The Epiphany of the Lord Picture a nativity scene in your mind’s eye. The scene likely includes figures arriving on camels, some

elaborately dressed, with jeweled boxes containing precious gifts. These magi arrived from distant lands to pay homage to the Christ Child. We know little about the magi, but we do know that these visitors were not Jews. They represent people of all nations who will be drawn to the Lord. “Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance.” The Good News of Jesus cannot be limited to one people; all share in the promise of God’s mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ.

STEWARDS �F G�D’S GRACE

Saint Paul speaks of the “stewardship of God’s grace” to which he was

called. Like Saint Paul, each of us is to be a steward of God’s grace. A steward is one who is entrusted with something that belongs to another. The steward bears responsibility for what is entrusted to him or her. Saint Paul understands that his encounter with the Lord and his faith in Jesus Christ carry with them a sacred responsibility, to bring the news of salvation to all. We too have been blessed with much, including the gift of faith, and are called to be good stew-ards of all with which we have been entrusted. We do this by nurturing a faithful and faith-filled heart,

responding to God’s grace through the attitudes and actions that make up our daily lives. We do this as well by sharing our faith and the impact of faith with others, so that they may be drawn to our Lord. This is a sacred responsibility, a blessing, a privilege.

BEARING GIFTS

The magi brought gifts to the baby Jesus. What gifts do you bring to the

Lord? You might have the gift of patience or understanding and bring this gift in your interactions with others. You might have a talent for bringing new ideas and creative insights into situations at home, work, parish, or your city. You might have a gift for helping people to work together for a great cause or

purpose. All of these gifts have been given to you by God, to be used for God’s purposes, for God’s greater glory. All of these are glimpses of God’s grace, and like Saint Paul, you are called to be a good steward of them, as a sign of Christ’s life within you. You bring your gifts to the Lord by using them well, sharing them generously and responsibly in caring for others and for all of

creation.

La Epifanía del Señor

Se puede entender la Epifanía como una extensión de la Natividad del Señor que celebramos el 25 de

diciembre. En la Navidad celebramos la venida de Jesús como el rey y Mesías tan esperado por el pueblo judío, y en la Epifanía celebramos la revelación de Jesús como el Salvador y la Luz de las naciones; es decir, de judíos, gentiles y de todos los pueblos. La estrella brilla con tanto fulgor que atrae a los magos que vienen de países distantes para adorar a Jesús. No son judíos, y sin embargo se ven atraídos al que es la Luz del Mundo. La carta a los efesios revela que la Luz del Mundo era tanto para gentiles como para judíos, pues Cristo reúne a todos los pueblos en la luz de su amor. La lectura de Isaías también describe a diversos pueblos que vienen, pero esta vez les atrae la luz que emana del pueblo de Dios.

C�RRESP�NSABLES DE LA GRACIA DE DI�S

San Pablo habla de la “corresponsabilidad de la gracia de Dios” a la cual él fue llamado. Como san Pablo, cada uno de nosotros debe ser un corresponsable de la gracia de Dios. Una persona corresponsable es aquella a la que se le confía con algo que le pertenece a otra persona. La persona corresponsable asume la responsabilidad por aquello que se le confía. San Pablo entiende que su encuentro con el Señor y su fe en Jesucristo conllevan una responsabilidad sagrada, para llevar la Buena Nueva de la salvación a todas las personas. Nosotros también fuimos bendecidos con mucho, incluyendo el don de la fe, y estamos llamados a ser buenos corresponsables de todo aquello que se nos fue confiado. Lo hacemos al alimentar un corazón fiel y con fe, respondiendo a la gracia de Dios por medio de las actitudes y acciones que hay en nuestra vida diaria. También lo hacemos al compartir nuestra fe y el impacto de la fe con los de-más, para que ellos puedan acercarse a nuestros Señor. Esta es una responsabilidad sagrada, una bendición y un privilegio.

TRAYEND� REGAL�S Los magos llevaron regalos al niño Dios. ¿Qué regalos llevas tú al Señor? Quizá tienes el don de la

paciencia o comprensión y llevar este don en la forma como te relacionas con los demás. Quizá tienes un talento para ofrecer ideas nuevas e intuiciones creativas para tu hogar, trabajo, parroquia o tu ciudad. Quizá tienes un don para ayudar a las personas a que trabajan juntas por una causa o propósito importantes. Todos estos dones te fueron entregados por Dios para usarse para los propósitos de Dios, para su mayor gloria.

Todos estos son destellos de la gracia de Dios y, como san Pablo, tú estás

llamado para ser un buen corresponsable con ellos, como un signo de la vida de Cristo dentro de ti. Tú llevas tus talentos al Señor al darle buenos usos, compar-tiéndolos generosa y responsablemente cuidando de los demás y a toda la

N S ... Cóż piękniejszego niż słowa Jana, pełne głębi i poezji? Warto je jeszcze raz powtórzyć, wolno smakując ich głębię i piękno: "Na początku było Słowo, a Słowo było u Boga, To Słowo, które Bóg wypowiadał stwarzając wszechświat, w którym sam kiedyś miał się narodzić. I Bogiem było Słowo. Ono było na początku u Boga. Wszystko przez Nie się stało, a bez Niego nic się nie stało, co się stało. Wszystko od Niego bierze swój początek i wszystko w nim ma zakończenie. Odwieczne Słowo Boże, które jest Bogiem, Synem Bożym, najdoskonalszym obrazem Ojca. W Nim było Życie, a Życie było światłością ludzi, a światłość w ciemności świeci i ciemność jej nie ogarnęła (...) W Nim jest pełnia Życia, Życie samo i światłość i Prawda i Radość to Ono, Nieogarnione Słowo Boga. A Słowo stało się ciałem i zamieszkało wśród ludzi (...)"

Tylko, że niestety "Przyszło do swoich, a swoi Go nie przyjęli ..." Jakże smutne to i prawdziwe ... jakże prawdziwe i bolesne ... swoi GO nie przyjęli !!!! Ja także należę do tych, którzy Go nie przyjęli ... Bo żyję moim prywatnym życiem ... Bo nawet to Słowo, Które staje się Ciałem na ołtarzu przyjmuje tylko od wielkiego dzwonu. Nadal jest mi obcy i daleki i Bóg w stajence i Bóg w moim bliźnim ... "Wielokrotnie i na różne sposoby przemawia Bóg do człowieka ..." I co z tego, skoro tylu ludzi zatyka sobie uszy? Przemawia do nas również przez swoje Słowo Przedwieczne, przez swojego Syna ... tylko czy my Go słuchamy? czy my rozumiemy to Słowo? C — C M

Czym jako chrześcijanie winniśmy się różnić w życiu, tak na co dzień, od innych? Zdziwicie się, gdy powiem, że powinniśmy być mądrzejsi. Nasze spojrzenie na świat, na trudne sprawy, na życie winno być pełniejsze, doskonalsze, mądrzejsze.

Tak być powinno. W życiu należy kierować się nie mądrością ludzką, ale Bożą. Nie przesadzę, gdy powiem, że dzieje chrześcijanina, dzieje każdego z nas, to historia współpracy ludzkiej słabości z Bożą mądrością. O tym mówią nam dzisiejsze czytania.

Słowa prologu św. Jana można odczytać i tak: „Na początku była Mądrość, a Mądrość była u Boga i Bogiem była Mądrość. Wszystko przez nią się stało, bez niej nic się nie stało /.../. Mądrość zamieszkała wśród ludzi, do swoich przyszła, a swoi jej nie przyjęli”.

Myślę, że nikogo nie obrażę, gdy posłużę się porównaniem. Pustą, zarozumiałą kobietę pokochał bardzo mądry, taktowny mężczyzna. Zawarli ślub. Mąż zamieszkał z żoną przekonany, że potrafi kierować ich wspólnym życiem, aż do pełnego szczęścia. Był pewny, że żona go zrozumie, że uzna jego racje... Kobieta chciała jednak rządzić sama. Mąż musiał siedzieć cicho. Ustępował przez długi czas sądząc, że się opamięta, że dostrzeże pomyłkę. Upominał, zwracał uwagę na bezsensowność takiego postępowania, aż w końcu usłyszał: „Jak ci się nie podoba, to sobie idź!” I poszedł. Żona go nie zrozumiała. Ciasna głowa odrzuciła mądrość.

Podobnie było z nami. Bóg zamieszkał w nas, ale powiedzmy sobie szczerze, czy chcieliśmy, by On był z nami? Czy chcieliśmy otworzyć się na Jego mądrość? Jak często liczyliśmy się z Jego wolą? Ileż to razy stawialiśmy na swoim?

Dlaczego dziś, w dwudziestym wieku, odważam się mówić do was o Ewangelii? Dlatego, bo ufam, że każdy chce być mądry, że każdy jest gotów przyjąć do domu mądrego Przyjaciela. Jak planując małżeństwo czekaliście na zamieszkanie razem ze współmałżonkiem wiedząc, że ubogaci was swoją miłością, tak trzeba, byście przyjęli na mieszkanie Bożą Mądrość.

Gdy ona wami pokieruje, wygracie życie, odkryjecie wielkie szczęście płynące z kontaktu z kochającą Mądrością. Jej oczami zobaczycie świat, innych ludzi, siebie... Wówczas wszystko nabierze zupełnie nowej wartości. (Ks. Edward Staniek)
