reports have now been released and are accessible on SEQTA

Engage. You will have also received instructions by email and direqt message on booking

Parent Teacher interviews. If you have any problems accessing the reports or the interview

bookings, please contact the College and we will be happy to assist you. For your

convenience I have included a copy of the instructions for Parent Teacher bookings in this

newsletter.

Secondary Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent-Teacher interviews will be held for Years Seven to Twelve from 3.45pm to 7.00pm on

6 and 28 April.

Interviews will be of 10 minutes duration.

Using the online PTO system, you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best

from any internet-connected computer.

Please access the system as follows:

Go to the school’s home page: http://web.sjc-albany.wa.edu.au

Click the Parent Teacher Bookings link

Click “Obtain PIN/Password” and enter your email address. Your PIN will be emailed to

you. The email you receive will include a link that can be clicked on to log straight into

PTO, bypassing the login screen.

Full instructions are provided to you after log in. Please note the following points:

When you log on, the system displays only your own child/children. Bookings are made

for individual parents/guardians, not for couples. Couples can however log on to the

system simultaneously to coordinate bookings. If two parents/guardians wish to attend a

single interview time slot, one parent/guardian should make the booking then both can

attend.

You will only see time slots that are available at the time you are using the system. As

time slots are booked for teachers, those time slots are no longer displayed as available.

PTO prevents double-booking of teachers or parents/guardians.

When you have made all the bookings you require, you can download or email a report of

your bookings, in time order for printing. You can log in and change bookings any time up

to 4.00pm the day before interviews commence.

Other parents may be making bookings at the same time that you are using the system. It

is possible, though unlikely, that a time slot is displayed to you as available, but is then

booked by another parent shortly afterwards. If you then attempt to book this time slot it

will not be available and a message will be displayed to indicate this.

If you encounter any problems using PTO please contact the College office by phone on

08 98440 222, or by email to [email protected].

I am sure the system will be of benefit to students, parents and staff. Any feedback you may

wish to provide will be most welcome.

Chaplain’s Corner

By Fr Christian Saminal,

OSJ

Have you ever experienced asking

for forgiveness, and instead of

saying, “I forgive you”, he says

“peace be with you”?

This is what had happened to the

disciples of Jesus when they were

hiding from the Jews in a very

small room. Instead of scolding

them for abandoning him on the

cross, Jesus, in his gentleness and

compassion, greeted them with

peace. Furthermore, he told them

to “receive the Holy Spirit” – for

whoever they forgive, will be

forgiven; for whoever they retain,

will be retained. What an

unfathomable event in the lives of

the disciples.

Jesus came into their midst and

extended the two gifts they so

desperately needed; peace and

forgiveness. These very gifts

allowed them to share with others

the same love and forgiveness that

they received from the Christ.

I think this is the greatest way to

forgive one another – to know that

we have also been forgiven. To

know that we are sinners is an

important insight. More important

is the knowledge that we are

forgiven and accepted. The death

and resurrection of Jesus affirms

our dignity and worth. We can risk

accepting who we are. We can find

the courage to let peace take root

in our heart and history. All of this

is possible because we can trust

that God is true to His word. We

can surrender all that we are to

God.

break and REMEMBER – YOU MIGHT BE ON HOLIDAYS, BUT YOUR TOOTH BRUSH NEVER

IS!!!

I share with you the thoughts of

Stanley Hauerwas: “…In a sense to

be a ‘forgiven people’ makes us

lose control. To be forgiven means

that I must face the fact that my

life actually lies in the hands of

others. I must learn to trust them

as I have learned to trust God…

When we exist as a forgiven people

we are able to be at peace with our

histories…We no longer need to

deny our past, or tell ourselves

false stories, as now we can accept

what we have been without the

knowledge of our sin destroying

us.”
